This is a very nice restaurant, the food os great quality and many options for veggie, gluten free, keto and the like. The service is a little bit random. we ate here several nights, some night with great service and others not. But the vibe is relaxed and chill so we didn't mind as much.
Restaurant week dinner with friends. The room is lovely with a beautiful view of Mount San Jacinto. Desiree, our server, was pleasant, courteous, and efficient. The food was unique- duck tacos, bison steak, charred wedge salad- and so delicious. Another winner from Chef Joshua. Delightful evening. Our guests from Modesto,CA loved it.
If you are into nostalgia, legend, or lore, then a trip to Essense at Two Bunch Palms is a must. By California standards, it is historic, if not epic. The meals at Essense are very fairly priced, which is not what one might expect at an establishment with such toney clientele. However, it's Southern California (and the desert, at that), so everyone is very welcome and comfortable. We hope to return quite often!
Wonderful menu, great wine list, and the best view in the Coachella Valley! The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful.
Very pricey overall... Example my husband and I had fish tacos, eggs Benedict, coffee (each person) and a side of fries for $70
Restaurant week brunch- first time there. Beautiful setting and view from the dining room. Staff very prompt, courteous and friendly particularly waiter Augustin and chef Joshua. Food unique, beautifully presented and delicious. Will be back.
Nothing really special about the restaurant or the food. Portions were small - I had shrimp and grits and I was hard pressed to find the grits. Service was adequate, but certainly not great. The facility was stark - looked more like a lodge at a national park than a fine dining room. There could be outstanding views, but the dining room does not take advantage of the possibilities. The price was on a par with a fine dining establishment, but nothing else was.
We like taking visitors to see Cabot’s Pueblo, topped off with a visit to Two Bunch Palms for lunch. We have eaten there several times. The view and the room are lovely and the food is very tasty. But the food now seems over priced and the wait staff is slow.
Excellent food and service. Great venue with beautiful grounds.
The directions link in the app pointed us to a totally wrong address. We were surprised to see guests in bath robes in the dining room. The food was nothing special considering the price. The waiter was kind but inexperienced.
Good food and drink is to be found at this classic venue. This spot could add a nice little piano lounge, and it would fit right in !
Essence, in it's past two incarnations - as a full spa restaurant and then an Asian fusion restaurant when the new owners purchased the spa, was a lovely place to eat in terms of the service and the food. The latest incarnation needs quite a bit of work to find its footing, as the quality of the service staff has declined considerably - perhaps the new owners were too hasty in their renovations?
I had the best avocado toast I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Service was great and ambience was very warm and cozy. We would definitely go back again.
The restaurant is located in the very nicely appointed Twin Palms Resort. The only downside is the mandatory valet parking, as it was cold and windy to wait for the car to arrive.
This restaurant must have a new chef, because our food was much, much better than during our last visit to this spa resort. Too often, a rather isolated resort like Two Bunch Palms pays too little attention to the food offered since it has a captive customer base. But our last meal here was tasty enough that we would consider driving here just to eat.
Had our first bad meal at essence in years of coming here (#avoidthepasta), this is usually one of our most favorite spots. That said brunch (eggs benedict and avocado toast) was superb. All in all a great experience, just have to order better.
The food was excellent. The burrata and the strip steak were the highlights. A cozy fire was burning on a cold night which made it a very romantic dinner. All the staff was very friendly and attentive.
Complete let down for a very explosive hotel resort dining room.
Upon entry my wife commented on how dirty the floor was; we should have take the hint and turned around.
There was no supervisory oversight in the whole dining room.
Wait staff were green and did their best but were way out of their comfort level.
I was served a different wine by the glass than I ordered - an expensive glass of Cabernet - I got a zin.
Chef’s idea of seasoning is to add more garlic.
Numerous items on an already short menu were NA...waiter couldn’t explain why.
And upon leaving, at 8P, with three couples waiting to be seated - we head a waitress tell the patrons that the chef was closing the kitchen early... reaction was what one would expect ...a complete & epic fail.
Outstanding service & delicious food! It was my first time dining there and I will definitely return!!
always a treat, superb menu, great drinks, ridiculous sofas
When in Palm Desert this is the place to eat for healthy options, fair prices and desert ambience
You have to update your information. Went for our lunch only to find out it has been closed for renovations. Will reopen soon
So, they are apparently closed for renovations... Somehow I was still able to book a table and waste my time driving over. Not even their website expresses their closure... It's moronic.
Went with a group of friends and we were all very delighted. Friendly staff, excellent food, great atmosphere. Will be back!
