We were not impressed the first time we ate here but this time was so much better and we'd definitely eat here again. Our server was wonderful too!
Lunch is great on the patio. Nice to take in the city and enjoy a nice meal and a cold beverage.
Four of us got together for dinner and overall enjoyed our meal. The beers on tap could have been more varied. The combination appetizer had good wings and hummus, but we did not like the pineapple in the guacamole. The tropical salad was fresh and a good mix of flavors and the was very large and the steak, chorizo, black beans were good but needed additional sauce and flavors.
Good Location; Menu with options, but the interior appears rundown. I visited on a Friday afternoon, so it was pretty quiet. The expansive bar had about 4 people. What made it weird was the decor with curtains and mismatched furniture and a seating area on another side that was hidden from view by perhaps some paneling? The front reception area had a bulletin board that looked like a college dorm. As I said, it was weird.
The food was American flair with a twist. Guacamole with pineapple, avocado hummus, fried plantains, etc. I only got appetizers, no entrees or alcoholic beverages.
We went on a Tuesday for their taco special. We ordered 5 tacos between two people and that was plenty. The taco's were stuffed full and very flavorful. I would for sure go back again.
Food was better than I expected after walking in. Not a very good beer selection for a “taproom”. Not exactly sure what this place is trying to be - definitely more of a club/bar vibe than a serious restaurant. The AC was out on our visit and they were setting up for a concert or something while we were eating.
Food and service was great as usual. Only issue was the AC wasn't working very well and it was uncomfortably warm inside.
Perfect seating for our group of 8. Loved the pool table and basketball. Neat setup for a small stage; guy was setting up as we headed out. Happy hour had good choices and our dinner was great.
We visited this week before a show down the street. I had been in before for a quick drink and a bite in a similar situation but this visit we had a little more time.
We sampled a few of the delicious beers in rhe selection, but the real showstopper was the Cuban Bowl. That was just plain wonderful and is probably the reason we will return, even if it isn’t a pre-show stop.
Great service. Excellent food.
A Date with My Children and a Nite at the Queen!
The Food was Great but was a bit Confused as to why the Happy Hour Drinks excluded us from getting together the Friday Nite Half Price Appetizers.
We were disappointed, as the food was more bar fare than we expected. Service was spotty as well.
A great gastro pub. The chef's creations are truly a step above the competition. Great food and wonderful caring and knowledgeable staff. It was our first time eating there. Will definitely go back when I am in Wilmington.
Very good food, new twists on standard items like wraps, tacos, sauces for chicken dishes, etc. Even the ice creams for dessert were special with mango, pina colada, and coconut made in house. Our server, Sabrina, was friendly efficient, and just the right amount of attentive.
First time visiting this restaurant. It didn’t live up to the hype of the great brew pub in downtown Wilmington. Service was very slow although the waitress did admit she was new. I had two glasses of draft beer, and they were both warm. Had the taproom burger for dinner which wasn’t too bad. I won’t be returning.
Being a literary nerd I have wanted to eat at Ernest & Scott for many years now. Took a risk bringing an extra special first date there. The risk paid off. The hostess was very accommodating. The service was excellent and the food was delicious!
The hostess and our server were very friendly and welcoming. The service was on point. We didn't feel rushed but we also didn't feel like we were waiting too long for anything either. The food was very good, especially the parmesan steak fries, but I would not recommend the onion rings. They really had no taste. Not sure if it is the oil they were cooked in or lack of herbs & spices but I only ate a couple to know that I wouldn't finish them.
I was with a party of 5, where we all had either burgers and a side or a wrap and a side, and surprised that our bill came to $168. Truth be told, 3 of us had 2 alcoholic drinks each but it still seemed pricey for what we got.
Great place first time there had a good time will definitely be going back and recommend it
The location is great when going to the Grand for a performance. The service was adequate, with a lot of mix ups, not delivering items, & a long wait for one entree. It seems like the kitchen was having a difficult night. Our waiter, Sabrina, was efficient & got things straightened out. We have eaten here before and have been pleased.
I have dined at Ernest and Scott numerous times and usually had a positive experience, but on April 5, our server, Alex, basically ignored us and when he did serve us was rude. He claimed there was not a Friday night special for 1/2 priced appetizer despite the fact that they were advertised with signs in the restaurant and on the website. We requested to see a manager. After our food and drinks were finally delivered (almost an hour later) and consumed, the manager stopped by our table and also would not honor the three half priced appetizers we ordered because 2 people in our party had a beer off the happy hour menu. We asked to pay for the beer full price so we could have the appetizers half price but they would not comply with that request. They also would not take the stage door pass (15% off) that the Grand Opera house gave us. They are listed as a participating restaurant. The service was so slow that we were late getting to the Grand for an 8 pm show when our reservation was for a 6PM dinner. We wont be going back!
