We were pleasantly surprised with this gem of a find. Having recently returned from a trip
to Barcelona Spain we felt like we were transported right back there, Friendly, helpful staff,
we were not rushed and enjoyed the whole experience. Look forward to returning again and
Really enjoyed our visit. Don't be deceived by the exterior. Interior is very large including a back room for bigger parties. I could have done without the live singer (reminded me of an Italian restaurant thing) though he was excellent, I just didn't need the noise level given it's a small front dining room. Staff was friendly and helpful. Wine list not so great but worked. Food was all excellent. My 8-year old son scarfed down the skirt steak. (P.S. this place is not really kid-friendly - no kids menu, his skirt steak was an adult entree and priced accordingly).
My wife and I had lunch featuring a terrific salad that easily serves two, a main special of chopped, a savory garlic soup, and breaded mussels in a bechamel sauce that was ambrosia-like, the best Manhattan ever, and finally a marvelous tres leches delicious when you ask for some extra sauce. That was all we could eat even though we had three other tapas items that we planned to order. We'll definitely be baack to try them. I also must praise the service and the attentiveness of the owner who provided a quiet table and even adjusted the heat to make us totally comfortable.
Amazing food, great ambiance, and authentic Spanish tapas cuisine! Not to mention the BEST red sangria you will find on all of Long Island. Julio is the most gracious owner and host. Highly recommended!
Love Espana. Food and service are always top notch.
My husband and I are regulars here. Julio and his staff are the best! Friendly, courteous service. Free entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. We don't have any complaints about the food - always consistent and great! Give Espana a visit, you won't be disappointed!
Always creative and delicious tapas; friendly attentive servers; love this gem
Our first time there, service was attentive and friendly, food authentic and delicious. We will be back
Excellent food and service. Owner was attentive to make sure we enjoyed our visit. at first I thought the sax music was a little loud but realized it was perfect to keep anyone from overhearing another tables conversation. was perfect.
Very nice place. Service was excellent. Food was plentiful. We will go back again. So nice to have live music during dinner. Delicious coffee freshly made!
We were so impressed with everything from the ambience, service and the delicious food. We will be back. Every dish was better than the other. Never had stuffed muscles but so delicious and creamy. The restaurant looks small from the inside but actually very big but quaint. Real authentic food feeling like your in Spain
Food never fails to be delicious. Loved the live music too (on Thursday evening's). The guitar only adds to ambiance.
Everything we had, from sangria to cappuccino, was excellent. Good value, too - our bill came out to only about $100. Service was so-so — our waitress was initially attentive and then seemed to forget about us for the rest of the time. Acoustics not great, especially when live music factored in - hard to carry on a conversation above the din. Owner was a rock star, trotting all over the place to make sure customer needs were met and checked in with us to make sure all ok. Would definitely go back, but perhaps during a quieter time.
Clearly all of the positive reviews must come from family and friends of the owner since this place was absolutely awful! I should have known we were in trouble when we were given a bowl of potato chips upon being seated. Last I checked, Wise does not specialize in authentic Spanish cuisine. If you've ever had good, authentic tapas you will know that this is not it! One plate we ordered was Potatos Bravas - which when done properly is outstanding. At Espana it was french fries with a mild spicy drizzle of some pink sauce. I think I saw someone eating a similar dish at the diner down the street, only theirs looked more appetizing. The Crab Gratin tasted like something that was re-heated from a party where the host served frozen appetizers from Costco. (Actually Costco would have been an upgrade!). The rest of the alleged tapas plates were "eh" at best. Then came the dessert, as if our meal couldn't get any worse. I mistakenly ordered the caramel flan, no...it was the sponge cake...no it was the flan..wait a minute, what WAS it?!?!?! Oh that's right, I ordered caramel flan which was lumpy and spongey and tasted like they just soaked a kitchen sponge in sugar. Not impressed. Will never return. They should change their name as they are deceiving the public by calling themselves a tapas restaurant.
DISAPPOINTED ! Had read many great reviews about Espana and looked forward to be together with some good friends for a nice evening. The waitress seemed to be a little preoccupied, but read off her list of apps and specials. We chose the meat and cheese platter that was recommended. It was OK, perhaps a little overpriced for the amount served.
Looked forward to my favorite garlic soup. Sadly it was more like a chicken broth.
Two of the main courses were paella that were large and very hot looked great but lacked flavor and spice. Kind of disappointing .
One of the specials was a red snapper. It appeared plated as a shriveled up curlicue.
Upon trying to cut it, it was rubbery. This was returned and the waitress apologized.
The next red snapper was under cooked, raw in the center and had to be returned also.
This time a different choice was sole, that was acceptable.
During this experience we noticed the table next to us returning 2 of there entrees also.
Guess what? It was the fish again. They said the same thing.
We can only guess that the fish was not fresh or it was frozen and not thawed properly.
Certainly a reflection on the chief and his lack of ability to properly prepare food.
After the discussion with the other table, they were surprised that owner was not there but away on vacation which he supposedly never does.
