Esterel Ratings and Reviews
Great service, quiet restaurant, but average food. The mushroom risotto we got was cold, the waiter was kind enough to send a new one but it tasted burnt the second time. The mango mouse looked better than it tasted. The flatbread and tomato soup and mac n cheese were delicious.
Very nice ambiance, beautiful garden patio with much appreciated heaters. Interesting and unusual menu options. The food was good, but a bit over flavored for me. The service is excellent. There's a lot of street noise on the patio, especially because of the nearby hospital, but overall it's a great spot.
Overall this was okay. The food was good but neither of our meals was worthy of talking about. The best things we ate were the Stuffed Portabello appetizer (FYI, it is just one mushroom so you have to share it) and the Bomba we had for dessert (which was a deliciously fabulous sphere concocted of vanilla and chocolate ice creams dipped in chocolate and topped with a fruit compote - yum!). My friend's mushroom risotto was "good but not great - I've had better", and my salmon was tasty and well prepared, however, the accompaniments were overcooked. The potatoes were dry and hard like they had been cooked and reheated a few times too many.
Overall, the restaurant is beautifully-adorned and is well-suited inside the fancy Sofitel hotel. Sadly, the food is just not as fancy as the dining room.
They gave us 2 different menus with differing item listed as gluten free on either menu. When asked to specify and modify my dish, they assured me it was no problem yet proceeded to give me a dish with ingredients that were not gluten free. There were cockroaches running around the ground. The manager was unapologetic and when we said we didn't even want to see the desert menu because we were so creeped out, he simply said "understood". For as nice of a hotel as the Sofitel is and for the prices of the food, it certainly left a lot to be desired. Will not be returning.
We were seated on the patio one spring evening--flower festooned area with overhead boughs of blooms. The street noise from Beverly was worth the outdoor exposure, but we could have done without the throbbing music through the sound system. Food pleased us all--loved the tuna poke with avocado, the truffled cauliflower steak, the faro with my husband's chicken. We will definitely be back.
I came for a business lunch and the staff was absolutely wonderful and incredibly accommodating and the environment was stunning the only problem was that one of our party or very late and sadly they neglected to tell us that the kitchen closed at 2 o'clock so we were unable to order any food as we were waiting for the late person in our party. However the wait staff said accommodate us with a cheese plate on the house so that we could at least have a bite of something instead of nothing at all which was very kind. I do wish they had notified us of the kitchen closing as I would have ordered something before they had closed in the meantime. The only other concern is that in the garden the noise level is quite loud due to the street noise surrounding the hotel but that is not the problem of the hotel that is just due to the general location of the area.
Located in the posh Sofitel Hotel across from Beverly Center, Esterel impresses with decor and ambiance. The menu, smartly focused on seafood, is only serviceable. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. The space, on the other hand, is. Open, comfortable, welcoming, and conducive to conversation, accented by warm colors and a wall adorned with classic-style artwork.
The ambiance was great, minus the occasional sound of an engine speeding by (you are positioned right next to a busy street when sitting outside). The server made every mistake possible from taking down the order to bringing out an incomplete order and even the wrong dish.
We went here for Valentine's Day dinner and it was fantastic. The service was on point with just the right amount of attention to detail. There was an on-the-table mood light and red rose petals scattered about. I enjoyed the amuse bouche that was a surprise with my meal. The food was very tasty and was presented in a very elegant manner. Dessert was delicious with just the right amount of sweetness to complement the meal. A very good value for a special occasion.
I came here to celebrate christmas/birthday with my family. For christmas, it was buffet style and food was mediocre at best. Their sides (carrots, asparagus, assorted salads) were way better than the main courses. I was disappointed overall with the quality of food they served while charging $60 per person and 18% gratuity added. Dessert table was probably the best part... until they ran out of my favorite fruit tart and strawberries.
This is our second year at Esterel for Christmas dinner. Two very different experiences.
I felt like the restaurant tried harder to make the experience special last year.
In short - Food was excellent both years. Last year, bread/butter was at the tables, this year it was in the room with the food. I prefer it on the tables. And there was no butter in the food area for the bread.
Last year the service was amazing. Our waiter constantly refolded our napkins, checked in with us about any names, gave us his name from the beginning. Top notch experience!
This year the service was basically non-existent. Waiter never came to introduce himself and we only saw him for water and to ask us if we wanted wine and to retrieve plates. We were very disappointed. On a plus side, the waiter we had last year remembered me and greeted me during our meal.
I found the space to be a little loud and the configurations of large groups make it necessary to walk all the way around, since the gaps between the tables and chairs were very small.
It is overall a great place for both Christmas and Thanksgiving. But I felt this time was a little lack luster compared to last year.
