Food and service not up to par. Seemed overwhelmed with Valentines Day.
Best pomegranate lemon drops ever!!! The food was seriously outstanding. Every dish was delicious. Absolutely loved the little gem salad and the fried brussels sprouts too!
They did a nice job with the crowds, but service was a bit slow in regards to even getting water upon first arriving. Food was wonderful and server was polite.
The customer service, waiter, manager, food ambience, was EXCELLENT!!!!!! Also made sure we were out in time for our show.
Good server, very genuine.
One of the best meals we’ve had in Sacramento. From the salad to entree and dessert!! We’ll be back!!
Excellent food and attentive service. Able to talk and hear each other. I’d return any time.
Our server was not warm and friendly
Our food was fair, not what it used to be.
Friendly staff, but noise level a bit too loud
Our server was delightful! We wanted to take our time, and she did a great job of spacing things out. The sole was amazing, and the pasta special was very good. Sat in the back room, so noise was not an issue. Menu was limited, however we enjoyed our meals very much.
Restaurant was great. Food was excellent. Service was superb. However, it was quite dark. Need to turn the lights up a bit more. I like to see the person across the table
Food was very good, but nothing special. Overpriced in my opinion.
This place should have 3 dollar signs, NOT two. We came here because it was next to the Sacramento Theater. Our waiter was horrible, and he was not familiar with the menu. Our waiter tried to argue with us when I pointed out that he forgot to bring the crackers (crostini) with the Burrata appetizer. Our food took a very, very long time... about an hour from ordering time until the entree arrived. We were starving and had to get up and chase our waiter down to ask for a bread basket, which he reluctantly brought to us. The prices were horribly expensive, and the "half chicken" was about the size of a chicken wing, so it was obviously a Cornish game hen, and not really what you would expect from a half chicken entree. The pasta was a rip off, and the sauce tasted sour, like worse than Ragu, and no parmesan cheese or fresh pepper was offered. The hamburger was good, and dessert was delicious, but everything was ridiculously overpriced. I will not come back here again.
The food at Esquire Grill is on point. Very well prepared and presented. After a few experiences to the restaurant I will not return, because the service does not match the caliber from the kitchen.
Excellent atmosphere, service and food. The service was especially good.
Kiddy so/so. Near convention center, but probably won’t go again. Too many really good restaurants in Sacramento
We enjoyed Esquire Grill. Food was excellent. Service not so good. Our main courses came out while we were still having our salads. Salads were a longer wait. We were just drinking water and no one came to refill the glasses. Had to finally ask someone who was re-setting a table near by and told us to wait until they were finished. Our main waiter never appeared again after giving us the mail course so couldn't order dessert or coffee in a timely manner. We had to leave for a concert. It was a Saturday night and busy. We enjoyed the food very much and other than being quite noisy, the ambiance is pleasant.
Manager came over acknowledging our birthday celebration and took pictures for us to take home. Cool!
Not that great this visit.
I have been to the Esquire Grille a couple of times. This visit was somewhat poor.
Our server was adequate, but somewhat rude and impatient. I was with my in-laws and my parents (both of which are in their 70s and a little slow and particular on ordering). However, much of Esquire's clientele looked to be in the past 50s set, and his impatience with the older clientele made me uncortable.
The food gets mixed reviews. The steak was excellent and my father-in-law raved about it. My roasted half chicken looked like a quarter of a chicken, was served lukewarm and was close to $30. Definitely not worth it.
I have been here before and it was MUCH better, perhaps I caught them on a very off night, but think it can be hit or miss here.
Not bad by any means but we left felling like we wished we had gone somewhere else. They were out of their “signature” dish of sole but the place was empty for a Saturday. It was a last minute reservation and know I know why there were availabilities.
Delicious dirty Tito's martini! Surprised that they were out of petrale sole and the pasta special by 6:30ish, but it was a packed restaurant with pre-theater goers. The deviled eggs were nothing to write home about. They were fine, but nothing special. All the flavor came from the bacon bits. The butternut squash soap was very good. The steak tartare was good, and plenty for a meal. Would recommend trying.
