It was pleasant but expected a more dramatic view. The scallops and salmon were very good. Service was very good. The dining room was ok but lacked ambiance. Overall expected more and was disappointed.
Spectacular views of the mountains. Very nice menu. Excellent staff.
This is one of Palm Springs' best kept secrets.
If nothing else, go for the view. Really just incredible. Very tranquil spot to have some brunch. Food wasn't bad but wasn't anything special either. Much better suited for those wanting a quiet coffee before or after they have a round of golf.
Great service and wonderful views. We were celebrating our Anniversary.
We made reservations for Mother’s Day Brunch for 5/13/2018 @1:30PM. When we arrived there was nobody at the reception desk. Clearly, there was nobody around and surprisingly it wasn’t even crowded as this is officially offseason. Due to the wind, we decided to sit inside. There were nobody seated outside. After waiting 10 minutes for a table to be cleaned, we sat down when we realized that the hostess wasn’t going to come get us. Again, the staff disappeared. We then waited another 15 minutes and still no service. This was a buffet however, nobody greeted us to show us to the buffet or bothered to take our beverage order. The buffet was picked over and nothing was freshened and or replenished. To charge $49 pp for a buffet that was picked over, leaving only leftovers is unacceptable. Finally, after 30 minutes, out drink order was taken. What a rip off. Clearly, this Buffett was not worth what we paid for. There were 4 of us and the bill came to $212. We will not be going back!
We were not prepared for the overpriced brunch buffet on Mother’s Day, as we were expecting the usual menu. One of us is a vegetarian, so there was literally nothing for him to eat except mixed greens, two pasta salads, mixed fruit, store-bought mini bagels, and Costco desserts. For $49. At least soda was included.
Running a buffet, the staff was not busy at all, but it took 20 minutes for us to get any service.
This restaurant had a Mother's Day buffet. It was ridiculously over priced for the quality of food they served.
This is the last time I intend to go back to Escena. Over the years it started out being one of my favorite places, but has gone through so many changes in management that the service and quality of food has gone downhill. I couldn't finish my meal because it was so tasteless.
Probably one of the most spectacular views you can get in Palm Springs! Unfortunately the food isn't as spectacular as the views are. They certainly try but the menu lacks imagination and even execution on the items that are offered. You would think they would get a top notch chef to match the beauty of the restaurant, outdoor seating area and of course the view. If only the food were a little better you would have trouble getting a reservation here. Servers are okay but they could use a little more training. Do give them a try but keep your expectations low. Sunday brunch is very popular and the smoked salmon plate is a deal!
Last recent visit for lunch was very disappointing. Service and ambiance was as pleasant as always. Food however, was not up to par. Two of us had the fish and chips and they were dry and thick battered, very little fish. They appeared to be deep fried once, then deep fried a second time when ordered as the coating was very brown and overly dried/crunchy. Other two guests had cheeseburgers and they were satisfied. I have had fish and chips there on other occasions and they were satisfactory. I don't mind that they are likely frozen, but at least they could be cooked fresh and properly. I will give the place another try to make sure that our recent disappointment was just a fluke.
Unexpectedly, there were not that many diners there. Unfortunately, the scallop entree I had wasn’t as tasty as it was a few weeks ago. And, the wait staff wasn’t as eager to serve as they usually are.
Had a wonderful lunch at Encena with friends from out of town. The food was great and the waiter was very attentive. We loved the most spectacular view of the mountains from Palm Springs.
Food is consistently good at Escena an service is consistently indifferent. You're never made to feel welcome, either by the hostess or server.
The restaurant has one of the most beautiful outdoor settings in the Coachella Valley with gorgeous, sweeping views of the mountains. Have been here at least 10 times and always enjoyed the food but on this visit the food was VERY disappointing, not sure if just a bad night or a new chef but would be reluctant to go back.
Perfect place to have an early dinner. Have been there five times they never disappoint.
It's unfortunate that the Escena Grill management refuses to make adjustments to the service level and menu despite feedback from some of their most loyal customers. The menu does not change, and service at dinner is miserable. The servers do not consider large parties and even ask to split the check, and then are frustrated when a table requests them to do so. Last night, we sat for 15 minutes before we were even greeted by the server for drinks--and there were 3 tables filled in the entire restaurant. In January, they got rid of their "summer" menu and replaced it with the "Winter" menu, which was just the removal of 3 items to be replaced by similar/similar tasting dishes. Come for the view at brunch/lunch, but don't waste your time for dinner. In fact, overall, there are plenty of better places to eat in Palm Springs that won't have you waiting to be greeted. And this is consistent time and time again, so not a one time issue.
