Expect simplistically-beautiful composed dishes perfect for sharing, flavorful cheeses and charcuterie, incredible Spanish wines, and rich mahogany woodwork.
We’re proud to represent and support our local family farmers and producers. With a blend of Spanish-imported and Wisconsin-grown ingredients, the cultural and regional merging at Estrellón is a dining experience that is uniquely Madison.
The food was excellent however I was disappointed in the somewhat limited menu, especially tapas. Tapas were mostly between $10-20 which is pretty high compared to other Spanish restaurant (Emilios, even Jaleo).
A surprising number of mistakes for a fine dining restaurant. We ordered croquettes, baked goat cheese, tempura green beans, chicken, and grilled octopus. Croquettes were very tasty - much like you would find in Spain - but at $3 for each cheese curd-sized piece, a poor value. Baked goat cheese with spicy marinara sauce was excellent. Tempura green beans also fantastic - probably our favorite.
But things went south from there. The chicken arrived clearly undercooked, and a miscommunication with the kitchen led to a long delay on the grilled octopus to the point that we needed to leave and cancel the order.
We’ve now been to Estrellon three times and each time we experienced at least one disappointment. While the staff was very friendly and professional, the obvious mistakes are hard to overlook. I don’t plan to return.
Great paella made for a wonderful celebration dinner. The appetizer croquetas were not as tasty as our last visit.
Everything is very tasty and different to the pallet. This is a small plate restaurant so you have to order several dishes. The waiter was very good at helping us select what we ordered and had excellent suggestions on the wine.
We have been to Estrellon several times, but this was perhaps our best visit. The food was the best it has ever been. The blistered shishito peppers and patatas bravas were highlights of the meal.
The food and service was impeccable and excellent. New favorite restaurant in Madison.
Great food, wine, company!
Good food and great service. A bit overpriced given the type of cuisine. Save it for a special occasion when you’re looking for something different.
Food delish and different for madison. Service attentive. Servers knowledgeable. Drinks good but small.
The food was amazing! Our server Andy was friendly and knowledgeable. I have already recommended Estrellon to a few friends.
Thanks for the kind words, Hans! We'll be sure to pass this along to Andy.
Perfect place to entertain if you actually want to talk to your guests
Wonderful food, presented well. Creative flavor combinations were nicely executed, especially with the jamón ibérico, paella and basque cake. The pacing of our meal, however, was definitely off. In some cases, the next round of plates arrived way too quickly, while in other cases, long periods of empty plates and cocktail glasses bordered on inattentive service. The physical positioning of staff members between tables (when explaining a dish or preparing paella) was awkward and cramped, as their backsides are literally inches from your face when the restaurant is busy. Nevertheless, a very enjoyable meal if you remember you're in a college town that doesn't take itself too seriously.
There was a long black hair in our Paella
Hi Fred, On behalf of Estrellon, I would like to apologize to you during your dining experience at Estrellon. If you could please email me at information@estrellonrestaurant. c o m I'd love to discuss things further on this matter. Best, Keni Media Coordinator
Wonderful food, great service and a fun atmosphere. We really enjoyed the tasting menu and the accompanying wine flights.
Good food and nice SpanishTapas restaurant. You do pay a price. Our biggest issue was with service. We ordered drinks right away but didn't get them until after several orders of food arrived. Also when food arrived we had no plates. Had to ask wait staff. When we re ordered more tapas they brought the wrong ones and didn't adjust the bill until we asked.
Phenomenal! Hands down the BEST Madison has to offer! A true midwestern star.❤️
Thanks for the kind words, Yuray!
