"I have the simplest of tastes, I only want the best." These words, compliments of Oscar Wilde, can be found over the kitchen door at Erna's Elderberry House Restaurant on the grounds of Château du Sureau. They seem to sum up the exquisite experience of dining at Erna's Elderberry House and the adjacent Château, where the vast culinary talents of Chef de Cuisine Jonathon Perkins now reign supreme.

The restaurant, with its European country-estate atmosphere, is divided into three lovely dining areas, each adorned with antique French provincial furnishings, magnificent tapestries and original oil paintings. A stately terrace with a commanding view of the Sierra Nevada Mountains adds to the fabulous ambiance.

It was sublime. Danny did a beautiful job as our waiter. Mom loved her 89th Birthday dinner.

I got married here in 1995. We bought the place out for the weekend. It was an unforgettable experience.

Very nice brunch. Had a reservation. Thought it might be busy because it did not give me the time I requested for my reservation, but there were only two tables occupied by the time we arrived (we arrived 30 minutes before our reservation) but were seated quickly. Only another couple came after us. By the time we left, after 1 1/2 hours we arrived, no other groups arrived.
If I had known there were no other groups coming in, I would have asked for the table by the fireplace, it would have made it more personal and warmer.
Food presentation was great. Taste buds were happy. So I would definitely be back.
I was a bit disappointed because I thought we would be able to walk the grounds of the hotel/restaurant, especially if we were planning to return to stay overnight.

The food was innovative, and all good, but only one of the five courses was spectacular. Service was surprisingly weak; we were left waiting a lot. Wine would arrive long before its paired course, except for one, where it came long after. We were sometimes left with empty wine glasses halfway through a course. I was very impressed on my first two trips here, but this did not live up to expectations at all. I’m used to paying half that much for a similar experience (with better service) in Vegas.

At first our experience was not good. We were seated at the very first table for 2 just outside the main entry and just inside the dinning room. It looked like is was an afterthought putting a table there. Every time the door opened and new quests arrived they were escorted right past us staring at us. We asked our server to move us and thankfully he did. If not we would have left.

The ambiance was perfect, the service amazing, the food wonderful. However, when our entree's arrived both the rib-eye and venison were lukewarm. wWuld we go back yes, however, we would request an inside table to begin with and if the food arrived cool to touch next time I will send it back.

Nothing much to say about this place but "excellent". The service, the taste, the options ..... all were the best. I don't think I've had a better dining experience anywhere. It's pricey, but very well worth it.

We had not been to Erna's in a few years so decided to go for my birthday. We were given the table by the fire and our waiter could not have been better. We decided to splurge on the fix menu and were very glad that we did, and also the wine pairing. We had a menu with our name and my birthday written on it, makes you feel very special. Each dish was better than the one before. On of my husbands former students in the pastry chief and came out to speak with Jeff. Added to the wow factor.

Erna's remains one of my favorites, even when put up against some of the best Michelin two star's. The ambience is in a league of its own. The service was perfect - there when needed and never hovering. As the meal - I selected a five course dinner and my wife a four course, each with the wine pairing. Adding a round of before dinner drinks, the night was $400+ and worth every penny.

The service is exceptional - even with the new ownership. When we want to talk privately or converse with the servers, all the staff responds accordingly. Renee-Nicole's wine pairings are perfect.

Wonderful evening! Delicious. Definitely for a special occasion. You cannot compare this to an ordinary restaurant so to rate this for “value” is not possible. It is a dining experience with no comparison.

One of my top five favorite restaurants for over 25 years! Every aspect of the dining experience - food, ambiance, service, romance, and the willingness and ability to modify the menu to meet dietary restrictions have been consistently excellent on dozens of visits! Ms. Erna is a perfectionist and a delightful person.

Excellent evening. The food was excellent, as was the service and the atmosphere. The evening is allowed to move at your pace. We both had the 5 course meal and thoroughly enjoyed each course. It is not an inexpensive evening, but it was truly worth it.

Charming old style elegance. Dined here for Thanksgiving. Pre-fix menu.
From home made European style bread to melange of desserts, everything
was elegant, tasty, unhurried. Made for good conversation over slow food.
Highly recommended for those special occasions.

I first read about this restaurant in Appellation Magazine, many years ago. I kept the write up and hoped to one day get there. It was everything the review said and more. We went for Thanksgiving dinner. The chefs were able to turn traditional turkey dinner into a gourmet extravaganza. Each course was uniquely delicious. Also, we chose to have the wines that were selected to match each course. Everything was spectacular. There are not enough superlatives to cover the experience.

Another outstanding meal! It’s been two days and I still haven’t gotten over the perfect texture of the grilled octopus appetizer.
The rib eye entree was juicy and flavorful. The wine pairings with each course were spot on. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable of the food and the wines. Erna, made the rounds of the dining room and took the time to chat with us, which was particularly nice as our daughter was there for the first time. We could not have asked for a nicer evening.

We had a wonderful dinner at their restaurant and stayed overnight at the Chateau. Their service at both were amazing. I had previously taken Erna’s culinary classes and stayed at the Chateau. Our stay was over the top with great service and amenities. The accommodations and their location were more beautiful than I remembered. Can’t wait until we book another trip to Oakhurst.

Food was very good Service excellent Wine pairing was OK but expensive for the small amount of the pour versus the value of the wine Looked at the menu on line but when we got to Erna's was told that the menu was not being offered. The menu changes daily which is fine but the web site needs to state that. Went because the web site stated they had wild mushroom risotto and a wonderful sounding chocolate dessert but when we got there we were told none of that was being served .
