Great food, Fantastic Ambiance, and wonderful service. What else can you ask for?
Went with my husband for date night as I had a gift certificate. Cocktails were large and good. Service was just right- not too overbearing. (We did wait for a while for our menus though, but I think they wait until you are served your drinks until they bring the menus). Food was amazing! I had the duck confit ravioli for app and whole mustard covered salmon for entree. Both very very good! My husband had the crabcake (all crab) and the elk chop, which was cooked to perfection!
Is this place expensive? Yes but the food is so worth it!
Always love the food at Esty. Octopus appetizer was tender and perfectly seasoned. My husband enjoyed the elk special and I indulged in the short rib over lobster risotto (had to stop myself from licking the plate!). We usually don't indulge in dessert but thankful we tried the peanut butter and pretzel tort - too good for words. My one and only complaint was that I felt a little rushed. Restaurant wasn't crowded and we were in and out in an hour flat. But, it won't stop me from going back!
The food came out nearly warm. The waitress was busy and didn't come over right away ...so I began to eat it and didn't want to make my friend wait for the meal to be remade.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Food, cocktails and atmosphere are usually fabulous.
The overall experience was sooo off this time. A real disappointment. When I walked in I had to wait like 5 minutes for my coat and to be seated. This NEVER happens so I should have known it would be terrible and I would have walked out. Service was awful, our meal took like forever. Drink orders were super slow and no one even acknowledged or apologized for the mess.
Recommendation to restaurant- don't have open reservations if you have 2 servers for the restaurant and can't handle the crowd.
As always, the food and drinks were terrific.
as regulars to Esty Street, I am almost hesitant to let too many people know how good this restaurant is. we lived in NYC for over 10 years and I still work in NYC and there are very few places in NJ that completely hold their own with best NYC restaurants. However, Esty Street food is consistently of that high quality and simply is outstanding. From the lobster caesar, tuna tartar, octopus, hen of the woods mushrooms, steak, tuna, salmon and always with a long list of specials, we always say wow, so glad NJ has such a local place. In addition, amazing dirty martini’s w blue cheese or pickle stuffed olives or other drinks seal the deal for us. Several varieties of fresh bread with interesting pesto or butter nice way to start. Steve the manager is always friendly, positive, eager to make sure everyone is as happy as possible and have a fun night. When tables are unavailable the bar is a great place to eat as well with a cool fire behind the bar.
Perfect every time. Ambiance, food and service well worth it. Elegant, friendly homie feel. The fireplace behind the bar is a great touch. If you haven't dined at Esty Street your missing out.
We will be back!!!!
Keep driving. That says it all. The rest is redundant
Valentine’s Day dinner $300 left hungry and annoyed
This was my my third time to Esty. We love it everyone we go. This time it was Valentine’s Day. Everything was delicious. From the wine to the scallops with pate and Chilean sea bass with risotto. The red velvet mousse cake was also terrific.
So happy when we discovered this little gem a few years ago and a Ridgewood kitchen tour. The owners were serving fig, onion, bacon jam and giving out their business cards. We were in love. In fact at one of our visits to Esty we asked about the jam and they made it and brought it to our table even though it wasn’t on the menu.
Can’t wait to tell all our friends about our experience. Thanks again.
We love Esty st! From start to finish our dining experience was excellent. Bar service was great while we waited a few minutes for our table. Ambiance is cozy and intimate. Everything we ordered was delicious. Lobster Caesar salad, tuna entree, and airline chicken- all cooked and prepared perfectly. Their dessert can’t be missed either. Thanks for an awesome date nite Esty Street! We’ll be back soon.
Food, service and atmosphere are wonderful! Simply great! I can't wait to go back. :)
Great overall experience. Food, service and atmostphere all at high levels. Would recommend to anyone and will be back in near future.
I booked this restaurant for a birthday. The restaurant knew this but didn't even give a candle to the celebrant. The restaurant was very noisy, but it was Saturday night so not a surprise.
The restaurant is over-priced for Park Ridge, New Jersey at any rate. My $24 lobster medallions tasted of cheese, not lobster.
Most of the food was good. I ordered the special of a petite filet and a crab cake. The filet was great and filling. I did not touch the crab cake and twice told the bus boy(short and dark-haired) that I wanted to bring it home with me. Well, guess what? No crab when I got home. What a disappointment.
This is restaurant where I spent nearly $1000 including a very generous tip. The doggie bags are not given while you're at the table, so even if we'd checked before we left it would have been too late to recover my uneaten crab. This ruined the occasion for me and I won't be back. If poor service/management/whatever hadn't resulted in the restaurant not including the crab cake, I would have given the place two stars.
Excellent meal. Each course was better than the previous. Service was impeccable.
A gorgeous restaurant with an extensive menu. Food was delicious but specials were expensive for the portion on the plate and not aligned with the other prices on the menu. I will go back but if I think of ordering a special I will ask the price.
Never disappoints food is fantastic service is excellent
The food is consistently excellent, and the menu is consistently unique.
So happy that we finally tried Esty. Lovely environment and experience this holiday season. I understand some of the reviewers regarding cost, however given local (subpar) competition, this is a no brainer. Four happy patrons - thanks to the wait staff and chef. We will be back.
such an elegant, cozy restaurant. winter menu is delicious and the service is outstanding.
