Great food (blistered tomatillos were ... interesting-my date really liked them, me not as much), and great professional service! Burger was phenomenal and beef stroganoff exceptional.

They were very responsive when we were forced to delay our reservation by an hour on a Saturday night at the last minute. They still saved the window table we had asked for!

Great food! Service was terrific! Only gets low marks because it was so loud you had to shout at your dinner companions. Even the waiter commented on how loud it was. I will go back, but at an off peak time when it may be quieter. They are celebrating their 20th year in business. Please do something about the noise!

We get out very seldom, but really enjoy the ambience of the Eastern Star. It is especially rewarding to see how much our out-of-town guests enjoy the place, too.

I eat here about once a year, and everytime I go, though I want to love it, I am simply not wowed. We had the family style meal and it was unremarkable and somewhat bland.

Went there for a Sunday evening meal with a friend. We chose to sit outside since the weather was good. The waitress seemed a little slow with service. However it didn't detract from the experience too much. We had to wait a little too long to give our order. The food arrived quickly and was quite tasty. Definitely recommend.

I went for restaurant week with my fiance, but I would definitely go back for another dinner or brunch. The food was great, and they have a great bar/drink menu as well. There is a great outdoor patio area as well.

I'm a native Alexandrian (grew up in the Del Ray area). It's a great feeling to enjoy such a lovely meal in my hometown neighborhood.

A charming spot that I should have taken advantage of long before now. It was a little noisy at first but the noise calmed down. We took our time with drinks and dinner and the waiter was super polite and accommodating.

Unbelievably loud. Lots of hard surfaces that amplify the sound of the bar in the next room. It's a pity because the food was very good. The dining room was almost empty, but the bar was so loud my husband and I had to shout to hear each other.

What an outstanding experience! I came into town to visit my son and we chose this restaurant based on its reputation. We were not disappointed! the food was so fresh and full of flavor...it knocked our socks off! I am a die-hard foodie and I enjoyed every single dish from appetizer to entrée to dessert, one of the best meals I have had in a long time! thank you so much Chef Keith for a unique, fresh and DELICIOUS meal!!!

Very good restaurant with delicious, though limited, gluten free options. Dropping cornbread off at the table probably was unnecessary since we couldn't eat it but the food was very good.

The beet salad was very good. The cauliflower with Korean Barbeque sauce was very creative, but the sauce was very hot and there was no warning that it would be a hot dish. Also, it was so noisy that my friends and I had a hard time hearing each other.

Diners in group had the salmon (w/most amazing Brussels sprouts), pork chop and duck confit - all delicious! Wine was good, too - amazing selection. It's a neighborhood spot so give yourself extra time for parking.

We were there for friday night meal with business friends. I had been there several times but a few years ago where I was enamored of the interesting menu, tastes and variety...place was surprusingly empty, only 3 inside tables had guests at 7 pm.staff was friendly and attentive.
Menu is quite limited but more uninspired. Not much of the formerr imagination or special chef combinations which made a meal here interesting.
We had the shrimp fritters, very good. Also the hummus which was average.
We shared the chicken fricasse, which was heavy on garlic but otherwise greasy, and had a minimal amount of anything except the chicken and overdone biscuits and it was $55 entre. I expected pricey but not uninspired. No longer recommend as a special experience.

I thought that the menu did not seem like a spring menu when I first looked at it. However, the salmon with turnips and brussels sprouts was absolutely delicious. My friend had a cocktail which was also wonderful. The chocolate semifreddo that we shared for dessert was terrific. This was my first trip back to Evening Star Cafe in quite a while, and I was very happy that I had chosen this place for the birthday celebration. I will be back!!

The Evening Star doesn't disappoint. We hadn't been there in awhile but our son was visiting from Saudi Arabia (work assignment) and we wanted some place comfortable and unpretentious and Evening Star fit the bill. General Manager Neel Lassetter does an outstanding job of making everyone feel welcome and our server, Ryan, was outstanding. He realized that we had some catching up to do and needed a few extra minutes to focus on the menu. No rush. He made helpful appetizer (starter) and dessert suggestions and was attentive to empty glasses but not obsequious. It was a lovely evening and reminded us that we should return more often for a date night -- and we will.

I've been to Evening Star several times, and I have enjoyed each visit. I love the seasonal menu and getting to try a new dish each visit, even though sometimes I wish I could have that fav dish just once more! The decor is cute, and reservations are easy to make. Even if you have to wait, the bar in the back is a great place to grab a pre-dinner drink. This is a great place for a romantic dinner out, something a little special!

My wife and I went to Evening Star for our anniversary during restaurant week (we didn't realize it was restaurant week until we arrived). It was my first time eating there and my wife's first time in many years. The food was top-notch, from starters through dessert. Our waitress was professional, friendly, and made several menu suggestions that helpful. To top it all off, the manager brought us over complimentary glasses of champagne and a little gift to help us celebrate! We were touched that he'd go out of his way for us like that.

We went on a Saturday night and the atmosphere was lively and noisy, but not too loud for normal conversation. We both would go back and recommend it to others.

Nice experience overall. The oysters were delicious and the desserts. My main plate of lamb was very tasty but the hake fish my friend ordered was really uninspiring. Good service overall though glass of wine ordered was not very generous

I've never had such bad service. The food was excellent, but it took 20 minutes for someone to come take our drink order (after we asked the host). It was another 20 minutes for a food order then 40 minutes to get the food. 45 minute before our main course came. Unbelievable. We have lived in Alexandria for about 20 years and haven't been back to Evening Star for about 6 because it is so loud. I don't think we will ever go back again. Such a disappointment.

We came for the Valentines Day Dinner and it was fabulous. We absolutely loved it. Only suggestion is to request a seat away from the door as it gets really cold near the front of the restaurant.