This is the only decent restaurant in DHS for a business meal, even if most diners are still wearing their robe from the spa.
This food was fabulous. My favorites were the asparagus salad my husband ordered and the salmon we each ordered. Both were unusually good - rewarding in both rexture taste and aroms. They had a good wone list abd we loved our chocolate gateau for desert. Really delicious and relaxing and fun ambience to boot.
We had a fabulous friends lunch at Essense! The food is terrific as is the service and the environment is fun and fresh yet quiet enough for relaxed conversation! A great spot for lunch even if you aren't staying at the resort!
Essence is one of our favorite restaurants. We've been impressed with the wonderful craft cocktails that we've had and this last visit didn't disappoint. We also appreciate the creative
cuisine and the fact that there is an emphasis on local and organic. I'm a vegetarian (mostly vegan) and I've been able to find many wonderful items on the menu.
We own a restaurant in the desert and we're always looking for great places to eat when we are fortunate enough to have time off.
The staff is both uninformed and disorganized, with various members coming by our table is no apparent order. They could not correctly describe the food. The menu also misrepresented the dishes: a “broccoli and sorrel salad” is actually a mound of arugula with two small bits of broccoli and no sorrel. The appearance of whole orchids as garnish in no less than two appetizers and two desserts was unappealing and pathetic, as if the chefs were utterly clueless about the art of presentation, believing sticking a Christmas bow on every plate will improve it. The gnocchi with mushroom ragu was fine, if dull. The pistachio and chocolate cakes were over sweet, and completely lost in a mess of coulis, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, cookies and powdered sugar: more evidence of a bewildered kitchen throwing whatever they can find on the plates. At $200 for two of us, we regretted visiting Essense.
Gnocchi with fennel sausage had big chunks of fennel, virtually no sausage, and not a lot of gnocchi. This restaurant has gone way downhill. It now is mostly vegetarian and vegan, so it's great if that's your thing, but otherwise forget it.
We are frequent guests but this time the sides came out cold and we're still cold after we sent them back so we gave up. The service is always impeccable and so is th ambiance...but the food this time....so so. Will we be back? Yes! It's one of our go to date night places...but ......buyer beware! Not exactly cheap either 156.00 before tip
Wonderful atmosphere Food was excellent
The service was excellent. $19.00 for a plate of cold spaghetti was a little much. It didn't taste very good either. Might have been because it was cold. It didn't even come with bread. The bottle of wine was good, but very expensive. Overall we had a nice time.
They left me with the impression that they were under staffed and rushed. We waited at the front reception desk for an easy 5 minutes before we were even spoken to about are reservation, and if weren't for an amazing couple who insisted to the staff that we take there table we would have left.
But once seated the service was fine and friendly, the food amazing .
Brunch was the reverse . Staff was on point and the food was average.
Overall it was a bit pricey for the experience I expected better.
Good dinner, but VERY GOOD breakfast. The best I've had in a while. Vegan pancakes and chia pudding were top notch. Drinks were a little over priced, but we got a great deal on food through our package at Two Bunch Palms. Very satisfied with the food overall.
We've been to Essence before. Three of us really like our meal (Strip Steak). My mother, who has been wanted to come back for quite some time, was not happy and has decided if she returns it will only be for lunch as nothing on the dinner menu was very appealing. I ding the service mainly because the person who was filling water was at every table except ours. I finally was able to flag her down (after finishing one of my companion's water).
The service was great, make sure you make a reservation for dinner. Clean food, my husband ordered the burger, which I tried and was amazing. I ordered skirt steak which was ok. Flavor was good but a bit tough and chewy. Sides were good. Next night I ordered a Caesar salad which was good and chickpea curry and white rice which was not good. I've tried a lot of different curries and this one was one of my least favorites (should have gotten the burger) Beer was good, cocktails were good.
The food was adequate-- nothing to earn it a rave review nor a complaint.
The service, while friendly, was subpar at a restaurant charging higher prices. We were left wanting to order more wine, given wrong menus, ordering things that ultimately weren't available, hearing the bar tender and wait staff planning their night. . When your bill ultimately comes to $170.00 for two for dinner, you expect the service to match.
It is the only restaurant on the premises . It's too bad that you still want to drive somewhere else for dinner.
Decent meal, easy to be vegan here. Excellent wine. I wouldn't sit outside next time. Patio left a lot to be desired.
There were not enough servers for the number of tables. Even the servers that were there disappeared for long periods of time. The food did not come out as ordered. A pity since the food itself was good. For these prices the service needs to greatly improve.