The service was awful and chaotic. We were a table of four. You had to ask for everything and not once but several times for example water, bread, salt and pepper. For the prices you are paying for example a special was $80 and appetizer special was $35 and specialty drinks were $20 per drink one would think you were fine dining however the service is not at par. The waiters were disorganized. They left us with the menus that are bulky and don’t fit on the tables until our appetizers arrived. The food is amazing, however my sister and I both got the Chilean sea bass with shrimp risotto and it was amazing but it looked like they split our fish portion between us. I should have taken a picture. We both left there hungry. And if you plan on taking home your left overs don’t even bother that becomes a fiasco. Definitely not worth the aggravation and disorganization. Food is excellent but overpriced and the service was not at par. We could have taken a cab into NYC and back and had a better experience.
A great place to dine NY style but in NJ. The the food is prepared to please the diners pallet. The staff always goes out of the way to please the patrons. Must try!
The staff was womderful! From the maiter Dei and bar tendor to all the waiters.
Too much money for average service, really loud room. The food was above average but not outstanding. Given the price and reviews we were expecting outstanding. Great location and charming building.
When you spend $70 for a bottle of wine you expect to be on the table before the meal, not 10 minutes in.
Everytime I go to Esty Street, I ask myself: Why don't we come here more often? Today, I went for a holiday lunch with my girlfriends. A bottle of Veuve Clicqhot to start and followed by the most delicious lunches - spicy tuna tartare, crab cakes and shaved brussel sprout and kale salad to start and share. For entrees, I chose the Seafood Risotto which was richly satisfying but didn't leave me feeling gluttonous. The seafood, especially the fish, was cooked to perfection. My friends thoroughly enjoyed the Seven Spice Tuna Salad, Sashimi special and the Esty Burger. The staff, ambiance and presentation is 5 star. Will be back soon!
Nice place, but expensive. Staff was not to attentive with check amount mistake took a few members of staff to resolve.
Consistant with service, food and drinks - a no brainer!! Tried and true! Will be back for more :)
We go to Esty Street regularly as it stands out for amazing, high quality food, changing menu / specials and very gracious service. It is cozy and calm setting. Service is somewhat old school and not rushed and in fact if you are not up for leisurely dining, you need to mention. This is a top notch restaurant and is not cheap, but given the quality it is understandable. They go out of their way to make you happy and have a great experience. When we bring people who have not been or not in awhile, comments are universal — “cannot believe how great it is and we need to come back”
We are always more than pleased when we dine at Esty St and wonder why we don’t go there more often. The table settings are beautiful, staff is wonderful and food is exceptional. We can sit and catch up with our friends without ever feeling rushed.
As usual an excellent meal well prepared superb food and wonderful presentation
We can't wait to return
Poor experience with the worst experience I have observed in years. Staff seems "out of it" with mistakes at every level - as well as being and rude with other guests. While the restaurant looks beautiful and the good tasty, I will edit for new management and a positive turn-around. Should have read the many negative reviews before we made our reservations. Certainly would have gone elsewhere -I recommend you do so.
Excellent. Lives up to its reputation. Accommodated my wife’s dietary restrictions with aplomb, combining two dishes into one that she loved. Appetizers were scrumptious, main courses very impressive. My bone-in filet mignon was the rare medium-rare that I ordered, tender as can be and flavorful. My wife’s Chilean sea bass was delightful. The sorbet was very fruity and satisfying with fresh fruit around it. The flourless chocolate cake was the only thing not excellent: a bit dry. That and the fact that the price went over $200 without any alcohol for two people. So it’s our new favorite place for very special occasions.
This was our second time at Esty Street for our wedding anniversary and the meal did not disappoint once again. Menu had seasonal changes from last year but some of its classic dishes remained (seafood tower, tomahawk steak, pretzel tart). As always at Esty Street, there is a process and an order of operations for how guests are served, and it's best not to rush the process. First is the water order, then the placing of the wine menu (wine dictionary is more like it), then the wine/spirits order, then the bread basket, and ONLY THEN about 30 minutes later are you served menus and told about the specials. For people like us on an anniversary who had all night to linger over a wonderful meal, the leisurely pace was perfect and allowed us to talk, sip our wine, and just enjoy the atmosphere. If you're in a hurry to get in and out, this pace may not be to your liking. Then again, why come to a place like Esty Street if you want to rush through the meal anyway?
Food itself was wonderful, wine was lovely, and service was impeccable. And then to top off the meal, when we were leaving and waiting to get our doggie bags, we learned that the staff had inadvertently discarded (or gave away) our fairly substantial amount of left-overs. So Esty Street proceeded to cook us entirely new entrees to correct their mistake while we enjoyed a drink on the house at the bar. Very classy. So we got to enjoy our meals all over again the next day. We will certainly return again. For those who have never been and want a sense of the cost, if you get a few appetizers, entrees and a nice bottle of wine, you will easily look to spend $200-$400 depending on what you order.
A quiet, elegant restaurant with excellent service and a varied menu. The Octopus appetizer was delicious, but a pretty small portion. (we did split it, but there were only 2 small pieces) My Chilean Sea Bass was cooked to perfection and the presentation superb. My husbands Veal Chop MIlanese was perfectly prepared and a very nice portion size. The apple crisp was enough to share and was what you would expect. Our waiter was well versed and very attentive without being overbearing. All in all a good dining experience.
My bone in filet was over cooked and had a sauce on it that I did not order. I sent it back to have the sauce removed and it came back extremely over cooked. My daughters filet was very undercooked. They had to take it back twice before they got it right. They did take her filet off the check, which was the tight thing to do. That was two meals they did wrong. We will not be going back. There are better restaurants to enjoy.
Everything was great, food, service, ambiance...etc.
Food was good. Service was very slow. And we were there when it was not crowded at all. Disappointing.
