Great food, service and time!
The drinks took a little while to arrive but they were spot on, well worth the wait. There was only one bartender and it was quite busy. Our waiter was friendly and experienced. He explained all dishes answered all our questions and provided excellent service. We had the New Zealand salmon and the rib eye steak. The salmon was mild but very good and the steak was a bit thin and quite fatty but cooked to perfection.
Had another enjoyable evening thanks to our great service and delicious food at Esquire. Timed our service to accommodate our crest theatre program at 7:30. No rush. Just pleasant service and time for coffee and dessert all fit into the evening. Don’t park in the ramp however. It’s much better to street park and far less expensive, even with validated parking!
It was show night so very loud from 6:30 til 7:45. Then we basically had the place to our selves....Enjoyable.
We had a great time
We were going to the play
My wife and I scheduled dinner at Esquire Grill prior to attending the theatre. Service was very friendly and punctual. Our waiter, Tom B was very welcoming and attentive. Our Ahi poke appetizer was very tasty and well presented. My wife had the New Zealand salmon and I had the double pork chop, from your daily special. Both were very tasty, well presented and superb!
The wine list was well rounded and we both enjoyed Chardonnay with our meal.
We left very satisfied with both our meal and the manner with which we were treated. A grand experience!
Great experience overall. Waiter was very attentive and friendly. My salmon was perfectly cooked! We will be back!
Esquire treated us royally on our anniversary. Cocktails were expertly made. I had the pork chop & my husband had the chicken. Both were juicy, & so good. The French onion soup had a rich broth full of roasted onion flavor & hint of sherry I think with the cheese melted on the toast just right. We finished with champagne & the banana cream pie. Service was attentive without being overbearing. We will be back!
I've been to Esquire Grill several times for work functions and the experience has been great. I took my wife over the weekend and was disappointed with the service.
We both ordered drinks and a small dinner (small salad with chicken for me and mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts for my wife.
After about 15 minutes my salad arrived along with Mac and Cheese for my wife? The waitress apologized and corrected the order, but only after the potatoes were cold. Definitely not the level of service I'd expect based on the menu prices.
We had been looking forward to our meal at Esquire Grill, but unfortunately were very disappointed. We are not food snobs in any way, but the menu was really limited and not very creative. Also, the preparation was mediocre at best. I had the sole, which our server told me was their "signature dish," and it was over cooked to the point of being totally dried out. Just not good! Unfortunately, we won't go back.
Staff is always friendly and professional.
Chefs are creating great seasonal entrees with local ingredients.
nice ambience good service , food was good, presentation good , prices high
The steak was disappointing (lacked flavor) but the salmon special was delish. This is an excellent choice if you want a nice dinner before a show at the community center theatre. It's super close to the theatre, and staff ask beforehand if you're going to see the show to make sure you get served in time. We had reservations at 6:15 pm which gave us plenty of time to eat for the 8:00 show. Noise level was high; it was packed. But we could hear each other okay. Overall, a good choice.
Esquire Grill is one of. the few FINE dining locations in Sacramento. Everything was wonderful
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the great service!
Great food, service and ambiance. Love eating here before attending the Sacramento theater.
We had a great time. The weather was dreadful and traffic was miserable but they held our reservation and made my 60th birthday fun and relaxed after all the stress. The food was fantastic and the drinks and wine from the bar are awesome.
Went to Esquire Grill before a play at the Community Center. Our reservation was at 5:30 to ensure that we would make the show on time. We did not have to wait too long for our food. The salmon was cook perfectly and the linguini was al dente, as it should be. Our server, Kristina, was very attentive. The only negative is that the restaurant gets quite loud as the tables start to fill. The Esquire Grill will always be my go-to before a show and reservations will always be made for early dining so that there is no rush to the theater.
Our waitress did a good job of meeting our needs. We got seated quickly!
I was surprised at the noise level but everything else was excellent. One of the best servers we have had anywhere in along time.
We were going to the Convention Center to see a musical and the location is perfect! We had a fabulous, attentive server who was treated us well! He made great suggestions for the entire meal - from the cocktails to the dessert. We never felt rushed but also we felt appreciated.
We love the valet parking.
Esquire Grill is one our my favorite places and when I am at the airport - it is the only place I go for a meal.
Will definitely be back. The entire meal was excellent. Great value for my money - always!
Food was good but service was a little off.
