Escena Lounge & Grill Ratings and Reviews
The ambience is exceptional. The food is consistently good, and the service is consistently poor.
Waiting 10 minutes to be acknowledged by the server is unacceptable. It was 15 minutes before we got our soft drinks, and we had to ask 3 times before getting a refill.
It’s sad that the servers aren’t properly trained.
They don’t seem to have a clue what they’re doing.
...and most them have been there for years!
This was my first experience at Escena. I'm local but had out of town relatives in tow. I booked Escena mainly for the view. But I was pleasantly surprised at the whole experience. Our waiter was efficient but not intrusive at all. In fact, one of the better waiters I've had in a long time. The food was good. Not a lot of choices on the dinner menu, but enough to satisfy any taste. The sun set during our meal and the patio heaters worked perfectly to chase off the chilly night. The view is outatanding. My guests commented several times how much they enjoyed the experience.
This is simply the most beautiful place in Palm Springs to sit outside and have breakfast or lunch. The view is spectacular. About a year ago the food was actually good, but in the last three or four months it has taken a serious turn for the worse. The chefs salad looks like a package salad you would buy from the supermarket shelf and the kitchen simply cannot provide a medium rare burger, they cook them to death and the sliders are the absolute worst. The food has declined so much that I just don’t want to go back again.
Terrible. We arrived and waited a bit before anyone in the place acknowledged us. And even longer before what would be called a hostess arrived. Our server came and seemed rushed and very busy. He was polite, but not very helpful. We ordered a bottle of wine which was good. We ordered some oysters and a house salad to start. The oysters came out with couple wedges of lemons, but with no oyster fork or the offer of any other condiments. The tray was placed on the table and the server quickly whisked away to another table. The house salad was mediocre at best with a generic dressing. Unable to locate our server, I approached a bartender and requested some hot sauce which was promptly given. At this point, we decided that even with a pleasant atmosphere, the food so far at the prices being charged was not worth an attempt at an entree. We politely paid our bill, took our half bottle of wine and went elsewhere. I would suggest this golf course restaurant is more for a bite and a drink after 18 holes and not for a nice evening meal of any quality.
Our server ignored us when we were the only table in the restaurant. He only came to our table twice, to take our first drink order and our food order. We were not asked if we wanted another drink - we had to walk up to the bar and order ourselves, twice. Our water was not refilled by our waiter, but the bartender did come and refill when we asked. The prime rib was medium when asked for rare and the other food was tasteless. The asparagus salad came without asparagus and when we brought it to the servers attention he did not apologize or take the food away, instead he brought out a plate of cold asparagus. We spent over $400 and our bill could have easily doubled if the server was attentive in any way. Finally, when we called to tell the manager she was defensive and unapologetic. So disappointed - this place is absolutely not worth the price. Do not go here.
We made a last minute decision to eat here on a recent trip to the area. Unfortunately we arrived on a night where there was a large party in the inside courtyard. We placed our order and were still waiting after 45 minutes for our meals. Just as we had decided to leave and just pay for our drinks our server came out and explained that the big party was taking more resources than they had avaibale at the time. Maybe next time they would let you know as you sit down? We would have been happy to have another glass of wine while we waited and would have understood - instead of letting your customers become irritated with the service.
We were happy when our food arrived. The salmon and braised ribs were awesome! They also had a very good wine list to choose from (including some from Oregon).
We had theatre tickets - this place is usually great for a fast burger and drink - three of us - we ordered two salads, one cup of soup, two sliders and one hamburger. It took nearly 45 minutes (and lots of asking and asking and asking) before ANY food showed up at our table. Won't be returning.
Golfers and golf-like people are the customers. The food was good, but not destination worthy. Especially in Palm Springs.
Seriously, you have to have really good coffee in Seattle, beer in Portland and food in Palm Springs and New York, right? Good, but not great.
Been there for lunch many, many times with clients and friends. Thought the service was extremely slow and especially after we were done and waited over 1/2 hour for the check. Disappointed that Escena felt they had to start charging for their chips / chipolte sauce although it was nominal. Had to ask for a second basket (there were 4 of us) Miss the chicken wraps which you have not had for quite some time. Didn't care for the smoked chicken salad (too bitter). Relatives liked the clubhouse (always good), hamburger, and caesar salad. As an owner of a local business that has brought a cruise line in (Holland) on my suggestion for a breakfast seminar in the side private room, I was disappointed. Sincerely, Donna Ratte, Owner / Cruise Holidays of Palm Springs
We took a friend there on February 7 for his birthday. We sat on the patio and the view of the golf course, water features and mountains in the background were very lovely. The food was very good and our waiter was very good. He even arranged for a birthday brownie to be served to our guest.
Great Job! We will be back.
This was a Tuesday night, and we were the only people in the dining room. A few more were outside. We didn't mind being the only table, however; it was sort of nice. The food was good except the cake, which was very dry. We didn't order a birthday cake, but we were charged for it anyway.
I love coming to this place because it had a great view and the food is pretty good. They have accommodated our large party in the past and allowed for separate checks. I asked specifically before the meal if this was ok and was told it was. The waiter then proceeded to give me attitude, roll his eyes and mutter under his breath.
The food was good, but the service poor. I will think twice before coming again.
Great view which did not disappoint as we ate outdoors. Quick service and good value for portion size. I had the half tuna sandwich which was over loaded with tuna. It kept falling out of the sand wich but was very tasty.
View of the mountains are beautiful and we have eaten here a number of times.
Service was EXCELLENT. We were never left feeling neglected. Food was good temperature and nice presentation. Portions were just right. Limited selection, but what is offered is good. We had the short ribs and the scallops entrees. A little pricey (prime rib was $30 plus $5 for sides) but everything else made up for the cost. The acoustics were GREAT! The room was full, yet we could still hear each other talk without having to shout. The fireplace gave a nice ambiance, and view was peaceful. Nice reflection pool! The chairs were very comfortable and table height was just right. Thanks.
Have been to Escena about five times now and have never been disappointed. When things are crazy in downtown Palm Springs or in Palm Desert, there is no place better than Escena. And even if/when things are NOT crazy there, we still go to Escena. I always bring newbies to PS to Escena because it is a hidden jewel. Keep up the good work. Just had their ribs on Friday and was so pleased, I will have them again...............
