About Etoile Cuisine Et Bar
The owners of Étoile Cuisine et Bar, Chef Philippe Verpiand and Monica Bui, have created an inviting, warm European environment where both traditional and seasonal French food are front and center. "We want to dispel the notion that French food is heavy and pretentious," says the team, recently transplanted to Houston from San Diego, where they owned the famed Cavaillon Restaurant. Everything about Étoile Cuisine et Bar, from the inviting outside facade to the intriguing interior design to the high quality service, is meant to convey a feeling of truly being in France. With Chef Philippe's take on a seasonal menu using a French technique, it's a place where fine food lovers come together, not on a special occasion, but to enjoy every day.

Etoile Cuisine Et Bar Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was lovely, the server terrific, cocktails great, & the wine list excellent. Unfortunately the food was a bit inconsistent. Some items, like the Creme Brûlée, were superb - the best we've had in Houston. But other items, like the lobster bisque, were average at best. I will go back, and I will recommend this place to anyone looking for French cuisine, but will be sure to note that the quality really depends on what you order.
Etoile did not disappoint me again. We started with the onion soup, foie gras and mushrooms ravioli. As an entree we had the special John Dory fish with Garbanzo beans, sole and magret de canard. The food was outstanding and the service exclusive. No wonder why this place is the favorite of the French contingency in Houston.
Fantastic as usual, Etoile is a favorite spot for a special meal. Two of us had the charity dinner, four courses of sublime food (lobster salad, fish, duck or steak, divine dessert of either lemon or chocolate). Portions are suitably sized so that one can taste each course and enjoy it. Service is of a professional standard, rare these days--prompt, courteous but not overbearing. What a delight and a great treasure for Houston.
Food was absolutely excellent. Menu varied and interesting. Service was slow especially as more arrived. While I like the setup-I do not like to have my table 6 inches from the one next to me. That tends to limit conversation more than I am comfortable with when conversation is to be part of the occasion.
I took my husband to Etoile Cuisine Et Bar for his birthday and sat across the table from him as he took the first bite of his meal. His eyes rolled up in his head as he said "Oh my God!" The food was THAT good! The cuisine is French and exquisitely prepared -- every plate is a work of art. Some might consider the service slow, but I think it is a cultural thing. The French do not rush through meals. I thought the prices were moderate considering how wonderful it is. The atmosphere was comfortable and romantic and none of our fellow diners were loud or inconsiderate. Our waiter was knowledgeable, polite and helpful. I would definitely recommend having a meal here.
Best hidden gem....small & cozy!!! Our waiter was fabulous. Best experience I have had in a long time. The food was amazing. I can not mention one thing that bothered us. We are considering it to bring in the new year. I can't wait to go back.....love love love
Nice dining room. Not overly large or loud. We we welcomed in then quickly seated. Waiter was great and helped us with our French.
Very nice dinner. The wine prices are a bit high.
Loved the meal and desert. Sounds odd but my favorite was the bread. I love bread! The waiter even packed four to take away.
Would love to return.
Wish they were right here in Austin!
Etoile never disappoints! Quality food with quality ingredients! Authentic yet creative! Every time we need to drive to Houston from Austin, we plan our arrival just in time to be at Etoile for lunch. We only encountered Etoile less than 2 years ago, but it has been our favorite place to eat whenever we are in Houston. We are afraid to try other French restaurant when we found Etoile to be excellent every time we dined there. We feel we don't need to do any more search for fine, authentic and creative French food!
Everything we tried were excellent! Escargot, mushroom ravioli, beef tartare, duck confit, apple tart and creme brulee were all all feast of the senses! We tend to keep ordering the same things, as we were craving for those everytime, but we certainly will try other dishes on our next visit!