Quality of the food is slipping...
We had a wonderful experience at Esquire Grill. It’s one of our favorite restaurants in Sacramento. The service (ask for O’Malley) and the atmosphere were outstanding. Our goat cheese and pear appetizer was so good we scraped the plate clean. The lemon drops are the best in town.
We had the linguine and prawns and the New York strip steak for our main course. My only complaint was my steak was a bit tough. It had a wonderful flavor though and the sides were delicious. Unfortunately we had no room for dessert.
All in all a fantastic experience. We will be back.
Great location next to the theatre. Food was good (we both had lentil soup and petrale sole) but service was a bit slow. We would have ordered appetizers but our server didn’t come back to check on us. Also slow with bringing a second drink. The valet worked out great with the show!
We had dinner at Esquire Grill last night before attending a show at the Community Center. We were running late for our reservation and called twice to delay it 15 minutes each time amd were accommodated quite graciously. Our dinner was excellent. I had the Shrimp Pasta and my wife had the Patrale Sole. Both were delicious. We had the Chocolate Bombe for dessert which was delicious. Service was superb! I would certainly return and try other items.
Enjoy the food. We dine here before every play. This last time way nosier. Love your sole 😍😍
Pre-theater valet parking very helpful. A bit noisy but excellent food.
Dined with my husband on a Wednesday evening before going to a performance at the Community Center across the street. Used their valet parking which stays open for theater-goers. We enjoyed our meals of bavette steak and grilled salmon which were perfectly cooked. Both came with spinach and potatoes. We each had a great glass of wine and shared a banana cream pie dessert. Yum! Our server was very busy as the place was packed with theater-goers and also the Kings were playing a home game. Because of this, the restaurant was somewhat noisy, but it didn't affect our enjoyment of the meal.
We had a very nice dinner prior to seeing Book of Mormon. Very good and timely service, quite attentive. Best we have had there in years.
another wonderful experience at Esquire Grill
my favorite table was ready for me along with Richard an exceptional server
Always a pleasure to dine at Esquire. The food is good, the atmosphere is warm and comfortable, and our server Kristina is a gem. Always attentive to her customers, a problem solver when things are not quite right with a meal (a rare occurrence), and just a very nice person. Mr. P should be very proud to have loyal staff members, like Kristina, Kevin and others we have met over the years.
The food is always excellent, service very attentive. My go to for a quiet but great meal when I travel. Best MASHED POTATOES ever.
Pan fried filet of Sole perfect, large portions.
Always a winner!!’
The lamb shank special was amazing. Great taste, perfectly prepared. Absolutely loved it. Andrea was great and overall the service was excellent. Only hiccup came with the drinks - one person made clear they wanted a regular/plain old lemon drop and was told that would be the house special - which had pomegranate. My dirty martini had no olive juice. Andrea took care of getting the drinks corrected. Risotto with butternut squash was excellent. And really appreciate that the staff was attentive to our time constraint. First question was - are you attending the show tonight? Much appreciated. Finally, there was no valet due to a mix-up. The restaurant gave us a $10 voucher so that our parking in the garage was the same price as had we used valet. That was really nice of Esquire to cover. Will definitely return!
The appetizer & entrees were delicious! But the sides that came with the entrees were odd choices & tiny. There were more stems than broccolini. And my date's farrow was watery. I've made farrow & that is wrong. Good thing we were there to enjoy ourselves no matter what because our waiter was so bad. We didn't even find out his name . He handed us our bill paper clipped to a review card (Classy!) and said he needed all the help he could get. I can't disagree with him. Not even a leather bill holder or tray! He never smiled either. I wanted to ask for a different section right off the bat. Such a contrast to the fabulous service we got at Ruth's Chris.
While my wife's dinner was very good, my prime New York steak was very poor quality with considerable gristle throughout. A comment to the wait staff was ignored.
Excellent meal and time before Jesse Cook at Crest!!!
Great food & service! Reasonable wine markup. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner!
Dinner before Giselle at Sacramento Ballet. We both had the winter squash soup -- very tasty -- and stuffed eggs that were nothing special. I had a pork chop: huge and perfectly cooked. Esquire Grill seems to scrimp on the veggies; what was on my plate was nowhere near a standard "serving." My friend tried the special: prosciutto-wrapped cod -- a weird choice for her and for the restaurant. Her comment: What was the point?
A final note: the coffee was awful.
