Food was average, at best. Service was very food and accomodaring. Menu selection quite limited
Stayed at Ritz St Thomas for a week long vacation with my wife and daughters (24 and 22). We ate primarily on site and the food here was terrific. Thought a little pricey esp wine list. But it is the Ritz. Overall a wonderful restaurant. Limoncello terrific
The service was impeccable and the food delicious! We did not take advantage of the patio seating, but enjoyed the ambiance in the main dining room.
We were disappointed to find out that they no longer served the lasagna, which was the best! Very limited menu and not a lot of pasta on the menu which is what you would expect at an Italian restaurant. So we ordered the pizza which was good.
For being a Ritz Carlton restaurant I thought the food was subpar. Since it is an Italian restaurant I thought I would order the pasta with seafood in a light tomato sauce. I should have ordered something else. The pasta was not cooked properly and the seafood did not seem fresh at all. The sauce was light but only because it seemed watered down. Seems like my dish had been made a few hours ago. Overall I was highly disappointed in this Ritz Carlton restaurant.
The restaurant was dirty. The menu had stains on it. The seat cushions at the bar were ripped. And my meal was not cooked. I'm just shocked that this restaurant was in a Ritz Carlton
Dined twice, both times for dinner. We deemed the food very good, but not always to our personal taste but cannot downgrade it for that. For example, we prefer our pasta al dente and theirs is more done. We like our sauces a tad lighter, theirs a a bit heavier, but that we deemed a matter of taste. Pasta is made daily on a pasta table set up in the foyer. We had a specialty of the day one evening, ravioli stuffed with veal and ricotta cheese, that was heavenly. It was worthy of a top grade from Michelin. Front of the house under Kathleen, on one evening, and Manu, on the other, was attentive and friendly. Understanbly, locals who were servers not that knowledgeable about Italian cuisine. Kudos to both Manu and Katheeen for keeping matters top-shelf RC with staff drawn from the island. If you're accustomed to Babbo, Felidia, Il Mulino, etc. fare from NYC, this is not quite it, but more than acceptable and much to our liking. Chatting with the Chef before ordering always helps.
The food was cooked perfectly! Branzino was grilled to perfection. They knew we were celebrating our anniversary and bought champagne to our table complementary!
Wonderful service and lovely view by the water!
Fettuccine was really good with sausage and mushroom, also try the meat and cheese starter, very good!
Great food and dining experience. We ate outside with a beautiful view of the moon shining on the water & had friendly, knowledgeable service. The chef went table to table introducing himself & chatting, which was very nice. The food was fantastic & prepared exactly as we ordered, we had the rabbit, the pork chop & a scallop pizza. The restaurant is simple in decor but beautiful & a warm environment in which to dine.
Food was piping hot when it arrived. Love that
The service was great but the food quality for a Ritz was below my expectations. I stay at a Ritz 2-3 times a year in various Locations. Their restaurants on sight are high quality. This Ritz is below in quality of food. The hotel and location is beautiful but I believe they need to work on the variety and quality of their food. One of us ordered margarita pizza it was good. The chicken was good and I had a pasta dish good.
The place was beautiful. The service was alright. It took forever for her to come to us at first and she just brought us waters and walked away before we even had a chance to order. We waited a while before we got our check. The chef was very nice and brought our food out to us. I had the risotto which was surprisingly fishy considering it only had prawns with it, so I did not like it very much. My boyfriend ordered the fettuccine allo scoglio which was very good. The pizza di made was good but did not care too much for the scallops. They kinda over powered it. But the Caesar was excellent. Overall, I just didn't find it to up to the quality a Ritz restaurant should have. We had much better dining at other restaurants on the island.
Absolute best dinning experience since moving to St. Thomas. Great food and hospitality was excellent. If you go you must ask for Kervin. Such a great waiter and will really treat you with respect and kindness. He goes above and beyond for you as a waiter.
The menu feels more like northern Italian comfort food. The cocktails are very creative and really good. The menu had recently changed and was not at all what we were expecting. Feels like they are not sure what they want to be. Would have preferred the traditional fruiti Mari or lobster ravioli. Would suggest adding lighter food with more seafood and a Caribbean flare
Great service from the entire staff
I would term this restaurant only as "acceptable" given the context of the Red Hook area of St. Thomas. This restaurant was not exceptional in any way but is one of the better you will find in the area.
We celebrated Valentine's Day at Essenza and had a wonderful meal in the bar. Jack took great care of us and the food and service were terrific. We highly recommend Essenza when staying at the Ritz!
