Classic bistro items such as raw oysters, croque madame, smoked salmon, and steak frites--each of them in the most flavorful form you've ever seen or tasted. Daily specials like shrimp etouffee, gumbo ya-ya, and fried chicken offer glimpses into the Chef's French and Creole repertoire.
An extensive array of wines by the glass is anchored by our draft wine system, which serves perfect pours on exclusive wines seldom offered except by the bottle. Our local beers and liquors will get your toe tapping at the comfortable, chic bar.
The jewel of Evangeline is the trellised outdoor patio, with heaters and fans for outdoor dining in all but the most forbidding weather. Dappled sunlight and lively music make it a Napa Valley idyll worth the drive up-valley. Free parking abounds across the street.
Dinner: Monday - Sunday: 5:30pm - 9:00pm
We also host larger groups for sit-down meals, cocktail parties, winery release parties, rehearsal dinners, wedding receptions, and Mardi Gras balls. Please call for more information.
Food was very tasty, but the service was rather slow (it took almost 8 min before someone even noticed we were there and it was not at all busy) and the building was very cold.
We are local Calistogans and Evangeline is one of our "go-to" spots for an always excellent food and wine experience. We love our favorite server, Roxanne. We are also excited to see what the new chef has in store for the future!
We loved our dinner at Evangeline. The food was served quickly and our waitress was a delight. I would highly recommend Evangeline.
The menu has changed and from the last time I dined there last year, they had fewer vegetarian options. I would give them 5 stars all around, but, when I called to ask, the person answering the phone seemed put out that I was asking. It turned out to be one of the best little gem salads and wild mushroom pastas I have had. The food was phenomenal. However, the dessert disappointing considering the quality of the entrees and salads. Overall, a great meal.
Nice food but small portions and not value for money.
We enjoyed a light dinner prior to the Tractor Parade. We were seated promptly and quite cozy at our little table. Our server was wonderful. We have eaten here many, many times and depend on good service and food. The food, while good, was not as outstanding as in times past. Very surprised that the mussels had no broth, for example. Hoping this was an anomaly due to the busy night.
We went on a busy night (the tractor parade) so maybe their service was not what it usually is. Some of our party really enjoyed their dishes; I was less impressed. We were seated outside in the plastic enclosed area which would be fine except that the noise level made it impossible to speak or hear. Also it was excessively warm - one in our party left early just to stand outside. And the bathroom situation at this restaurant continues to be inadequate. All in all an okay experience but we will probably try another restaurant for our next night in Calistoga.
Excellent service (Roxanne) and food. The outside patio was super cozy!
A neighborhood gem you cant stop going
Great food. A little different from your average Northern California flair. The French twist was awesome. Great wine selection as well.
Great meal while visiting wine county. Calistoga is more laid back and less crowded then Napa. This was a perfect stop for a quit dinner. God food. Good service. Will definitely be back.
The two doors really bring in a lot of cold air. Sound quality is poor... you hear every crashing bottle at the bar. And for some reason there were a lot of them. Staff is nice, but inconsistent. Food was very good.
Dined here on a Saturday evening in November with the skies filled with smoke from forest fires. The patio was nice, but probably much nicer in the summer open to the stars. Food was excellent--Creole themed, so pause the diet. I had the gumbo and my wife had the Evangeline burger that she described as one of the best she's ever had. Service attentive but not overpowering, good advice on the food. Will definitely return when in Calistoga.
This little gem of a restaurant should have been more crowded on a Sunday evening than it was, because the food is that good. Delicate briny oysters, fresh cheeses from CA and beyond-served with local honeycomb honey, crispy roast chicken with andouille, baby potatoes, red bell pepper-like Chicken Murphy but more subtle, baby gem salad with perfect creamy vinaigrette and tiny radishes and carrots-these just some of the classic with a twist French dishes we enjoyed.
There’s a small cocktail menu, a good selection of local beers, and a moderately priced wine list featuring local CA and some French wines; our server was knowledgeable about wine and food pairings.
Decor is simple and comfortable bistro style, nothing too high design and distracting.
Dine here-you won’t be disappointed.
We had an 8:45 reservation for our anniversary. Shortly after we were seated the waiter informed us that the kitchen was closing soon and that we needed to order. From then on we felt rushed through our entire meal, from appetizers to entrees through desert.
The restaurant was lovely, and the food was great. The service, however, was pushy and made us uncomfortable. If the kitchen closes at 9 maybe they shouldn't take dinner reservations at 8:45?
The staff was more interested in getting us in and out even though not super busy. The oysters had quite a bit of shell fragments and other than "I told the chef" not much concern. It could have been a disaster.
We very much enjoyed a birthday dinner, sitting outside on a quiet Sunday evening. Nice service, and lovely, interesting food.