Overall experience was terrible in light of the great reviews that had preceded the experience.
Noise level was moderately high.
Management has a heavy responsibility for training their staff.
Training and trust do not always come easy especially in today's world.
Perfect! (As always). Hospitable, food is always fresh, & we're always looking forward to come back.
Truly delicious and authentic Spanish cuisine! The best waiters and bartenders too. Food was incredible and the drinks unforgettable! Definitely returning soon!
The food was reasonably price and absolutely delicious. The service was awesome and Julio makes everyone feel like a VIP!
Great food, great service. Great attention to detail.
Went to Espana for date night without the kids. The staff was fantastic and accommodating. Our server was a bit slow and seemed to be the only one working the area of the restaurant we were seated in. The owner/manager was great about filling in however and took our order and ran our drinks. The specials for the evening were tremendous and the paella was prepared to perfection. Definitely a laid back dining experience, some of the tapas we ordered took a little longer to prepare but everything was well worth the wait. There was also live Latin music in the bar as we were leaving. I will definitely be returning.
Food was very very good. Nice prices for the amount of food. Sangria was delicious. Live Latin Jazz on this Saturday night was nice.
A great neighborhood restaurant. The service was very good as well as the tapas and the prices are reasonable. The noise level was too much though with the live music. You had to yell at each other to be heard.
Terrific food, always like coming here. Julio is a very hospitable host. Highly recommend!
My wife and I get away here for some one on one time over a meal every now and then. You should too!
Second time dining. Food is always delicious and service is great.
Always delicious. Friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Delicioso! is always what we're saying when we eat here - we've been here often enough where we can confidently say the food is excelente and we recommend this place to others. It is quiet is the earlier in the day (for a Sunday lunch is when we usually go), but does liven up in the evening (Saturday night dinner we've gone as well).
I love the stuffed peppers, lobster croquettes, and coconut flan!
It was a snowy night and the restaurant was empty, but it was nice to have a quiet dinner. We ordered apps and started with a salad for me and Galician soup(caldo Gallego) for my friend. We split boquerones (white anchovies), octopus with paprika & potatoes( pulpo a la feira as I call it), tortilla (Spanish omelette), and croquetas with ham. We each ordered a glass of wine and a small bowl of homemade potato chips was placed before us. The owner? manager ? spoke to us about my opentable request and why they no longer serve sardines. After dinner he was kind enough to offer us a liqueur that was made of herbs and very delicious. Overall we had a fantastic meal and would go back.
We have been here quite a few times and they never disappoint. Loved the lobster croquettes, paella and chicken in vodka sauce are so good. They surprised us by giving us a free dessert that said happy anniversary which I mention when I made the reservation through open table. A diamond in local restaurant in Suffolk county.
This was a last minute dining out find. I've passed by the place many times, and from the outside, it never caught my eye. Looks are deceiving as the inside is actually bigger than it appears from the outside. Based on good on-line reviews we gave it a try and were very happy. The service was excellent. The tapas we tried were all very good. Prices were very reasonable. I expect to be returning.
If I had to pick one area for improvement it is to have some wine pairing suggestions, or even some flights of wine for sampling.
Very good food and attentive service. The food was authentic Spanish.
Our favorite restaurant - never disappoints- food and service is excellent
From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave feel like a family experience. Nice and small an intimate. The best part is watching the owner take ownership and clear tables and help team and make suggestions to new customers. Octopus is wonderful and a must have. Will be back.
I love this restaurant. The food is fantastic and it’s an overall great place. Excellent margaritas.
My wife and I went to this restaurant because we were out in the Stony Brook area. It was my first time there. Walking in, the restaurant has a strong musty odor. I am shocked no other reviewers mentioned it. It was overwhelming. You do get used to it, but I feel bad for anyone exposed to it on a daily basis. The service was very good. Everyone was polite and welcoming. The food however was just fine. The salad had strange pieces of asparagus in it that did not taste right, but we just picked them out. The soup was a pumpkin bisque that was nice. The empanadas were the highlight, they had white meat chicken and egg which was surprising but tasty. The flan was strange, it was more like a dense sponge cake that reminded my wife of her failed flan attempt at making flan. We ate some of the sugary egg syrup. I probably wouldn't go back here and I feel bad saying that because the staff was very nice, sorry.
Been there several times. The food is always delicious and never dissapoibts...the waitstaff is always friendly as well as the owner!! Really worth the trip.
Espana is always an excellent experience! Whether a date, with family or friends. The owner is on site and very, very nice. The food is amazing! Try the mussels! They are the biggest fattest tastiest mussels around anywhere! I have had almost everything on the menu and have not been disappointed.
Food and service are excellent. They also have regular meals if you are looking for more than just a small bite. Price wise they are reasonable
This time somewhat disappointed.
Not up to prior dining experience.
People who were with us were not thrilled and were first time diners.
We will be back as our other dining times were enjoyable.
one of our favorite restaurants
we have never been disappointed by the food or the service
try their white wine Sangria
