We had an enjoyable meal at this restaurant. It has one of the most beautiful settings in Palm Springs. You see a picturesque golf course with the backdrop of the mountains. The food was very good. The chicken milanese and hamburgers were very tasty. The service was very attentive. We went on a Sunday night so it was not busy. We would like to go back during the day as it was at dusk and we didnt get the full view.

Despite having reservations, the hostess never acknowledged us. She was never at her station, ill-trained or lacked training. She took people who came in after us.We waited 30 minutes before leaving.
One couple upon leaving warned us that it would be at least a 2 hour wait.
Overall it appeared that there was not enough staff.
We had a disappointing experience as did others who left before being seated.
Escena is reputed to outstanding and has the potential to be a terrific dining experience; however it was disappointing and maddening.

It was Saturday of Presidents’ Day weekend and the opening of Modernism Week... the hostess was disorganized and flustered by the crowd. She said she couldn’t seat us for our 1 pm reservation because the kitchen was backed up. I asked how long; she quoted 10-15 minutes. After 20, I asked how soon we could be seated and she said the problem was that they only had three servers. She finally put us at a table but no one even offered water for another 20 minutes. I wondered how they could’ve staffed so poorly and continue to take walk-in diners. I have enjoyed Escena Grill in the past but yesterday’s inefficiency left a bad impression. I won’t be returning any time soon. (By the way, my salmon nicoise salad was delicious but my partner’s chopped salad tasted like cut up cold cuts.)

The ambience is exceptional. The food is consistently good, and the service is consistently poor.

Waiting 10 minutes to be acknowledged by the server is unacceptable. It was 15 minutes before we got our soft drinks, and we had to ask 3 times before getting a refill.

It’s sad that the servers aren’t properly trained.
They don’t seem to have a clue what they’re doing.
...and most them have been there for years!

This was my first experience at Escena. I'm local but had out of town relatives in tow. I booked Escena mainly for the view. But I was pleasantly surprised at the whole experience. Our waiter was efficient but not intrusive at all. In fact, one of the better waiters I've had in a long time. The food was good. Not a lot of choices on the dinner menu, but enough to satisfy any taste. The sun set during our meal and the patio heaters worked perfectly to chase off the chilly night. The view is outatanding. My guests commented several times how much they enjoyed the experience.

This is simply the most beautiful place in Palm Springs to sit outside and have breakfast or lunch. The view is spectacular. About a year ago the food was actually good, but in the last three or four months it has taken a serious turn for the worse. The chefs salad looks like a package salad you would buy from the supermarket shelf and the kitchen simply cannot provide a medium rare burger, they cook them to death and the sliders are the absolute worst. The food has declined so much that I just don’t want to go back again.

Terrible. We arrived and waited a bit before anyone in the place acknowledged us. And even longer before what would be called a hostess arrived. Our server came and seemed rushed and very busy. He was polite, but not very helpful. We ordered a bottle of wine which was good. We ordered some oysters and a house salad to start. The oysters came out with couple wedges of lemons, but with no oyster fork or the offer of any other condiments. The tray was placed on the table and the server quickly whisked away to another table. The house salad was mediocre at best with a generic dressing. Unable to locate our server, I approached a bartender and requested some hot sauce which was promptly given. At this point, we decided that even with a pleasant atmosphere, the food so far at the prices being charged was not worth an attempt at an entree. We politely paid our bill, took our half bottle of wine and went elsewhere. I would suggest this golf course restaurant is more for a bite and a drink after 18 holes and not for a nice evening meal of any quality.

Our server ignored us when we were the only table in the restaurant. He only came to our table twice, to take our first drink order and our food order. We were not asked if we wanted another drink - we had to walk up to the bar and order ourselves, twice. Our water was not refilled by our waiter, but the bartender did come and refill when we asked. The prime rib was medium when asked for rare and the other food was tasteless. The asparagus salad came without asparagus and when we brought it to the servers attention he did not apologize or take the food away, instead he brought out a plate of cold asparagus. We spent over $400 and our bill could have easily doubled if the server was attentive in any way. Finally, when we called to tell the manager she was defensive and unapologetic. So disappointed - this place is absolutely not worth the price. Do not go here.

We made a last minute decision to eat here on a recent trip to the area. Unfortunately we arrived on a night where there was a large party in the inside courtyard. We placed our order and were still waiting after 45 minutes for our meals. Just as we had decided to leave and just pay for our drinks our server came out and explained that the big party was taking more resources than they had avaibale at the time. Maybe next time they would let you know as you sit down? We would have been happy to have another glass of wine while we waited and would have understood - instead of letting your customers become irritated with the service.

We were happy when our food arrived. The salmon and braised ribs were awesome! They also had a very good wine list to choose from (including some from Oregon).

The service was horrible. There was barely anyone at the restaurant and it took over an hour to get a salad and soup for an appetizer. The food was ok, but not worth the long wait for it to arrive. Would not recommend.

We had theatre tickets - this place is usually great for a fast burger and drink - three of us - we ordered two salads, one cup of soup, two sliders and one hamburger. It took nearly 45 minutes (and lots of asking and asking and asking) before ANY food showed up at our table. Won't be returning.

Great steaks! All 5 of us ordered a medium rare steak and they were actually medium rare. Most places over cook them. They were delicious!

Golfers and golf-like people are the customers. The food was good, but not destination worthy. Especially in Palm Springs.

Seriously, you have to have really good coffee in Seattle, beer in Portland and food in Palm Springs and New York, right? Good, but not great.
