Perfect meal, atmosphere and hospitality. Et Voila couldn’t be better if they tried, and they always try to do more and better. Attention to every detail, specials that are always special (like tonight’s mushroom soup and ode to vanilla verrine dessert) and a team of hospitality experts that make you feel like family and close friends.
Et Voilà is always good and it was the perfect place for lunch with some sophisticated friends. I usually go there for dinner. Daytime ambiance was different, but foid and service were both excellent.
We love this restaurant and especially the high tops in the front part near the bar when we have 5 or more. Booked a high top for friends from out of town who have never been, and did it for later - 8 pm. When we got here, they took us to a regular table in the way back of the restaurant, all by itself in a small space right next to the kitchen doors and one of the set-up stations. The space was hot and stuffy and there was constant wait staff traffic. Since the real hightops out front were occupied (though one 6-top only had 2 people at it), and we had guests, I did not protest but it certainly made for a much less satisfactory experience. The service and food were great as always, but very disappointed given that we specifically booked a high top through Open Table, and ended up in a small, busy, stuffy space instead. So beware if you check the box for hightop!
This was my second visit to Et Voila. Needless to say, this meal was as great as the first one. The service is impeccable...friendly and attentive but not intrusive. The food is simply wonderful. From the Yellowtail Tartare appetizer to the perfectly cooked (medium-rare) hanger steak with their incredible peppercorn sauce. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. I can go on and on, but the bottom line is, Et Voila is a rare gem.
Lunch was outside on MacArthur Boulevard. This was a better location than Wisconsin Avenue for eating outside.
Tasty food: the mussels of course, and these rest are good too. Mixed views on the
fish tartare. Alex's cake was sublime.
Very good food and nice set up. Staff very polite and professional.
Had a great lunch, service perfect and food delicious. Went back the next day.
Food was very very good. Servers are brusque. Noise level was quite high. Tables were closer together than I'm comfortable with during the pandemic, normally would be fine.
It never ceases to amaze me how Et Voila manages to surpass its own high standards. Even though they were very busy it was as if we were their special guests. Wonderful as always.
very nice meal and pleasant atmosphere. Enjoyed it very much
Lovely place and the food was very good. I did not love how savory the hosts cheese salad was. Specifically I think the tomato chutney overpowers the dish. The greens and dressing were delicious. My friend had the endive salad and liked it a lot. The branzino was cooked perfectly, and the treatment was lovely.
My two picky comments are
1. that the service and pacing was off. At first we felt rushed to order but then later felt like our server had disappeared.
2. The price of wines by the glass is quite high for the size of the pour.
I'd like to go back and try the mussels and dessert.
We didn't even find fine French cuisine at Et Voilá. The onion soup was hidden under a thick layer of cheese and completely too salty. The burger was very good, but typical American cuisine. The noodles were cooked too long and tasted bland. In it I found a quarter of a slice of zucchini and indefinable, tasteless black crumbs. On the way to the car we still had the salt on our tongues. Here fresh and high-quality ingredients from French cuisine were obviously confused with flavor enhancers such as fat, salt and sugar. Pity.
What a pleasant evening under the Orange umbrella! We haven’t visited in several years but this Restaurant is still
a jewel! The Special soup of the day was a creamy mushroom and it was exquisite, as were the mussels appetizer. We each had a fish dish, sole meunière was excellent, as was the trout. I requested that the champagne sauce for the trout be served on the side, and they did just that! The garlicky spinach was nice and The only thing wrong with the mashed potatoes was that there weren’t enough!
We split the heavenly chocolate praline sundae. The praline whipped cream was delicious. Service excellent!
We will be back with friends!
Solid 4.5 stars. Good mussels, great yellow-tail tartare, and really good burger!
Food per usual is outstanding. Service was ok this time around, not as attentive as they usually are. Too many tables for one server. It's a problem when your starters come before your drink. Gonna mark this up as a fluke. Food is awesome
Everything is always great here, food service, drinks. It's all fab!