Farm-to-table tapas and all of the food is of the highest quality. Estrellon also excels at vegetable dishes with its connections to Madison's top-notch farmer's market and understanding of how people eat now. Also a very decent wine list - especially for Madison, which is a wine desert unless you drink Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio or something out of a box. Service glossily professional. Our table had a view of the kitchen, but only if one was standing up - otherwise the view is of the bar stools and butts in chairs in the middle of traffic (including chairs being carried through) without a real view. Could hear every word of the conversation at the banquette next to us. Oh, for a cozy nook somewhere AND all of the food and wine excellence of Estrellon. Cozy nooks and acoustic management are not in vogue right now, alas. One of the best places to have dinner in Madison.
Dinner before the theater. They made sure we were served and on our way on time. Delicious food. Loved having tapas. Their wine selection was spot on.
Great food. Good service. Felt the waiter was a little pushy trying to get us to order more food. Overall great time.
It was a birthday and I noticed them through Open Table. On check in they acknowledged this. But we got nothing and two other tables got a desert with a candle.
Beautiful restaurant and nice seating
The food was over priced and not a good value. The paella was over cooked. The rice was over done and dry. The appetizer was small but good.
The price of our wine was $80 and I found it retail for $20. Our wait staff decanter the wine and poured the first glass. We waited until we poured our own.
I would not return.
Estrellon is a beautiful restaurant. Comfortable seating and great ambiance.
I thought the food was mixed. Some was excellent and some was not. We ordered the chefs option for 4 people. It was $90 to share for two but we ordered two of them (for four people) they said there was a $10 upcharge. This felt unnecessary and like we were being nickel and dimed.
I felt like the portions were quite small, particularly since the dishes were for sharing.
The paella was very good. Again, it was for four people and there was really not enough food.
Service was good. The cake with sour cream ice cream for dessert was excellent.
We will not go back. I didn’t think the pricing matched the food quality or quantity.
It was outstanding! We ordered the dinner for 2 and every dish was flavorful and paired so well with each other! Service was excellent!
Never disappointed! Save room for Basque Cake!
We love this place! Our favorite in the city
We had the chef's tasting menu, and it was incredible. The Basque cake was the best I've ever had. The only somewhat negative thing I have to say is that the paella was a bit too salty for me. Our service was also really, really fantastic.
The service was a bit disjointed on this occasion.
Great experience. The paella was delicious though it did seem the rice was burned rather than just charred on the bottom of the pan.
Absolutely outstanding! The waiter, the food, the ambience... a perfect meal in every way!
Fabulous dinner! Waitstaff exceptional. Very authentic. Especially enjoyed paella and Spanish tortilla.
This is one one the best restaurants in all of Madison. They do everything well , including service. In particular, even carnivores like me are thrilled by some of the vegetable options. The tapas format may be surprising for a restaurant this expensive, but everything is brilliantly executed, and this food is full of pleasure.
Estrellon was very enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious. The host and waiter were both very informative and guided us on our food journey. The atmosphere is lovely. I look forward to returning to Estrellon when I return to Madison next year.
The staff was phenomenal! Neil took great care of our group and helped us enjoy our dining experience.
My wife and I spent our Anniversary dinner at Estrellon, and it was marvelous. They had a chef-curated dinner with several small plates and paella that was better than we had in Spain. Drinks were excellent and quick, and the servers were attentive without being overbearing. Definitely coming back to show off this wonderful place to friends and family.

Exceptional food. Even better service. Reasonably priced.
Delicious Spanish food. Attentive service. Very good wine list. Great experience, highly recommended.
Have been here once before, a year ago, and remembered it fondly. Decided to make the hour plus drive from Milwaukee to meet family there. The service was excellent, and the food very good....but just barely very good. The paella was surprisingly dry and over salted, while I actually asked for salt for some of the other tapas. The pan de tomate was rather blah...and it is tomato season, so the tomatoes should be flavorful at this time of year. Coffee was not hot enough for my tastes.
Hi Elaine, Thank you for sharing your experience and we appreciate all your feedback! I'll be sure to pass this along to our culinary staff so we can be more consistent with our flavors and will be sure to communicate with servers to check temps of coffee before serving to guests. Thanks, Keni