Stunning views. Great food, much improved from a few years ago. Always enjoy taking friends visiting PS from out of town. A must in Palm Springs.
Great - wonderful spot and good food.
The menu could use a boost. Does not seem that it has changed since we last went. It's a great place for a business meeting. Nice view but lacks that wow we are happy your here vibe.
Escena has the best view in Palm Springs. Great spot, especially at sunset. The food is usually quite good (I've eaten here several times) but my recent dinner was a little disappointing. The bacon-wrapped scallops were on the dry side, as if they'd been sitting under a heat lamp too long. My companion's filet was excellent. Good selection of wines by the glass at reasonable prices. I'll return, just hoping my next visit matches the food on previous occasions.
Four of us decided to go for dinner before seeing a show. We made reservations for 5:30 and the show began at 8. After being seated, we waited for about 15 minutes for anybody to come to our table. We finally had to ask for our server to take our drink order. The food was very good but the service was terrible. It looked like they had 1 server for the entire restaurant. We were running out of time, so we had to ask for the check even before dessert was delivered. If you go, allow yourself a lot of time for dinner. The food is good but the service in not. I will not go back because of the service.
This place has a nice view and the food is good. However, this is the first time I've tried it since several months ago. Service leaves a lot to be desired. The receptionist at the front desk had no personality and you could barely hear her when she spoke. The table we were taken to was not completely clean, and we had to ask twice for napkins and silverware. The waiter was nice but spoke in a weird way that was creepy. Just not competitive with the rest of the restaurants in town.
I made this reservation based on a search for great restaurants in the Palm Springs area with a great view for the Easter outing with my family while we were on vacation. Upon arriving we were told our table was “ready” and we’re pointed to a table right outside. The table was dirty, not ready, had no silverware, and we had to ask for service after sitting there for awhile. It was clear that even though we were dressed up for the Easter brunch we weren’t the right type of people that deserved attention or good service. We definetly didn’t look like the average Country Club demographic and therefore were treated as such. The waiter asked us for our drink orders and that’s it. We had to ask where we go to get our food for the buffet brunch. No help and no service. It’s horrible, horrible, horrible that people still act this way. The nicest people at this place were the 2 guys making the omelettes, they were the only ones that even interacted with us. Considering we paid $55 each person it was 100% not worth it. I would never go back nor would I reccomend anyone I even remotely like go here to eat. I can’t believe that people still treat people like this in this day and age.
We are so happy they went back to serving a Brunch. All of the food was very good to excellent.
Shrimp/crab balls/crab claws/salmon/ham/prime rib and all of the salads and potatoes entries.
Had a lovely birthday dinner.
The only thing I would recommend is a wider selection of the dinner entrees. But everything else was great, service was perfect! I was also happy that my planned surprise birthday dessert for my husband worked out well.
Always a nice evening. We dine here frequently and always enjoy ourselves
Although the service was not quite up to par this time, I still plan to go back. Escena doesn't have the largest menu but everything on it is scrumptious and enough items to vary your choices. Try the Pancetta wrapped scallops. The BOMB!
We had to practically beg for service. After 15 minutes of waiting a waiter, while running by, yelled "have you been helped yet?". It didn't really get better.
Food- very very average. Thank God for the view!
Special setting..food good and consistent. Our waiter could use a few weeks of ‘charm school’ and proper table service.
Waiters in the bartenders are incredible. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I have never seen a restaurant manager work hard .
The food was good and fairly priced but the service was so slow it ruined the experience.
Some of the worst service I’ve experienced a long time. Our waiter came back twice. Constantly had empty water glasses. He seemed like he did not want to be there. The views were the only thing that saved it. Probably will not go back
I've had lunch at Escena a few times after golf and the food has been very good. Our dinner this evening was also good. We all had bacon wrapped scallops. Ample serving and very tasty. The view is lovely, especially for a golf enthusiast. Good service too!
Service was very slow. The table next to us was never cleared for the 2 hours we were there. We heard other tables complaining about their wait times and when their food arrived, it was not hot. Too bad because this would be a gem of a place with the desert' s best patio but we will think hard before trying it again.
Great staff and service even though it was busy!
Extremely poor service-usually first rate-it took 1 1/2 hours for a dinner. Waiter was absent for 30 minutes.
Enjoyed dinner and choices. Service a bit slow. Good ambience.
I’ve dined here before, but although the food was good the restaurant seemed under staffed. The hostess was turning the tables and reused placemats used by previous diners. The server was so rushed he misunderstood our order and split my husband’s salad although we didn’t ask for it. If I dine there again it won’t be during high season.
Escena's scenic view and food were excellent, but the service was quite slow the evening we were there.
