Etoile Cuisine Et Bar
Everyone was very nice and my meal was very good. First time there. Thank you for a good experience.
Tables are a bit close together which can make private conversation between couples a little awkward, but otherwise I loved this place and intend to come back! Would recommend for sure. Food and service were excellent.
We were given a table in the back room with which we were delighted. The noise level is lower in this room. The food was fabulous, and the service very correct. We cannot wait until we go back again.
The food was outstanding! After a slow start, the service was very good. Great ambiance in the main dining area but unfortunately we were seated by the kitchen which was loud and very busy with wait staff. We will go back but demand that we sit in the main dining area.
Le Etoile never fails to disappoint. It is our very favorite French restaurant in Houston. Reflective of the Parisian style of French food, the meals are creative and well executed in all respects. We usually order off the menu, but tried the prix fix "Charity" dinner last Saturday- pate, fish course, duck, and desert. An excellent buy at $65 per person, plus helping a charitable organization. We always look forward to dining here.
My husband and I enjoyed our experience! Food was great, waitstaff was great. Overall the experience was worthy of 5 stars!
Other French friends had recommended this place as being one of the few authentic French restaurants in Houston. We were not disappointed. Nicely appointed dining rooms, upscale look and great-looking bar. The food struck all the right notes, and the service was great, very attentive personnel, without being overbearing. Lots of French specialties: steak tartare, foie gras, escargots bourguignonne, confit de canard, coq au vin, sole meunière, several mussels dishes and sandwiches, to name just a few. The lunch menu was very well-priced, with most entrées priced under $20. This being lunch, we picked wine by the glass, with a nice selection of reasonably-priced choices. We went on a Saturday, and there was ample spaces on the adjacent parking lot. Definitely a place we will return to.
Marvelous French fare; top shelf wait staff. only issue was an awfully loud table in the main room, with out of control kids(from a dad who survived 2 boss, okay?) possibly the table was filled with regulars but the table was out of control and the front desk didn't quite get my ask for help. would definitely return for a special occasion. the menu selection isn't amazingly varied but- and it's part of the charm and tribute to classic cooking... varied enough and the steak tartare was spot on.
All good. Great food and drink and great service from a waiter we have known for years.
Great food. Make your reservation early and request the back room to avoid the noise!
Great restaurant. We will certainly go back
Wonderful food and presentation accompanied by attentive but not obtrusive service afforded a great birthday celebration en famille.
One of my favorite neighborhood spots! We had a lovely lunch in our cozy and quaint little corner!
this is one of my absolute favorite destinations for business lunches!
We had a great evening and Etoile has never disappointed us.
We shared the escargot and mussels as an appetizer and then split the steak aupoivre and it was delicious! We also each got a dessert that was fabulous. Our server, Fred, made the evening even more delightful!!
Fabulous as always
I've written a number of glowing reviews of Etoile in the past, but our dining on 2/1/19 was off.
First, we requested seating specific seating, and it was not honored. We actually had one of the worst tables in the house, next to the Chefs window. Too much traffic from waiters. Specifically wanted to leave when I arrived, but we had guests. We asked for any other table, but none available.
Service, unusually off. Our waiter was nice, but not attentive. Slow to acknowledge us, slow to assist or take orders, always had to request he take our orders, even for wine upon arrival. Nice fella, but not attentive. When we did order, the rest of the staff truly did a great job of serving.
Food, again, an off night. The Market Fish, (the special), was described much like a Halibut, or Branzino (European Sea Bass). It was nothing like those fish, which are delicious, meaty cold water fish. This was a slimy, OK tasting Fish, but just disappointing. Just followed the unusually disappointing evening.
There were many patrons coming up to the kitchen (more traffic bumping our table), thanking Chef Phillipe for a wonderful dining experience. Having been here before, I've had many good (to great) meals, but last night was one to forget, and will probably keep me away for a while.
Great find - tables for two a little close to other tables - but food is delicious, atmosphere - you feel like you stepped into France. . .