Third time eating at Ernest & Scott. Absolutely love the atmosphere and food! Especially the wings with bbq! Hubby and I are looking forward to our next date night here!
The area that the Tap room is in shares a heating system with other parts of the building. When we were there for dinner it was very warm until the restaurant opened up the windows on the top of the building to let some heat out. Good food, great service, yummy mixed drinks. We will try it again.
Happy Hour food choices were great and very reasonably priced.
Four friends and I had lunch before attending an afternoon play. We had a very nice time, and the food was considerably better than your usual Bar-food. Our waitress was friendly, efficient, and attentive. We all agreed we would enjoy eating here again.
We made the reservation on Open Table with confirmation but they didn’t have our rez when we arrived. However, they brought a table out of the back to accommodate us. That is going the extra mile. Service was very attentive.
A fun place, but very noisy. We were upstairs - a mistake, as there was only 1 very busy server going up and down 1 and 1/2 flights of stairs! Food was good - but not outstanding. My cocktail, however, was excellent!
All of the staff were exceptionally pleasant and polite. Bartender was friendly and checked back to ensure that I was satisfied with my drink. (Which was very tasty but a little short on alcohol content)
My waitress was very thorough, knowledgable and friendly.
Food was excellent!
The manager seemed highly offended when I had to send my swordfish back for the second time. I wouldn't eat there again or recommend it to a friend.
Surprisingly good. The decor and atmosphere were weird (couldn’t tell what they were going for) but the food was very good and the service was appropriately swift for a pre-theatre location. Would go again.
The Prime Rib special was not an actual carved off but honestly feel it was pre cut pre packed piece even though I asked.
The replacement steak tasted good . I had exactly 4/5 sliced pieces and literally 23 minutes after eating there the food gurgled in my stomach until it violently passed through and flushed !
Great experience! David was awesome. Attentive and friendly, but not overbearing. Great food. Always a good experience here.
Our server was Dave, who has waited on us once b4. He was once again, very professional and did a terrific job w his all around service. His timeliness was perfect w food/drink delivery and making sure everything was a great as possible. Elvis and Orlando remembered us from previous visits and though they weren't directly involved w our table, made sure to stop by to say hello, welcome us back and to be sure all was great. Highly recommended for many reasons. 5☆☆☆☆☆ all around!!!
The service was excellent. The food was good.
Great truffle fries and fish tacos!
This was my first experience at Ernest and Scott taproom and it was a pleasant one, indeed. The service was great and the food was awesome. Fish tacos were excellent! And Saturdays happen to be half price taco night so that was a plus too!
My friend invited my husband she had a groupon.
Elvis, the Manager, explained that in order to use the Groupon, happy hour items must be changed to regular price (2 drinks and 1 appetizer; approx. $5.00 savings). Otherwise, the groupon would not be honored.
We understand the "Policy"; however, it was Elvis' delivery. He was very defensive when my friend voiced her opinion about his lack of customer service.
There are many things that Elvis could have done to accomplish our desire to return to the restaurant; but he was not polished enough to know how to handle the situation, and we have no desire to return.
Elvis needs to learn "People Skills" if he wants to be successful in his career choice.
The food and service were fantastic. It is very noisy, even in the small upstairs dining area. We were there on a Saturday evening so I'm not sure if that is the norm all of the time. All of the servers were very nice. We had multiple people keeping an eye on us. Our dinners were very tasty. I would go back for the mushroom tacos again in heartbeat.
The only thing that really stunk is where we were seated. We were at a 2 top that is placed right in front of the stairs in the upper dining section. Directly behind us was a supply closet, with the door open so I could see in, and a station for dirty dishes. It was very distracting to have people squeezing between my Mom and the station to put dirty dishes down. I get it, it's a small space and they are trying to get as many tables in as they can. It just wasn't the perfect birthday dinner experience that I wanted to give my Mom.
Very loud. Mediocre food. Decent service. Come here to drink beer before finding a better meal elsewhere.
Sunday afternoon football and wings. Can’t beat it
It is a sports bar with a dinning room attached. We had a fantastic waitress, Rebeca, who could not have done enough.
Because it is a sports bar with multiple TV's, the bar noise does come thru into the dining room.
I had a great swordfish dinner.
Our server Dave did a terrific job along w his manager on duty, John. We've always had a great experience here which is why we go back. Highly recommended.
