Essence of Unionville Ratings and Reviews
Starting with the positives.....lobby and restaurant are beautiful. For the price it is good value for a Sunday buffet brunch in a hotel. The service was attentive and friendly however you have to ask for coffee - they don't offer it. Having said that, the water and orange juice was filled without asking. The lunch foods on the buffet are very good as is the sushi and dessert choices. The egg station chef was great and very accommodating to our requests.
Now for the not so great.......when we got to the hotel we parked and paid for parking at the machines as you're instructed to do. When we got to the dining room they had a clipboard to fill in your license plate for free parking. ??? When I asked the hostess why we weren't told about free parking BEFORE we paid she advised that it was because we booked through Open Table and didn't offer to rectify the situation. Not happy that our party of 8 (with 4 cars) each paid $6.00 when we didn't have to.
The breakfast item choices are limited. There's the omelette/egg station which is nice. They have bacon and sausages and eggs benedict that unfortunately were dried out and looked very unhappy with the sauce completed hardened on the eggs. No waffles, pancakes or French toast which is almost unheard of for a buffet brunch. No toast or breads or any kind except for croissants and some rolls. They have a beautiful display of smoked salmon and then offer cream cheese in those little packages you find in the holder on the table at a diner, but there's nothing to put the cream cheese and smoked salmon on except for a roll or a croissant.
So all in all, if you know in advance that you don't have to pay $24.00 for parking like we did and you're looking for a nice venue for a large group with good food albeit limited choices for a lower than average Sunday Brunch Buffet price I would recommend Essense. If you're not worried about spending the extra $15.00 or $20.00 there may be better options available.
We loved the booth because it was private so we could talk. The service was amazing. The food that we ordered was amazing with every dish better than the other. My wife wanted to try different dishes and we very satisfied with everything. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Greeted warmly by Samantha, who is really delightful, and service was very good as was the food. Lobby bar is attractive and was reasonably full, dining room was almost empty on a Saturday night. I suppose there are a lot of choices in Unionville/Markham, still I was surprised.
I had planned a special night for my boyfriends birthday and when I got there the hostes was inattentive, the service was slow and the waiter pressured for a tip lager then what was given. I had in advance asked for a candle to come with desert and instead I had to ask for the desert menu since I wasn't offered it. The glassware and utensils at the table were dirty.
They have a new menu after our last visit. Barbara our server made excellent suggestions on what's new. We love the quinoa salad and the dessert. My husband had the Striploin and I had the seafood paella. They were both delicious. The service was excellent. We will definitely be back soon.
My husband and I had a lovely evening at the Essence of Unionville. Our steaks were excellent and the service was amazing. They even brought a surprise piece of cake to our table as it was my husband's birthday. That extra touch was very much appreciated. Overall, a very nice experience.
The restaurant is located inside the Hilton Suite Hotel. I like the fact that the restaurant is not crowded and sufficient spacing between tables. I am able to carry on a conversation with my friends without yelling. Our server Barbara is very attentive and provides excellent service. The food is severed hot and very tasty with good presentation. I will definitely come back again.
It took over 30 mins for us to receive our dinner after our appetizer and no one bothered to check up on us.
On top of that our service was below par and I believe that was attributed to us presenting a voucher I purchased off of TrazelZoo. With it being a set menu the waiter thought we'd not order anything else which wasn't the case.
Would not recommend going back.
The food was way above average for a hotel restaurant. Had many meals here and dinner by far was the best. The service was some of the worst service I have had and even had to get up from the table to find the server to order addition items, ask for silverware and get the check. Then of course the tip was included on the bill. At least we had amazing food, and great company.
We were turned off by the hostess rudeness and unpleasantness. She acted somewhat arrogant and superior. We continue to be polite towards her thinking that she was just having a bad day. However, her attitude did not change. The sad thing was that she has the same foreign accent as me and yet she treated her own kind like refugee.
The food was poor, tenderloin? More like flank round steak. Brutal. Given the prices the quality was low. The server basically had no interest and I felt like she should have been cleaning the hotel rooms instead of serving at the restaurant. Unfortunate since I took my wife on her birthday. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
My friend and I came here because of the +1000 pts on OpenTable. We ordered the Korean Short Ribs, French Onion Soup, Grilled Salmon and Mushroom Ravioli. The broth in the soup was very flavourful, strong and executed well. The sauce on the ravioli was thick and rich and each ravioli had just enough filling. I enjoyed this one very much.
For the short ribs (6 pcs), they were fine but with the $16 price, I didn't really think it was worth it. To compare, a lobster roll with fries in Toronto is around that price. The grilled salmon was a tad over. The server said if we came back next time, we could ask for it to be cooked less.
This location is not my first time there. The food has always been good. I know they been doing ongoing renovation and changes to improve the venue. The only thing they should pay attention to is the furniture that they have at the restaurant. There were 5 of us there and all five chairs at our table all had very noticeable still on them, anyone can easily till those stain been on there for a while. Any other than that, GREAT PLACE to take your family or friends.
Will definitely return.
Our experience started on a high note. We were seated right away and our server seemed very friendly. However it took a while for him to take our orders and he wasn't very knowledgable about the menu. My associate was looking for gluten-free and he only offered the one item on the menu that was marked gluten-free and seemed unaware of any other possibilities.
My associate order the Salmon with glue-free sides and it was excellent. I ordered an 8 oz Filet, medium rare, with a shrimp skewers on the side. The filet came out medium and I had to remind the server about the shrimp skewer. The shrimp were good but not great and the steak, although overdone, was quite good.
We went here because we were tired and didn't want to drive. If you're staying at the Hilton and don't want to drive, this would be a good choice. But I think I'll drive next time.
The pizza was no different than a McCain Frozen pizza ... in fact we think that's what is was. And $16.00 for this?? The service was poor. After taking the order and bringing the food, the service virtually stopped. No offer of coffee, dessert etc. And it wasn't more than half full. Very embarssing when your taking a client out for lunch.
