"I have the simplest of tastes, I only want the best." These words, compliments of Oscar Wilde, can be found over the kitchen door at Erna's Elderberry House Restaurant on the grounds of Château du Sureau. They seem to sum up the exquisite experience of dining at Erna's Elderberry House and the adjacent Château, where the vast culinary talents of Chef de Cuisine Jonathon Perkins now reign supreme.

The restaurant, with its European country-estate atmosphere, is divided into three lovely dining areas, each adorned with antique French provincial furnishings, magnificent tapestries and original oil paintings. A stately terrace with a commanding view of the Sierra Nevada Mountains adds to the fabulous ambiance.

The three dining rooms of Erna's Elderberry House, the Escoffier, the Point or the Paul Bocuse can all be rented exclusively for your group. The Escoffier easily seats up to 55 guests, the Point seats up to 35 guests and the Paul Bocuse will easily accommodate a group of ten.

We had not been to Erna's in a few years so decided to go for my birthday. We were given the table by the fire and our waiter could not have been better. We decided to splurge on the fix menu and were very glad that we did, and also the wine pairing. We had a menu with our name and my birthday written on it, makes you feel very special. Each dish was better than the one before. On of my husbands former students in the pastry chief and came out to speak with Jeff. Added to the wow factor.

Erna's remains one of my favorites, even when put up against some of the best Michelin two star's. The ambience is in a league of its own. The service was perfect - there when needed and never hovering. As the meal - I selected a five course dinner and my wife a four course, each with the wine pairing. Adding a round of before dinner drinks, the night was $400+ and worth every penny.

The service is exceptional - even with the new ownership. When we want to talk privately or converse with the servers, all the staff responds accordingly. Renee-Nicole's wine pairings are perfect.
