Euphemia Haye - Longboat Key, FL Ratings and Reviews
Euphemia Haye is a three-in-one restaurant. Downstairs is elegant dining: beautifully prepared and often strikingly tasteful food, professional service with personality, excellent wine list, expense commensurate with the dining experience. Tables and booths are fairly closed-packed but did not intrude on our privacy; noise level was moderate, not at all bothersome. Upstairs at Euphemia are a piano bar and light-dining /spectacular cake-and-pie dessert small restaurant, both of which are constantly busy and energetic-feeling. The fancy downstairs restaurant offers reservations; the upstairs light restaurant-and-dessert space does not. We've enjoyed returning to both.
Not our best Euphemia Haye experience. We ordered their famous Caesar salad which was definitely "off" tonight, the fried green tomatoes, and shared the grouper special which they split for us (we did not ask them to) and charged us an additional $11.50 making it a $48 entree with no sides included. We were the first reservation at 6 pm and the Brussel sprouts were mushy when they were served to us 45 minutes later. They tasted to us like they'd been reheated from the night before. We feel like short cuts were taken this evening and we were disappointed overall with our dinner experience. On a positive note, we enjoyed our coffee and dessert in the Loft. We just wish dinner was memorable for the right reasons, especially since it was our anniversary.
A little concerned after we got off to a rocky start as the bar-tender upstairs was unbelievably rude and we couldn't even order a drink - my recommendation would be to NOT go early for drink. HOWEVER, once we were seated downstairs for dinner everything was above and beyond. David our waiter was wonderful - professional, very knowledgeable about menu and wine and attentive, he set the tone for our delightful evening. We started with the duck liver with Asian flare - the wasabi seaweed salad was a perfect pairing to the delicate luck livers. We also had the fried green tomato appetizer which was light and crispy. The Caesar salad hand made by Billy was wonderful and served with chilled forks - nice touch! 2 in our dinner party had the signature peppered steak and both claim is was quite possibly the best steak they had EVER eaten - it was without fault and perfectly cooked and presented - the brandy sauce (prepared by Billy just prior to serving the steak) was so good! One of us had the duck - another signature dish served with an apricot almond sauce this evening and very good. The stuffing melted in your mouth and the duck was cooked perfectly with a nice crispy skin! Lastly we enjoyed the perfectly prepared, delicate sweetbreads - so crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside paired with a piccata style sauce. We enjoyed a lovely Pinot Noir from the Williamette Valley with our meal. Sadly we were too full to partake of their desert room, but will try to pace ourselves better on our next visit. Looking forward to coming back for that wonderful steak and to try some of the other wonderful items on the menu.
This was the perfect place our anniversary celebration. As always, the food, ambiance, and service were terrific. We had mentioned when reserving that this was a special event and we asked for a quieter table. We were led to a great table for two in a room as quiet as could be found "in season." There was a vase with a red rose and every staff member wished us a Happy anniversary. Everything was just wonderful.
I have gone to Euphemia for 37years. My daughters and I orders three steaks 2 of 2 were nearly raw. Upon returning from the kitchen. They were unchanged. The waiter, Bryan, said “yup- they’re the same.” We paid for all three $280 and left. I was disappointed as I have eaten there for nearly my entire life and know many of the staff. This was a truly disappointing experience.
Outstanding food and service on Christmas evening. Recommend Snapper, Filet and Duck.
Filet is 10 times better than Ruth Chris. David provides outstanding service and has been doing this at Euphemia Haye for 27 years. The owners are very engaged with the all aspects of the operation and very accessible.
Euphemia Haye is consistently one of the best restaurants in Longboat or in the Sarasota area.
It is not inexpensive and so we tend to go there for special occasions (birthdays; Christmas, visiting friends, etc.) and the menu does not change much. The wines by the glass are well chosen, the pear salad terrific and the fillet was outstanding and perfectly prepared (and large; I took half home). It comes with a special pancake that I have never had elsewhere. We were seated promptly at the time of our Open Table reservation and while the dining room was full (and the tables are somewhat close together-- although well laid out) the excellent and friendly staff made us feel well taken care of. This has always been our experience, even on busy nights.
We have been going to Euphemia Haye since it opened in 1975. It is our favorite spot...we drove from Tampa in the 70's to come for dinner before we moved to Sarasota. David is the best, our favorite booth in the bar is comfortable and private, drinks are good, wine list is excellent, Chef Ray is awesome. Love Euphemia Haye!
The hostess was snobby & unwelcoming. As first timers, we were curious to consider sitting upstairs in the loft and ordering off that menu but she was more interested in filling the downstairs seats where we had a reservation & the prices are higher. Then we were seated by the kitchen door and there was an open table close by that was out of the eye shot of the kitchen. The food was mediocre, certainly nowhere near the reputation. I had to send back the fish because it wasn't fully cooked.
We are seasonal residents who discovered this little gem five years ago. We try to get there once a month. The food is gourmet and incredibly good. I love veal sweetbreads and they have the best I have ever tasted. There are so many other wonderful sounding entrees on their menu, but I just cannot deny myself the veal sweetbreads once we sit down to order. My wife has tried the scallops and the duck and says that both are superb. The entry way is a little small and crowded, so make sure you have reservations.
We had a great meal and a good time. The problem was at the end of our meal there was a mix up on the tip and our waiter was very rude in the manner that he inquired about the discrepancy. It was an honest mix up and it was so much as to what he said but the way it was said. Very unfortunate as it put a damper on our overall wonderful experience.
Our best meal near Longboat Key. They are known for their duck, and its outstanding. First time I have had a roast duck with stuffing. We loved the Cajun shrimp appetizer, the complimentary banana bread, and the butternut squash we had with our entrees. Staff is professional, and the place is charming.