A wonderful Italian meal overlooking Great Bay. We were staying at the Ritz and decided to try Essenza as our first dinner. We sat outside with a full moon glowing over Great Bay which was beautiful. I started with Frito Miso which was enormous, and my wife had the Caprese Salad. Both were delicious. I had the grouper with lobster gnocchi, and my wife had the bronzino, both of which were generous portions, well prepared, and wonderful. We finished with a unique and somewhat savory goat cheese cheesecake with honey and beet ice cream which delightful! Service was excellent as well. Recommended.
This was our third dinner here this week and all the meals have been wonderful. I've had the rabbit and home made pasta, the slow cooked short ribs and last night I had the pasta, mahi and lobster and it was the best meal I've ever had
Great service and menu. Staff was very attentive to our needs. The fish was epic!
Underwhelmed for the Ritz, brought wrong food, service slow --- better options around;(
Everything was good and timely except the waitress who didn't know what she was doing. She had to get help. Food was Great
We went with four people. We were missing utensil's...had to ask. Salads and appetizers came out at the same. One of the people in our party received the wrong entree and we had to wait for it to be prepared. One in our party asked for a cup of coffee, it came and took another 7 minutes to bring a spoon, sugar and cream so that his coffee was cold.
Overall it was very disappointing. We had expected much better from the Ritz. We are in STT until 1/13/17 and really thought we had found a new hot spot to dine, but sorry to say, we won't be going back.
It was awful. We sat for 30 minutes and no one came to table. I had to go get them. Dinner took forever and they never cleaned off our appetizers. It was a complete and total disappointment.
Food was bland at best. Service was ok. Worst resturant at the Ritz. Would not recommend
Poor Veal chop- overcooked and coated withan unpleasantly sweet spice, followed by a Tiamarus built for show and size, not flavor
The Grouper entree was superb, the best meal in years and years. The Chef is outstanding....
One of the best meals my wife and I have had on vacation in years, the tableside visit by the head chef made the evening even that much more memorable, so much so we came back for a second dinner two days later. Would highly recommend as one of the best meals in the Virgin Islands.
This was by far our favorite restaurant while staying at the Ritz-Carlton on St. Thomas. Not only was the service outstanding, the chef displayed an exceptional flair with his dishes. We would highly recommend the Essenza to anyone staying on St. Thomas.
Food was average. Small number of tables and customers but service was poor.
Good spot for dinner with an excellent view of Great Bay and St. John. Food portions for appetizers are small. I enjoy the pizza specials and the grouper in a lobster and fresh vegetable sauce. The staff is excellent.
Beautiful hotel however the food at Essenza was very disappointing. First we waited some time a server to acknowledge we were at the table. The chicken parm was rather dry and covered in a lot of sauce. The pasta, which was supposed to have been prepared in the parmesan wheel had too much sauce and the sauce had an excessive amount of oregano. Tasted like a jar sauce.
For such a wonderful property, the food experience at Essenza was very poor. The $47 veal chop was a particular disappointment.
The music was a continuous loop of techno - again not what one would expect in what could otherwise be a romantic setting.
The staff was friendly, but seemed oblivious to the issues even when we commented.
If staying at this Ritz, try one of the other restaurants.
Perfect evening! Can't speak highly enough about the experience at Essenza. Clarissa was an amazing server and the food, wine and entire evening was the best we have ever experienced in the Virgin Islands. This was our honeymoon and we had very high expectations with both of us being in the industry. You won't regret a night at Essenza
Wonderful food, service! Limited wine menu, but good options. Beautiful setting.
Views are wonderful outside. Kid friendly. Lots of groups.
We tried several of the restaurants on and off property. The food and service was outstanding. We rarely like to eat at the same place twice on vacation but this time we did. Shirley, the hostess, was very kind and accommodating. She checked on us several times during our meal each night. The outdoor seating has impressive views of the beach and ocean. As for the food, the caprese salad and the carpaccio are great appetizers. The grouper entree was amazing. The fiocci was decadent. We had a unique lobster special which was pounded and fried piccata style. Wow! Lastly, the homemade lemoncello is a nice aperitif. From our party of four picky foodies... Give this a try! We thought it was the best food at the Ritz along with the Grande Palazzo.
Highly recomend
Terrible service. Food was sub par. The only good thing was the pizza. The sauce on the pasta was possibly jarred store bought.
Although a bit pricy, Essenza is a very nice restaurant. Our dinner was very good and the service was average. Our complaint however is that they need to address their timing. When fine dining in such a expensive restaurant, you shouldn't feel rushed. We barely finished our appetizer when the entre was brought to the table. Once our table was cleared, it took forever for them to bring our dessert which was crème brulee which is made ahead of time and not prepared special as would be a soufflé.
Better than expected!! The caprese is absolutely a must! Our server,
Kervin, was a gem. The pastas were delicious as was the ambiance. Surprisingly great for resort dining.