One of Houston’s best
Usually several daily specials as well as the regular menu
Good wine list
One of my regulars
Will definitely return
I felt that the service was just a bit off. The food was good, but the dish that I ordered was not well described and the waiter was no help. I think it was over sauced too.
Attentive staff, food excellent, service was great.
Great service and willing to provide meals with special requests.
We all shared a wonderful meal and were able to have nice conversations ~ even with six of us at the table! Everyone loved their meals and were still talking about it the next day! Our server was excellent!
I selected Etoile seeking out a special, indulgent meal. For a special family meal or date night, this is a great find. The restaurant feels cozy but not cramped. The only discomfort at all was being seated next to the door on a particularly cold Houston night; there are curtains and furniture that help block the door, but we still got some cold air on our feet every time the door opened (but I assure you it was well worth the minor discomfort).
Service is attentive, not at all pushy but readily available, with gracious staff. The bar staff were excellent as well, willing to make custom drinks on request and doing so expertly.
There are two simultaneous menu options, one that is more fixed and one that varies somewhat seasonally. Both have a wonderful range of options.
Mussels as an appetizer were superb; they have two options, we tried "safranaise." The mussels themselves were perfectly cooked, and the broth was flavorful without being overpowering, and the saffron was clearly present and perfectly seasoned.
Our first main dish was the fish of the day which was a snapper in a gentle creme sort of base and delicious tomatoes and fennel above it. The proportion of toppings was perfect and the fish was ideally prepared.
Our other main dish was short ribs. They were remarkable. No bone, two large pieces of meat that was exquisitely tender and robustly flavorful.
We could not have asked for a better meal or more wonderful setting.
My husband and I had a fabulous time. Incredible food and exceptional service by our waiter Alex.
Great service. Our waiter was super attentive. The food was incredible. The mussels in white wine cream and the duck are a 10/10
As always, the service was great and the food was outstanding. Their wines by the glass include great tasting wines at reasonable prices.
Very nice lunch. However for a French restaurant served surprisingly poor bread -very doughy basic white dinner roll.
Love this restaurant- just get very frustrated that the valet parking has blocked off all the Parking’s in front of the restaurant. I do not liked to be “pushed in to” having to use valet parking. Other than this inconvenience, it was a delightful experience and the service was excellent.
Always consistantly one of the best in Houston. We have never been disappointed.
Delightful evening with Frank our server.
Etoile was AMAZING. Fred was our waiter, and although it was only his second night, he was wonderful and was so kind! You would never know he was new to the restaurant! We will definitely be requesting him when we return! The service was truly outstanding. The atmosphere was nice and not too loud making it easy to talk amongst ourselves. There was not one thing I didn’t absolutely love. We started with the escargots bourguignonne, which was my first time trying escargot, and they were so decadent. Highly recommend. I next had the best lobster bisque i’ve ever had, and my dad enjoyed the goat cheese salad, which was also amazing. My dad ordered the filet and I ordered the ribeye for my entree and both steaks were perfectly cooked and the flavor was amazing. Lastly we were talked into the pastilla au chocolat noir and it was easily one of the best things i’ve ever eaten. Think a chocolate molten cake, but with a flakey pastry outside instead of cake. Seriously incredible. We will 1000% be back soon. A seriously wonderful dining experience to say the very least!!
Birthday Mussels were great
New Year’s Eve
Our food was superb (Sole Amandine, Tomato & Burrata Salad, Short Ribs, Lobster Salad, French Gnocchi Appetizer) and Phillipe, our waiter, was both attentive and told many a good story!
Authentic French country cooking. Everything was delicious. Each of the four of us shared our plates with one another because we were so impressed with the quality of the food. Service was outstanding. Wine list was excellent and diverse (lots of regional French choices). I was surprised at the cost of the meals: very reasonable. Special little place - very highly recommended. Hidden gem in Houston.
The food was really good. The only thing negative we noticed was the truffled ravioli that had too much salt.
Too much hyped place that does not meet the dining experience of a good French restaurant.
