Small plates are great. Enjoyed the empanadas and the burrata was exceptionally good. Top notch service and seated in a beautiful outdoor patio with heaters. Good location as well, central Monterey, but outside the main tourist zone.
Wonderful ambiance and food
Such great food, we dined twice! The Pulpo! We're still talking about it. The paella and the flatbread (more like small pizza) are worth the wait. We loved dining outside on a beautiful night.
Overall very enjoyable meal. Location is excellent with a lovely patio for outdoor dining. Food was very good with the only possible criticism being perhaps a little overpriced but no significant complaints. Service was the only thing to improve, the staff were all very pleasant but left us waiting a little at times.
We dined here on a Tuesday evening, so it wasn't crowded or loud at all. We enjoyed dining outside under a heater. The service, the food, and the ambiance were all impeccable. I mean - the food!!! Would recommend highly to anyone looking for a delicious meal. We ordered a few tapas dishes first and then had them bring the lambchop, the fish, and the paella out after. There is a 45 minute wait for the paella but enjoying the appetizers and wine made the time go super fast. It was so nice to have a slow, leisurely dining experience. There were four of us dining and we ate every last bite and even ordered desert! We visit the area often and we will definitely be back.
Food was amazing
The service was excellent. Our server, Salome, was very personable and attentive. The food was also excellent. We sat in the outdoor patio where there were plenty of heaters. I was seated next to a gas fireplace which was very nice and provided great ambiance.
The lamb chops arrived barely warm but delicious. The flatbread arrived at the same time and was piping hot but it wasn’t flatbread. It was a thick Chicago style pizza. Seems they held the delicious lamb chops for the yucky flatbread. Service was very slow 45 minutes to get served at 6pm.
Okay food. Overpriced and not authentically from Spain
Late evening dinner after a long day - great way to unwind!
Food was amazing
Nice sitting outdoors on the patio. We love Estaban the cat and our server was wonderful. The apps were yummy, as were the Boss Anna margaritas. I think the paella needs a little something. Kind of bland and the mussels and were super tiny. Otherwise it was a lovely evening and we'll definitely be back.
Excellent food. The paella is a must!
The food was outstanding! Well beyond our expectations for a tapas place.
We were very pleased with the restaurant. The staff was exceptional, friendly, efficient, without being bothersome. The food was excellent. I would recommend Esteban to anyone, looking for a great dining experience.
I personally sought out the manager to tell her what a great job her staff was doing.
We had several of the share plates and the halibut. Every bite was amazing. Salome was an excellent waiter.
Our first experience at this restaurant was outstanding. Being apprehensive about dining during Covid was put to ease here. Staff wearing masks, seating outside spread out. Dinner was delicious. The flavors were amazing. The second experience did not meet the first time expectations. Seated in the sun when there was seating in the shade but I just should have spoken up. I am allergic to dogs and did not realize dogs were allowed. For the most part this wasn’t an issue but untrained dogs are an irritant when trying to enjoy your food. Overall very satisfied and can’t beat walking out your hotel room to your dinner table.
Excellent service. The tomato mozzarella and paella are our favorites.
The staff were wonderful and the food was delicious. Best restaurant at a hotel I’ve ever eaten at.
Absolutely fantastic food and cocktails. You could drop this place into NYC and it would still stand out.
This is a motel restaurant with little ambiance: the Denny’s of Spanish food. Will not go back.
Wonderful service. We had fun with favorite tapas - grilled vegetables were delicious. Patio was warm and cozy with heaters.
FANTASTIC tapas and entrees, great and quiet ambience on the outdoor terrace
Lovely garden setting with heaters. Well paced evening and wonderful waiter.
So here’s the deal with Esteban’s. Spanish tapas style dishes and their burrata tomatoes appetizer is absolutely superb! Really something special with the finest ingredients! The pork empanadas were the best I’ve ever tasted, light flaky crust and delicious filling. That’s why the chicken and sausage paella was such a let down. Burned at the bottom and didn’t come close in texture or palate pleasing to what a top paella should taste like. The chocolate dessert was delicious and the outdoor patio with our table right next to the fire pit made for excellent ambience. So an uneven meal but worth checking out.
This was an amazing experience. They had a menu for our pups. The food was amazing and they went the extra mile for our anniversary. Our server George was knowledgeable, personable, and kind.
We got a late-night (9:30) reservation. Our waiter (Salome) was exemplary, as we had many questions about the food preparation due to my gluten allergy, and he promptly inquired of the kitchen staff all the pertinent details. We had two tapas and drinks. The crispy octopus had the most amazing texture and was highlighted in flavor by the potatoes and chorizo. The wagyu beef marrow was also delicious and the presentation of both was superb. We took a table outside on the beautiful open-air patio and despite the cool weather, the fire pit and heater kept us quite comfortable.
We ate outside to avoid viruses. The bar was slow to get us our drinks. The food was very good, the tomato and burrata was excellent; the tomatos were full of flavor. Our chicken and fish were prepared with finesse. The only negative issue was the overloading of the plate with too many vegetables. Service was friendly and competent.
Not inexpensive, but the creative dishes, beautiful presentation and first-rate ingredients make it a very good value. We ordered three of the daily specials and loved them all.
My experience was much more than excellent, I’ve been there before but needed to return to try more items on the menu. I booked a table for two for my boyfriend and I for his birthday and I asked if they could put something on the table that said “happy birthday” with my boyfriends name and they did ! When the host walked us to our table I seen a little sign on the table and also on the menus that said “happy birthday” and his name at the top of the menu, it was real sweet, he was surprised. The food is great, the ambiance is wonderful, we got a table outside right next to the fire and we were very comfortable. Our server kept checking up on us, we ordered about five dishes to share and our server told us desert will be free because it was his birthday. We had an amazing time, can’t wait to go back and try more dishes :)
Started with a cocktail- Excellent Martini! Ana (Bartender) recommended Grilled Polenta appetizer- Excellent! Moved to dinner, waiter recommended Burrata with Heirloom Tomatoes Bruschetta- Excellent! Paella for two- unique and Excellent! Another recommendation for dessert was sorbet with unbelievable chocolate chip cookies. Shaved chocolate, crisp and gooey— Excellent! Staff were all great. Knowledgeable, gracious and very attentive. Overall experience- you guessed it— Excellent!!
Limited and confusing menu. Very poor service, extremely slow.
The tapas are always an excellent choice for those of us with a light appetite. However, a full and excellent menu is also available.
Very nice dinner. We tried several appetizers, drinks and shared the lamb chops. All delicious.
Food was exceptional, the staff was friendly and made our experience wonderful.
Excellent pork belly. Very nice courtyard area. Make a reservation!
Esteben has a creative menu thats prepared well. The short rib and pulp dishes were fantastic and the empanadas do not disappoint. The outside patio is spacious, out of the wind and off the street, all wonderful qualities.
The restaurant has a nice outside patio (but next to a parking lot), and waiter was very amicable and accommodating. However, staff forgot to wipe the table clean and also brought a dirty water glass (nice green herb stuck to the rim...). The special tapas were excellent (Peppers and also Burrata), but the other tapas were not good (tough Pulpo and tasteless Empanadas). Wine list is very limited and mostly of ordinary quality.
First time in Monterey, we tried this place for apps and drinks. Wonderful! The staff was courteous and efficient, and went out of their way to ensure we had a great time. The food was exquisite. So many choices for the vegetarian among us. The flatbread and arancini are to die for. I'm sure the entrees will be just as good if not better.
