Essense Ratings and Reviews
They left me with the impression that they were under staffed and rushed. We waited at the front reception desk for an easy 5 minutes before we were even spoken to about are reservation, and if weren't for an amazing couple who insisted to the staff that we take there table we would have left.
But once seated the service was fine and friendly, the food amazing .
Brunch was the reverse . Staff was on point and the food was average.
Overall it was a bit pricey for the experience I expected better.
Good dinner, but VERY GOOD breakfast. The best I've had in a while. Vegan pancakes and chia pudding were top notch. Drinks were a little over priced, but we got a great deal on food through our package at Two Bunch Palms. Very satisfied with the food overall.
We've been to Essence before. Three of us really like our meal (Strip Steak). My mother, who has been wanted to come back for quite some time, was not happy and has decided if she returns it will only be for lunch as nothing on the dinner menu was very appealing. I ding the service mainly because the person who was filling water was at every table except ours. I finally was able to flag her down (after finishing one of my companion's water).
The service was great, make sure you make a reservation for dinner. Clean food, my husband ordered the burger, which I tried and was amazing. I ordered skirt steak which was ok. Flavor was good but a bit tough and chewy. Sides were good. Next night I ordered a Caesar salad which was good and chickpea curry and white rice which was not good. I've tried a lot of different curries and this one was one of my least favorites (should have gotten the burger) Beer was good, cocktails were good.
The food was adequate-- nothing to earn it a rave review nor a complaint.
The service, while friendly, was subpar at a restaurant charging higher prices. We were left wanting to order more wine, given wrong menus, ordering things that ultimately weren't available, hearing the bar tender and wait staff planning their night. . When your bill ultimately comes to $170.00 for two for dinner, you expect the service to match.
It is the only restaurant on the premises . It's too bad that you still want to drive somewhere else for dinner.
There were not enough servers for the number of tables. Even the servers that were there disappeared for long periods of time. The food did not come out as ordered. A pity since the food itself was good. For these prices the service needs to greatly improve.
Jeremy is a fantastic bartender. He made our night! He made up some of his original drink creations along with some of our favorites. Great food recommendations, we went with the spaghetti (similar to a carbonara) and the burger (best burger I've had). Great atmosphere and great conversation. We will be making this our regular dinner spot.
The service was amazing, the food was delectable, and the ambience was perfect for a romantic, relaxing evening in Desert Springs! Highly recommend the bacon wrapped dates as an appetizer and the Lamb Chops and Kobe Burger as entrees. We got a bottle of the Cline Pinot Noir as well and it was a perfect pair to the meal, smooth and light - great value!
We've eaten at Essense several times. The ambiance and service are always exceptional and the food usually is. But this time was different. We both ordered from a pri-fix menu. I realize now that that was our mistake. I had the 1/2 cornish hen with a mixed greens salad (which was exceptional) It was dry and flavorless. First bad food I've ever been served at Essense.
Someday, I'll learn my lesson about ordering from a pri-fix menu.
Before dinner was served, chef came into the dining room to great a friend who was sitting at the next table. After she spoke with the friend, she looked at our table, made eye contact with me and then turned and left without even saying hello. That was a bit off-putting. Even a smile would have been better :) Good thing the wait-staff is super friendly.
I was pleasantly surprised by the food and dining here. I went thinking it was just a place to get lunch for our day at the spa. The food was REALLY delicious and the view so serene and peaceful. I had a wonderful burger and my wife's salad was fresh and very tasty. Having had such a lovely lunch there, I would definitely go back for dinner. It is a bit of a drive, but the view and setting is so lovely.
We went there for an early dinner on Sunday..we knew that it was a wellness center but we did not expect people to have dinner with their bathrobes on,around us..the attractive outdoor sitting area photo was an exaggeration..the reality was a small patio..it may be a place for brunch but not definetly for dinner..
We were there for lunch on my friend's birthday, had a lovely table along the big widow. The restaurant has a charming setting, relaxing and serene, yet the food experience was not good. My companion had the Essense Burger that was fully cooked, though he requested for medium and pink inside, the Kobe Wagyu beef was dry and without taste. I had the Baked Salmon Nori Roll, also dry and bland, had to wash it down with coffee. Have many farm-to-table experiences, the farm is not good if that's how the food taste, or no taste actually and for those prices.
After reading great reviews of this place, we made reservations and were able to find it (not easy, kinda hidden). While the staff was nice, and our salads were tasty, our entrees took a very long time to arrive. Though the wait staff apologized and promised our food was coming right out, it was still a disappointment when it arrived. My duck entree was good, but my husbands lamb dish was lacking. It seemed like they ran out of the ingredients, as the plate did not warrant the $37 price tag. We do not mind paying top dollar for great food, but this was not up to par. Our waitress gave us a complimentary dessert of chocolate and berries, which was a nice gesture.