I thought my entre, grilled king salmon, was just delicious with the mashed squash and grilled cauliflower. However, I thought my serving was very skimpy. Would have loved several more bites. Also we were told that there would be valet parking. My friend and I are 80 and having to drive up the parking garage wasn’t appreciated.
Great before the Symphony. Usually there is valet parking.
We ordered the 3 Course Dine Downtown tasting menu.
The appetizers and main courses were spectacularly delicious.
Dessert was good enough, but nothing special.
For $35, this was a terrific value!!!
The food, service and ambience were very good. Plenty of farm to fork meals to choose from. A well run bar and friendly service staff makes this a great place.
Overall v good food well prepared and presented service a bit slow but efficient and friendly
Came for dining downtown.
I was disappointed that my bass was cold when it got to me.
I am guessing that they prepare most dishes ahead of time and warm up before.
They brought me a new dish immediately, but I was disappointed to think that my meals was banquet style rather than cooked to order.
Food was delicious. This is not the place to come in for a quick meal. Take your time and enjoy, you'll be here a while.
This is one of our favorite restaurants to visit. We live out of town and don't get to come as often as we used to. The meal was ok, but my husband and I both walked away commenting on the price of the meal compared to what we had eaten. We expected it to be pricey because it is a bit of an upscale place, but the quality of the food didn't match the ticket price this go 'round. We will still visit again, and maybe next time we'll order the steak and not the chicken.
We were a older couple looking for dinner before a show; great find; wait staff was very aware of our time schedule and made an effort to ensure everything went smooth during the service. Our meals we prepared to perfection, farm fresh ingredients handled with respect. We would recommend to diners that have a refined palate, or anyone looking for a higher end dinning experience. You must try the roasted cauliflower appetizer, fantastic!
For the most part, I enjoyed my visit to Esquire Grill; however, I was a bit disappointed by the fact that we had to wave down our server to get simple things like water. Also, our soup was cold when it arrived, and the desert initially presented to us was not what we'd ordered. Still, the food was tasty (with well-balanced flavors), and the presentation was appealing.
We dined during the Dine Downtown Sacramento event. The three course $35 dinner was not supposed to be a trio tiny tasting menu. Each course was 30% the size of a dinner menu appetizer, main and dessert. Having dined at other restaurants during the Dine Downtown event, their platings were standard sizes and in fact quite filling. In addition our waiter was initially dismissive of us ordering the Dine Downtown menu, although he did warm as the dinner went on. We were so turned off my how the Esquire Grill participated in this dining event , that it colored our evening and I doubt we will return to the Esquire Grill.
Great service! My mom and I had a wonderful time. We got the sole and a burger. Everything tasted perfect.
I try to save the Esquire Grill for those special occasions when I'm going to be in downtown Sacramento. Our last visit did not disappoint as we enjoyed our meal prior to going to see the Sacramento Theatre presentation, Shen Yun. I am both gluten and dairy-free and the chefs were able to accommodate my diet easily. I enjoyed the king salmon over a bed of fingerling potatoes and vegetables. The glaze on the top of the grilled salmon was especially yummy and I'm going to try to make it here at home. I look forward to going back for another delicious meal at the Esquire Grill.
good place to go especially if you are seeing an event at either community theater or convention center.
For those purposes really convenient and atmosphere and food are good. Service was very good. Food was good but not exceptional.
The food was phenomenal as usual
It was a dimly lit ambiance. The waygu steak was tasty and a small severing as expected. My dinner date really enjoyed the burger. It was nice don’t drink but, seemed to have many wine/scotch options.
Our first trip to community theater and appreciate how close it was to the theater.
Great lunch spot before the theater. Always gets our food out quickly. Staff is very attentive to our needs. Thank you!
Very enjoyable meal. Taste excellent. Would like more vegetarian options so I can take friends who have special needs.
