Escorpion Ratings and Reviews
We were told upon arriving that they don't take open table reservations, but could seat us. I showed them my reservation on my phone and they said they stopped two weeks ago. Anyway, the hostess seated us at a table next to a large, very loud group. That, combined with the loud music, was awful. We asked to be moved to a table outside. That was ok and the service was adequate. Food ok. Don't accept Discover cards, so my friend had to use his cc. when he checked his account 2 days later, he found they had run his card twice. Got it resolved, but it was annoying. Will definitely not return.
This restaurant was great. The service was beyond amazing and so was the food. I had the chicken quesadilla and my date had the shrimp tacos. We both had a drink as well, which was great. All of their drinks are made with fresh fruit... and they were strong. We were very pleased and we plan on going back soon.
We went to Escorpion after the Atlanta United game. It was a great atmosphere and very festive. The margaritas were great. Try the Escorpion. And the food was great too. We were glad we had made a reservation on Open Table since the wait for walk-ins was 30 minutes at 9:30pm.
The food was good. But for the price, ehhh. What really made me upset is that when I checked my bank account a few days later, the waiter added an extra $10 tip to my bill!! What is that?! There was not a gratuity charge or anything because it was only 2 of us. I don't like shady service. Will not return.
Upscale Mexican food. We have not had a bad meal we have taken over a dozen friends here and co-workers and they all loved it. Grilled shrimp tacos and grilled veggies are a personal fav. If you like tequila you will love this place an impressive and extensive list of tequila and mescal.
Ambiance and food are always solid and we love Escorpion. Love the patio! The server we had provided lack luster service. Rather than him asking if we wanted to have another margarita (our glasses were empty) we had to flag him down to ask for another. Additionally, we were at a small table on the 5th St side, and the server didn't offer to remove empty plates from the crowded table. One of the bar staff who brought our second drinks removed the plates.
We were 4 girls having dinner and at 9:30 pm our server literally came to us and told us that it is time to leave! His reasoning was that "we close early when it's DEAD!" There was our table and another table still dining in the restaurant. The closing time on their door was 10 pm. It seems like they don't want any business and their customers are not important at all because apparently the place was "dead" with 2 tables still dining. I have been in the restaurant business for years and understand closing early if there is no one in my restaurant and not accepting new customers, but kicking people out 30 minutes before closing time is just rude. At first I was very excited about this place, but now I have no interest in going back and being treated so poorly. If they continue like this, their business will remain "dead" at all times...
Food was fine, what we received. When we were seated we had to wait 15 min for our server. We ordered drinks and asked for salsa. When she came to take our food order we once again asked for salsa because we didn't get any. When our food arrived we once again asked the food runner for salsa because we STILL didn't get any. We ate our meals having never received salsa at a restaurant where this is a staple and we requested it 3 TIMES!
My husband and I had dinner before going to the Fox. The staff was professional, efficient, and accommodating. Service was quick and the food was exceptional. I wish we had alloyed more time before the show to enjoy! We had a reservation and were seated immediately. There was a line at the door for people who were going to wing it so I would definitely recommend reservations. Great spot for date night or anything really. We will be back :)
How to Mess Up a Margarita
To be fair, this was an early dinner before a big show at the Fox. So we chose this place for convenience. However, we had been there before and had a good experience. This time not so much. Main issue was the food. We had tacos and enchiladas. Both the shrimp and fish tacos smelled fishy and tasted off. I didn't eat them. The rest just had little flavor. And as for the margaritas? They had a strange, bitter chemical taste. We tried a specialty and then a regular margarita. Both tasted like this. Service was ok considering the servers were running hard to handle theater crowd.
Have eaten at this place a couple of times recently and loved the whole experience both times -- food, service, friendliness, etc. It fired on all cylinders. I think this will become one of our "regular" places in Midtown. The tamales, enchiladas, and quesadillas were all very good. The tamale with the citrus pork in it is going to become one of my favorite comfort foods, I think! And we chatted with the manager about their commitment to the neighborhood and so forth. Loved the whole feel and spirit of the place in addition to the great food.
Staff very friendly we came after a show at the Fox and we arrived early and they were able to seat us immediately. The service was good the food was just average, and the margaritas were served with way too much ice in the glasses which made you feel like you only got a quarter of a drink. Would recommend for people going to a play at the Fox it's only 3 blocks away.
Sat right on time-did not have to wait. There is patio dining if you want. First time here. Cheese Chili Rellanos was very good. Gringos Taco plate was tasty, too! Our server, although very busy, took care of all of our requests in a timely manner. Might be our new "go to" restaurant before/after Fox Theater events.
