Expect simplistically-beautiful composed dishes perfect for sharing, flavorful cheeses and charcuterie, incredible Spanish wines, and rich mahogany woodwork.
We’re proud to represent and support our local family farmers and producers. With a blend of Spanish-imported and Wisconsin-grown ingredients, the cultural and regional merging at Estrellón is a dining experience that is uniquely Madison.
We were told that we could not sit at the chef's counter but that a window seat was reserved for us. We were escorted to the table by the window which was set up for 4 people (we had 2). The hostess said there was a mistake and asked us to wait. We awkwardly stood by the table until she came back to tell us we had to sit somewhere else (not by a window). About 15 minutes later the table of 4 was divided into two tables for two and say with two different couples.
Really appreciate having a tapas restaurant in the mix in the Madison and to have one of such quality is a real treat. I had to bump up the reservation from six to ten last minute, and the staff was more than willing to help make that happen. Because of the size of our group the chef had proposed a tasting menu which worked out very well. Both paella dishes were excellent. Personally I really enjoyed having a good selection of good Spanish wines. Just a great experience
Hands down one of the best restaurants in Madison. Always evolving the menu to make creative use of local ingredients. This meal was outstanding! The Basque Cake with blueberry compote was so tasty we ordered seconds. In particular we enjoyed the pulpo, the hangar steak, the tempura green beans, the Korean melon and Beauregard snow peas. We always start with pan con tomate. And oh yes, oysters! Service was impeccable.
The incredible, classy atmosphere is enough already, when you pair in a diverse menu - excellently presented in tapas style - that’s equally incredible, it takes this place to the 5/5 stars. Wonderful for date night, laid back enough to enjoy yourself, classy enough to give it that added dazzle. I can’t quantify the dazzle factor in stars, but it doesn’t need stars. It dazzles.
Thank you for the dazzling review, Zach!
Creative, carefully curated local ingredients. Taste rules. Friendly and very helpful server. Had two guests from San Francisco who were shocked at the low cost compared to quality and satisfaction.
Thank you so much for the kind words, Marge!
I had a date night at Estrellón and the service, food and ambiance of the restaurant was fantastic. We sat at the chef’s counter and had the tasting menu for two. Each plate was beautiful, fresh and delicious. The entire staff was friendly and attentive. We had a very wonderful, special experience!
I love sitting at the chef's counter at Estrellon. However, this past experience did not Wow me. I did love the Hamachi Crudo, but the lack of salad on the menu was a dissapointment. Apparently all veggies are from our local farmers market. I have been buying organic greens from the market for the last three weeks. Not sure if they ran out, but you must have some type of salad in the summer.
Estrellon provides a seamlessly executed dining experience. My friend and I were seeing a broadway show and informed our waiter of our time constraints and the food arrived in an appropriate manner to eat, while paced so we would not miss the show! The dishes were excellent and the staff acquire an impressive presentation of the farmers of each produce.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us! We'll be sure to share this with our staff.
One of the top 4 In Madison.
I am struggling to understand why Estrellon is rated as high as it is on open table. Restaurant was empty at 8 and yet service was painstakingly slow - in part because they were already closing down the kitchen. Food was mediocre. Octopus with potatoes was more like potatoes with 3 pieces of Octopus. No dish stood out - meatballs were over sauced, croquettes uninspired.
Overall a horrible experience. We did the chefs tasting menu and it mostly consisted of bread and potatoes plates. I’ve eaten there before and know they have much better options to include (charred octopus, yum!). They also charged us $3 when we asked for no vermouth in our martini.
Food was great, but drinks were a little disappointing. We had to wait a while for our reservation, and service otherwise was slow.
Always an excellent experience. Great service with recommendations on appropriate number of dishes, suggestions, and wine. Love eating here!
The food was delicious and the survie was excellent.
Our second exceptional meal at Estrellon! Everything here, from the impeccable service to the inventive and delicious food, shows outstanding care and attention to detail. We lived in New York and Chicago prior to Madison, and everything about Estrellon is on par with the fine-dining experiences we became accustomed to in those cities. As an aside, do yourself a favor and get a cocktail, even if you're not a "cocktail person." I generally prefer rye or bourbon, or maybe a gin and tonic, but I exclusively drink cocktails at Estrellon because they're so tasty and unique.
Food and service were amazing.
The Chef’s Choice was fantastic! The perfect amount of food for two and the service was wonderful.
Sommelier was excellent. Our waiter Neil was also exceptional. Tasting menu was very good. Will be back!
Amazing seasonal dishes keep the menu fresh and the palate alive! But leave room for Basque Cake for dessert, of course.
Excellent meal, nicely paced, extensive wine list, and wonderful service.
Our second time at the restaurant. Both times were excellent.
We ordered the blood sausage, valenciana paella, and basque cake. I absolutely loved the blood sausage, smokey, salty, and goes lovely with batch bakehouse’s baguette!
The paella tasted amazing, rice cooked perfectly and packed with flavor, however couple of small flaws: the shrimps weren’t the freshest (it’s the midwest not surprised) and the mussels were tiny.
I was looking forward to the basque cake because everyone recommended it. It was yummy, but a little too sweet for me.
