Ernest's Orleans Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The food was very tastefully flavorful. The service was outstanding. It's a bit pricey, but for a special occasion such as an anniversary, it is a great place to celebrate. We will definitely go again. Only two downsides ... parking is not good as the lot is not paved and there is a giant hole you have to navigate around just to get into the parking lot, and the dessert we chose (pecan pie) was not up to the standard of the rest of the meal.
I was extremely disappointed in the prices of the food for the amount you got. The online menu is very deceiving, the prices on the online menu is one of the reasons we tried Earnests. The prices on the menu at the restaurant was almost double what was online menu. My daughter ordered a snapper dish that came with a baked potato which was so undercooked that you couldn't even cut into it with a fork, it was not edible. Her plate consisted of a small piece of fish with a baked potato, no salad, nothing else and it was 40.00. I had the small limestone salad which was maybe a half cup of lettuce with a little crab meat for 14 dollars. we both drank water and had small crab claws for appetizers for $20.00 maybe 8-10 crab claws. The best food was the bread they brought out before the meal. Service was good but there were only 3 tables in restaurant. I feel like the menu online should be updated so that you are not shocked by prices when you do go especially if on a budget and going for a special occasion. I will not be going back here again, I can have 3 meals in a nice restaurant for what I paid for 1 meal here.
We traveled to Shreveport for a special occasion and chose Ernest's Orleans because of all the 5-star reviews. The place is cheap; from the ambiance, the outdated decor, and especially the table settings. However, the cost of this place is out of sight. When you spend $200+ for a special dinner, you have the right to expect a $200 + value. The service was terrible, the wine we selected form their white wine list was out of stock (the waiter did not even know it was out of stock) and the food was marginal, at best! If you want to spend a lot of money for terrible service, shabby decor, and over-rated cuisine, then Ernest's Orleans is your kind of place. It was a terribly disappointing restaurant.
First the positive - the valet was super sweet as was the wait staff. Also, the entertainment was really good and the bread was tasty. Now for the negative - the building is very dated and the food is pricey given the portion size. My fish was overcooked and the crab topping had little flavor. Our dessert tasted like store-bought pound cake. I've eaten at much better restaurants in the Shreveport area for a 1/3 the cost!
One of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time! The atmosphere and live music were wonderful and the service and food was second to none!! The owner checked on us personally and was one of the nicest people we've ever met. Everyone there went over and beyond and it did not go unnoticed, we can can't wait to go back! The turtle soup was amazing, definitely the best I've ever had!
Our visit to Ernests was long over due as we frequented this restaurant many time in the past and decided to go again. Our reservation was ready and the receptionist seated us quickly.
The decor has not changed since Ernest moved into the building from downtown riverfront area. Perhaps this is nostalgia. The menu has expanded and also has the original favorites. Our server, Patrick was an energizer but properly allowed our party time to look over the menu even though we knew what we wanted when we walked in the door.
Hot bread and water were served immediately with a brief respite before we ordered our dinner beverages. The food was as always-outstanding and delicious along with being hearty in portions. Our steaks were prepared to order along with a custom addition of lump crab and hot shrimp. Our baked potatoes were actually baked and prepared table-side -again prepared to order. A flaming dessert was served at another table but we just did not have room for an additional course. It looked delicious-will plan for it next time.
We enjoyed our meal and our to go package the next day- We are glad Ernest is still on the hill and will dine here again soon.
Very disappointing to say the least. Was expecting a nice, older restaurant with some style and class. Not even close. For starters, there was no computer so the online reservation was a bit of a joke. Arrived ten minutes early for reservation and seated 20 minutes late despite the more formal side of the restaurant being wide open the entire time. Maitre' de tried to have us eat at the bar! We declined, so he made us wait and then seated us in the noisy cramped bar side of the restaurant anyway at a small table. Of course, he seated those who arrived after us (many of whom had no reservations) in the more formal area. His attitude wasn't the worst part of the evening but should have been a harbinger to what was to come. Wine was way over priced - $60 for a $8 Robert Mondavi bottle (three or four times store prices is usual, not over 7 times). Fish special was unspectacular as was the specialty of the house. I would question their definition of fresh. The restaurant has been there for 60 years which is the last time any updates were done to the exterior or interior. Cheapest forks and knifes you can imagine. Watch out for the pothole bunkers in the parking lot, such as it is. Did I mention the lovely surrounding area? Waiter did his best, I'll give him that. A lousy experience to say the least.
Our server was not good at all. He told us it was his first night, but that is no excuse for poor service when going to an establishment such as Ernest's Orleans. We were not told what the specials for the evening were, we had to wait for our server to check on us for drink orders (which were sent back for being incorrect), and my steak was not cooked the way I ordered it. We received more attention from the bus staff than our waiter. I believe the experience would have been better with an experienced waiter. We were very disappointed, but the food was very good.
Great food although servers seemed to be overwhelmed. We had a 4:30 reservation and at 6:30 we had to flag down a waiter (not our waiter) to get our check. Maybe they weren't prepared for the crowd that arrived but it was a Saturday and the website recommends reservations so you should have some idea of what to expect and plan ahead. First time here but probably won't go back especially on a weekend.
Not impressed. The best thing we had was the complimentary bread. The spaghetti was way too sweet, the steak was covered in syrup, crab claws were ok. It's a good place to go if you want to spend a lot of money on mediocre food. Not sure how this place survives. It must be the reputation that it has for being expensive that makes people feel special for being there. I probably won't go back.
Actually thought it would have been better than it was? Had high expectations ! Marinated Crab claws are good! Shrimp appetizer excellent but very expensive? Snapper was not to my liking, fish was ok but sauce was not good! Spaghetti and meat balls not good! We would certainly go back but would order different main dishes!
Service started off very well. However as restaurant filled up, it became clear that there were not enough servers or bus-people to handle the reservations. Service got slower and slower. We finished our salads and sat for at least 15 minutes before they even removed the empty plates. It is dark inside the restaurant (even for our lunchtime meal) but we noticed that, a short time later, a cart with what looked like entrees came out of the kitchen and got parked a few tables away. Some dishes were served to neighboring tables but a few dishes were left on the bottom shelf of the cart. We did not realize those were our entrees until they were delivered to us more than 10 minutes after coming out of the kitchen. While they were still warm, they were not as fresh as they should have been. While the steak was good, and the sauce very good, my partner's broiled fish was baked, rather than broiled, which she had ordered. The fish wasn't flakey. Overall, a disappointing event. Not worth the $55/person (incl. tip) that we paid.
The parking lot was a disaster, I'd recommend valet parking. The place was not attractive on the exterior whatsoever, but inside it was okay. It was quiet, the service was good. The food was good/great...... I wouldn't say it was fantastic.
Personally, I am not interested in going back. I am not a wealthy person and to pay that kind of money for a meal, the place had better look nice and the food fantastic.
The food-- it really was very good. No complaints there.
Was here 9 years ago-- restaurant has declined greatly. Service bad-- food mediocre but very expensive! The restaurant smelled musty-- the drinking water was awful so we had to buy bottled water. We were very disappointed!!!! Will NOT return or recommend.
We were looking forward to a fine dining experience. It did not happen. While the service was great the food was not. We each had a different seafood dish, but surprisingly they all tasted the same. The worst of the three was the crabmeat au gratin. It was served on a plate and was served without any sauce. It did have quite a bit of crabmeat, but not lump crabmeat, and the dish was almost totally devoid of any flavor. The other dishes were not any better. All in all it was very disappointing.