Our favorite, always reliable, neighborhood restaurant! This time we had the Dover Sole and Mussels and Fries (currry version) - all fantastic! And the wine list isn’t extensive but all good choices and a good value.
Excellent, as always! The hanger steak frites was bliss.
Popular neighborhood Belgian dive with continental cuisine. The kitchen has been better. Escargot were way overcooked and over-seasoned such that all that one tasted were the pasty herbs. Hangar steak was done appropriately, but soaked in butter. Steak tartar, a dish where less is usually more, was raw steak salad chopped with herbs and vegetables and embalmed in a mayonnaise-type sauce. Based on the preparation, one quarter portion would have been OK for an appetizer, but the 5-inch diameter serving was onerous when half-finished. Perhaps a week's remedial course with a good French chef would help.
A local favorite
Amazing and delicious. Everything is so delicious and the quality and consistency of the food is great. I’m never disappointed.
delicious food! would definitely go again! we all enjoyed
First time and the food was delicious. Just like our old favorite, Montmartre, which is no longer open. Great bistro fare, complete wine and beer and cocktail selection. Caesar salad was well balanced with freshly shave Parmesan and anchovies. Dover sole was delicate and melted in your mouth while the mussels marnier were fragrant and huge. Dessert was spectacular—the vacherin, a sculpture of liqueur soaked sponge, vanilla ice cream and pear sorbet topped with a large meringue kiss, was exquisite. I’d go through rush hour traffic anytime to have it again. The Alex cake was a sublime chocolate mousse confection that disappeared as fast as my vacherin. Will definitely go back. We sat outside and it was accordingly noisy and a few mosquitoes tried to crash the party, but a great experience in any case.
Best burger I've had in years. Beer list is stellar... one of the best in DC.
The trout was delicious. The bread is fabulous. I do wish they would offer a $30 bottle of wine. I would come more often if they did.
Also people smoked in the alleyway right by their table. This was very annoying and should not be allowed.
From the martinis to the entrees and dessert, a truly splendid dining experience. Not my first visit and I have never been disappointed at Et Voila.
I spoke to someone at the restaurant the day before who said he would reserve the private Chef’s Table for our party of 4. When we arrived it had people dining at it and was told there were no notes on our Open Table reservation. Do we were seated at a high top table at the front of the restaurant that was OK but not what was promised. The appetizers were very good - onion soup, beet salad, escargot, and Caesar’s salad. Three of us had mussels with pommes frites - but each of us got a different broth base. My husband’s tomato based one was hands down the best over the traditional white wine and curry ones. The other person in our party got the beef stew - and the waiter told her it included sugar - and she said it was oddly too sweet. The creme brûlée was excellent. It was my birthday dinner and we loved the charming neighborhood ambience/vibe but the food was comparable to Mon Ami Gabi. Not super special.
We went for my wife’s birthday and had a really wonderful time. We were seated right away and given great service. The food was wonderful especially the mussels appetizer. We had a very pleasant and happy birthday experience
Intimate neighborhood bistro. Great food and great service.
Superb as always.
Food was very good. We had the cheese plate, trout, mussels, and Alex’s cake for dessert. But it took 3 requests to get the cocktail we ordered at the outset. Service could have been better.
Excellent service, delicious food, charming setting - a perfect spot.
Et Voila continues to provide top notch food at a reasonable price. It merits recognition as a destination and not just as a local favorite.
Great menu! Server’s off-menu suggestions were excellent too. Outside seating very pleasant, not too crowded. Attentive wait staff.
I was disappointed this time with Et Voila. The mussels were less tasty than previous visits when I have had them, the service was much slower, the waiter less responsive, the hamburger itself less tasty. I don't know what happened..I was there with friends on a beautiful day, but the restaurant itself did not function as well as it has previously, in my view.
My husband’s birthday
wonderful as always. Hanger steak was spot on. looking forward to coming back.
Salads were overly salted. Mussels were totally over cooked.
Very good food and outdoor dining
Excellent as always! I always love going there, and plus it is in my neighborhood!