Service was uncomfortable. With such a beautiful space and slower tapas style food, I was looking forward to conversation with my dinner guest. But, we're often interrupted and our server seemed confused by our requests.
Food was only OK for such a high caliber and price. Some plates were lackluster while others were interesting and the seafood was really terrible. Definitely hit or miss.
The food was outstanding and the service was just right - they were there when needed without being there too much. The chef's tasting menu was wonderful.
The chef’s table (counter) is an awesome experience. As was the tasting menu! Highly recommend both.
Excellent food and great friendly and professional service. We had just had a very bad experience somewhere else and Estrellon turned what could have been a terrible evening into a wonderful one. Highly recommended.
Service was way below par. Expected more! Food was superb.
A great find in Madison. Wonderful Spanish small plates for sharing, and the Basque Cake is worth every delicious calorie.
Food was fantastic! The blood sausage crostini is cravable! One of our favorite spots!
Excellent Spanish dining experience. The chef’s tasting menu highlighted the savory and sweet dishes of the country. The food was amazing and delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant as a neighborhood gem.
What a wonderful meal and space. So going back. We enjoyed the chef dinner for two and could not have made a better selection
5 of us went to Estrellon last week and all of us thought it was great. Estrellon is Tory Miller's tapas and Spanish themed restaurant. Besides the tapas, there's paella (a traditional one and a vegetarian one) and a number of small/moderated sized plates, designed to be shared. While I've been there a number of times this was the first time for the others. Afterwords I received a number of comments saying this was their best meal ever. While I've eaten there with one dining companion, ten of us, and various numbers in between, it's particularly fun with more than a few dining companions. With greater numbers one can sample a greater variety. We ordered about 20 dishes (a little less than half the menu) and pretty much every one of the plates was a favorite of at least one of us. We happened to mostly order vegetarian items (which I think they are great at. If eating like this was what it meant to eat vegetarian, I could be happy being a vegetarian), there are seafood and meat items on the menu as well. For example on different occasions the Jamon Iberico was described as the best ham they have ever eaten.
Decor is nice. Wait staff was good. The pacing of bringing out the various plates was perfect, removing of finished orders was timely. Food cost was about $45/person and considering this is one of the best restaurants in Madison, I think that's a good value. I've spent way more at other restaurants around the world and not been as pleased. With the 20 dishes or so, we did have some leftovers. I took home some vegetarian paella and another took some leftovers as well.
The restraint feels a little like a hotel lobby, but it is nice. Some of the plates were very tasty, others were too rich. Best plate we had was the pork belly. Overall it was overpriced for the quantity and type of dishes. The wait staff was very attentive though.
We ordered the chef's tasting menu and were served a lot of bread. I would choose our own plates next time but the food, staff, and atmosphere are fantastic, there WILL be a next time!
Estrellon is a solid A-. I have had many meals at so-called popular, high end restaurants in Madison. None have graded higher than a B- overall. Estrellon was different. As many have commented, the food at Estrellon is not cheap. However, they knock it out of the park with unique flavors. I brought my family there for Father's Day and my sons birthday.
Between the 5 of us, we had the olives(good), the baked goat cheese(amazing), 4 different kind of croquettes( all were tasty), rosemary focaccia with butter(amazing), carrot crostini(2 vegetarians loved it), meatballs(delicious), fried oyster mushrooms(one of the best dishes I've had in years and I just got back from Paris!), pork belly(really good), shrimp(the only mediocre dish we had), vegetarian paella(fabulous, but $45 for veggies and rice is ridiculous!), every dessert except the sorbet( the Basque cake is life changing!), beverages(I think 10 glasses of wine, plus 1 cocktail and 5 irish coffees)the wine was really quite good for spanish wines, which I am not a fan of normally.
In all, I think we had about 18 dishes(the mushrooms and bread we reordered. ) 16 beverages with booze was about $405 plus tip. I've spent $500/person at places such as Alinea, so cost isn't always the determining factor for me. Eliminate the beverages, and the cost goes way down. Tory's other neighbor restaurants Graze and L'Etoile are both way over priced for what you get. However, I loved Estrellon so much, I will definitely be back. Even if it's just to have the fried oyster mushrooms, the baked goat cheese, a glass of wine and the basque cake.
Amazing as always!
Excellent as always. The basque cake is exceptional
We had a wonderful time with my mother in law, celebrating our pre-anniversary!
The food is good and tasty albeit very skimpy. Described as tapas to be shared, the portion size belies that possibility. It's the higher cost "large plates" that seem to have the skimpiest portion. The menu is small making return visits kind of boring. More menu choices would be welcome. Service is always just fair, staff appears to be bored and host is often missing. For the price, Estrellon could and should cover the cost of in-building parking. We never quite understand why we keep returning.
The food was good overall. Some items we liked better than others. The experience for Two menu option allowed us to try 8 items for $90 a good deal in our opinion. We were offered a complimentary cocktail for our anniversary. Service was excellent. We will be back again.
Been there many times; each time has been great--food, service wine list. Small plates make it more pricey than going to an upper end entree only restaurant, but the variety of dishes makes it all worth while
