About Espetus Churrascaria - San Mateo
Espetus Churrascaria is a Brazilian steakhouse. This restaurant began in 2003, as an homage to the Brazilian cowboys who would cook each night by roasting meat over an open flame. Today, this form of dining has evolved to a totally unique culinary experience. Guests at Espetus are seated with a red and green painted wood block on the center of the table. If the diners are hungry, they place the green side face up and servers will come by with a wide array of grilled dishes on skewers. Whenever they are hungry, they simply flip the block to red.
Espetus has an extremely large and varied menu for guests to enjoy. Guests can enjoy items like sirloin steak, top sirloin, filet mignon, flap steak, grilled chicken, marinated shrimp, rum-soaked pineapple, pork belly, flame-grilled bison and many more. Espetus also has a cold bar with items like rolls and pasta.

Espetus Churrascaria in San Mateo hosts Caipi-hour every Wednesday and Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. In the restaurant’s lounge, guests can enjoy, with the purchase of a cocktail, a complimentary sampling of hors d' oeuvres. Bar specials priced at just $6.00 include such cocktails as a Caipirinha and a Brazilian Mojito. In addition, there is live musical entertainment without a cover charge.

We were seated in the section by the bar. It was quiet in the area and we had all the meats come to our table. If there was anything that we didn't have, we would just ask and they would bring the meat to our table. The pineapple is my favorite! I also like the filet mignon, Pork belly, flank steak and garlic steak and Parmesan cheese Pork. It's all good!
This is my second visit to Espetus. The first time was for lunch and this time was for dinner. Outstanding service and food just like the first time. This has quickly become my favorite restaurant! A little on the pricey side for dinner but well worth every penny.
The very hospitable and friendly environment stood out! There was an incident when I dropped my knife, I didn't even have to ask for one, someone saw and in an instant, I was provided with a new one. That is superb customer service! Plus, it was my birthday during the visit, my family was so curious on how many times the gauchos sing happy birthday in a day, so we asked, we expressed that we didn't want to put them through another one since we heard them sing it 5 times already, to my surprise, they still sang me a happy birthday, and was told, next time, I'll bring everyone to sing u a happy birthday! It was a great experience! Have been referring this place to everyone I know!
Took dad here for his birthday on a Wednesday evening. No wait upon check in, we were seated right away after confirming our reservation. Excellent service throughout the night! I'd definitely suggest the filet mignon, top sirloin, and the grilled pineapple! Yum!!
The food is outstanding and the atmosphere, service and wait is excellent. The Churasscia style cut beef is the best in the peninsula. The salad bar offers a wide variety of salads with all the compliments. The price is just right for the amount food served. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
This is my third dining experience at Espetus Churrascaria- San Mateo and it still exceeds my expectations. The salad bar displayed more than the typical mixed greens and olives, such as pita bread, baba ghanoush, other hot dishes. The selections of meats were vast and perfectly seasoned. Although my body has a slight intolerance with pineapples, I couldn't stop myself. They were definitely worth it! If you can, make room for dessert because all of them taste great! Lastly, Rafael (hope that is the correct spelling) was an outstanding waiter. He was very attentive and always made sure that our requests were fulfilled --i.e. the pineapples and celebrating my brother's birthday. Thank you for an amazing dining experience yet again!
I like Espetus a lot thenonlyvyjing that I got little frustrated is that I requested a well done meat when we got there . Took very long time for them to start serving us meat and when they came they still didn't have wel done meat. We talked to the manager and he explained that well done takes longer what I understand I am gaucha and was born eating Brazilian barbecue but when they brought the meat again to our table was literally burned. well done doesn't mean burned! So I got disappointed because was a special occasion and for the price that they Charge they should have more experienced people working there. But overall I enjoyed.Hope my review won't be undue stood as negative actually is just a hint for you guys to make better next time. Te people there is great , the atmosphere and the feijoada was delicious!
Espetus is a meat lover's heaven! This Brazillian Churrascaria is different from a steakhouse because you can sample all types of steaks, pork delights, and chicken skewers to your heart's content. Coupled with a sumptuous salad bar, you really feel you get your money's worth.
Restaurant had several large (8+) parties while we were there. Unfortunately, this seemed to lead to our table missing out on meat service. I believe that I read that there were supposed to be 17 different types of meats - NO WAY. IF we received 10 different meats, I would be surprised. We had to constantly ask our waitress for meat service. Just not what I expected. :-(
This has been the 5th time that I have been here. The food is always good and for those of us who have friends who are eating low carb or paleo, this is the place. Sorry vegetarians, if you don't like the smell of meat, this is not the place for you. The service is excellent and the selections are plenty. If you have room for dessert at the end, there are some tasty options.
Everything was fine until the table next to us were too talking super noisy, noisy was fine but topic were super annoying, none of the hosts make effort to tell them off. Ours seldom attend to us. Which make me feel the whole experienced were not worth the price i paid.
Good meat & meet... IMHO the place is more suitable for larger parties or groups and less for those seeking an intimate or romantic dinner. Food at the salad bar is OK and the meets do come at an amazing pace... maybe covering that they are just OK? Deserts are forgettable. Still the experience is in par or above other Brazilian steak places in the Bay Area.
I cannot say enough great things about the food served here - the meats are cooked to perfection, and seasoned beautifully...the servers are attentive and knowledgeable...the only thing of which to be aware is the cost...this is an expensive meal, so we save it for special occasions :))
Impressed with the abundant salad bar and the variety of meat offerings, however, all the meat I tried was very salty and the only items I did not try were lamb and heart (could have been kidney, not sure). Sausages were spiced okay but very dry.
I was looking forward to the Paella at the salad bar, but sadly it was not offered on the Thursday night I visited and so I tried the Rice with Chicken, tasty but dry, same with the fish ... very dry.
I've tried Churrascaria before and the variety at Espetus is much better, although the saltiness is harsh.
The only other comment is about the $30 corkage fee ... REALLY! It's just not that great of a place (service wise or food quality) to charge $30.
The beef selections were delicious, particularly the ribeye. However, the other meats weren't great, particularly the garlic pork, which was very dry and over-seasoned. The sides also aren't great. I wish it weren't the case since the beef was so good, but for the money, I'd rather go somewhere else.
I used to enjoy coming to Espetus and thought the highlight was the wonderful salad bar. I've been 3 times this year and it has fallen short on all 3 occasions. In the past there was a wide selection of salads, both the quality and variety is no longer up to par. I will be going to different restaurants to celebrate special occasions.
This was for a special occasion and everything had a great time, the place is very nice, and the waiters were all so nice, and the food was wonderful, overate but don't do it too often, so it was worth it. I would definitely come back and refer my friends to this place, very nice, thank you.
If you have never had Brazilian bbq--you must go. It is $60 per head for dinner--all you can eat--cheaper for lunch. Our night, there were 13 cuts of meat, including sirloin, ribs, flat steak, picanha, filet mignon, ribs, sausage, chicken legs, and the American favorite, chicken hearts. The meat is brought to your table on huge skewers. If you want a piece of that meat, the waiter cuts a piece off and tou grab it with a pair of tongs and place it on your plate. BBQed pineapple was served as well. There is a salad bar, but it is not a place for vegetarians. The meat is as good as any I have ever tasted.
