Estragon Ratings and Reviews
I made a reservation 12/29 for my birthday and I can't remember my waiter's name, but he provided some seriously, top notch, service. One person in my party was vegan and another GF and he couldn't have been more patient and accommodating. He gave us options and made really helpful suggestions. When the food came out, he even took the time again to explain what was GF and vegan. I was seriously blown away.
All the food was very good. I especially enjoyed the cuttlefish, which you don't see on many menus. I would recommend it for anyone that needs a menu that can accommodate many types of diets.
Food was quite good with very nice selection of tapas. Interesting and well priced wine list with obvious focus on Spain. Service was very competent, if somewhat slow.
Ambience is the problem for this place...cold night and a very cold restaurant. We were seated near a window...our guess about 62 degrees. Restaurant felt dark and empty.
There are three Spanish restaurants in the South End, they need to pick up their game,
The craft cocktails were so unique and curious. We shared every dish ordered. Delicious!! Even dessert was devoured. Our server knew everything about the menu, the drinks and us. He knew just what we'd like to eat and drink. Great time and great food. We'll go back.
Unfortunately, our evening at Estragon did not make for a pleasant date night. The service was slow and inattentive--looked like the one waitstaff had the bulk of the work while various busers/host did little to help out. I can deal with poor service if the food makes up for it, but it was really the terrible quality food that made for an unfortunate experience. My husband and I orders 6 things and not one was enjoyable. In fact, my husband took one bite of the calamares tapa and couldn't stomach any more. The waitress just asked if we were 'done' with the dish but never asked if something was wrong with it.....isn't it obvious with just one bite missing that the dish was left purposefully? Needless to say, we won't be returning to Estragon.
This is some of the best tapas in boston - the food is almost always very good
My last visit, though m, was disappointing. Both the bar tender and waitress seemed confused and inattentive. It was nearly impossible to get drinks.
Most of the food was excellent, but the paella came back badly burned on the bottom - the sure sign of an overworked and undertrained kitchen since paella requires constant care.
The truly disappointing part was that when the waitress finally came by again, I pointed it out. She scowled and angrily returned to the kitchen without asking if we wanted anything else.
The promptly came back and said "that is how it is supposed to be"
I've eaten Palleiko
The snapper and moon fish taco appetizer were fresh and delicious as were the Brussels sprouts with sausage crumble.
The Fideua was a huge disappointment. Bland, fishy (not a compliment for a seafood dish), and overcooked.
The chocolate mouse with sea salt didn't need the olive oil float.
Estragon shows that quality food and friendly service is a recipe for a successful restaurant. I took a group of friends there during restaurant week and we had a fantastic time with delicious tapas that were very reasonably priced and some great wine. They continue to remain on top of my list of favorite restaurants in town for their food quality and consistency.
Overall things were good, not blow your socks off amazing, but good. I came here after being in Spain for two weeks and apparently not getting enough?! 😉 They had a wide variety but the server steered us toward the specials. I guess I wasn't understanding him or didn't hear that the one (shark I think) was fried but oh well, it did taste decent. I would come back to try more things though, it's nice to have Estragon as alternative to the usual French/Italian restaurants that are so ubiquitous in Boston.
This place is great for a date or hanging out after work to have a drink and a bite. The food was good and some plates were great, but they need to work on consistency.
Service was good and the waiter offered us some great advice on the best meals we had, but food came very slow for Tapas.
This place can certainly improve, there is a lot of potential
Estrogen remains one of my go-to places; the selection of small plates/tapas is interesting and I always find something I've just got to have on the menu or among the specials. Servers are friendly but professional; I went on a slow night and they hit a great relaxed pace with the meal.