Chose this restaurant based on reviews, ambiance, location, menu and price range. Arrived at reservation time (6:15) and thought odd that the place was empty. Then we discovered the beautiful outdoor courtyard! Great for warm weather (heat lamps over most tables) but inside just as cute during cold weather. Service was excellent, food was also very good (flat iron was excellent, salmon good, salad that came with salmon excellent, fried pickles and baguette and sea salt ice cream). Waiter overheard us toasting our daughter happy birthday and added candle and chocolate birthday sign to desert- very nice. Only downside was cost of wine...maybe taking advantage of tourists visiting wine country, but $44 for a bottle of Mumms sparkling wine when it's made in Napa is ridiculous. Also beware- Open Table says price on this place under $31. Our tab for three (including the Mumms) was well over $200
The menu is unique, but there's something for everyone. We usually order the specials, which never disappoint. The Shrimp Étouffée is one of my favorites! This time my husband had the wagyu steak - it was cooked to perfection and worth every penny.
Really enjoyed our meal! Very u inquest ... past with incredible mushrooms! Definitely recommend
Great place, food is awesome. However timing was a bit off and there was an ordor of sewage at the end which was very disappointing.
We chose this restaurant mainly because our granddaughter's name is Evangeline! Like our granddaughter, it did not disappoint. The hostess and waiter were polite and helpful. Each bite of food was a taste delight. I loved the squash soup, perfect portion and garnishment. The salmon was crispy outside, just moist enough inside. The salad that accompanied it was a work of art! My husband's roast chicken was tender and flavorful. I would definitely recommend this anyone who wants a meal just a little more adventurous but not overly expensive or too overdone.
Brunch was fine..... nothing outstanding, but I’m jaded!
Excellent dinner, salmon was perfect, salad light ! Service excellent fast!
We sat outside and the ambiance was wonderful. Had a great meal, and great wine. The seafood gumbo was fantastic, and not too filling. Just enjoyed the courtyard seating. A wonderful evening!
My daughter and I were visiting Calistoga and went here for dinner. Charming spot, excellent food and service. Loved the outdoor patio and indoor bar too. Would highly recommend.
We were dining at Evangeline when all of Calistoga had its power shut off. So we didn’t get to enjoy a full meal as we’d planned, but the staff was very gracious and apologetic about the situation. The appetizers we had were delicious, and we hope to return!
Lovely outdoor patio area and we were able to have our dogs join us which was nice. Hostess was unresponsive, acted almost as though she didn’t speak English. Waiter was very nice, but when I ordered a “liter” of a house “draft” wine for $65 he brought a little more than a half liter telling me that their carafes are wine bottle sized, not by the liter. What a rip off! He poured a bit more when I told him that I did order a liter, I’ll give some credit for that. Prices were over the top for what should be a casual, Cajun style place. Steak dinner of the night was $54! Needless to say we didn’t order that. The seafood gumbo came to the table cold, had to send back to reheat. Sauce was so strong couldn’t taste the fish. Steak frites was ok, not a thin piece of delicious meat but a thick piece that was ok but not super flavorful. Salad was really good but all in all can’t say we’ll return. Too many excellent restaurants in the area to justify a repeat.
Had a girls night out while exploring the valley. The Ambiance was amazing! We sat outside in like a garden area with greenery all around and twinkling lights, it was magical! The food was great, not as many options as originally thought, drinks were amazing.
Good creative menu. Love the relaxed atmosphere and French/New Orleans flare.
Worst meal I have had in Calistoga in a long time. We had 5:30 reservation for Monday 10/8. They no longer have a Dailey special. I was looking forward to Sunday gumbo special. So I ordered the gumbo $32. It was terrible. Barely warm, did not taste like it was reaux based. I shrimp, 2 pieces of sausage and grilled dried out fish on top. Worst gumbo ever. Husband has corn soup, cold but he liked it. Also had the pasta that was okay, very small serving. We had eaten here a few years ago and did not have a good experience. Thought since the restaurant was still open we would try it again. So disappointed, big waste of money.
Was in Calistoga for a weekend getaway with my girlfriend. Everything was amazing, the ambiance, the service, the food. Highly recommend.
Charming little restaurant in Calistoga. Food and service was good and made for a pleasant early Saturday lunch.
Well thought out menu; perfectly seasoned dishes; excellent meal.
We were delighted with this fabulous find in the heart of still-unspoiled Calistoga. Go.
Excellent food, with imaginative combinations. Loved the burrata with fresh figs. Service was excellent: professional yet friendly. Desserts could have been a little more interesting.
Attentive but unobtrusive service. Delicious food. Outdoor tented area cozy even on a coolish evening.
Very few options for lunch on a Sunday. Although we were the only ones there, our waiter was nowhere to be seen much of the time. And to make things even nicer, they didn't acknowledge the visit with Open Table until we wrote back to Open Table.
Charming. first time and easy access with the stroller. It would be nice if there was a changing table in the roomy restroom. The baby had nowhere to change the diaper.
