I love Erie!! Cannot wait to return.
We eat there a minimum of twice a month
Erie Cafe was a great place to gather a larger group for dinner on a Sunday night. The food was delicious. The staff was quite accommodating. Perfect night!
This place is right around the corner from where I live. Food is top notch, if you get chance, try the key lime pie. Best in Chicago. Period.
Always a fantastic meal with tremendous service - never disappoints!
The food was bad, the service was poor, when my dates steak was ill prepared and the second one was worse, they were out of prime rib at 6 pm, and it took too long for service. I have been to this restaurant many times, but I will never go again.
Our favorite restaurant: the best lamb chops, peas and onions, cottage fries
And wonderful service.
Always excellent , best grilled calamari in the city
Everyone was delighted. Our guest was there for one of her last meals in Chicago and was disappointed that she had not discovered it until the last minute.
Outstanding food and service. I was here with my family and we all loved it. Waiter was great yet let us take our time and did not rush us. Perfect place for business meal or a family meal. Noise level was perfect in that we could hear each other yet could not hear other table conversations.
I had not been to Erie before. I was pleasantly surprised with the menu, the service, and the quality of the food. Plan on going again.
Great :) no
Overall this was a really good evening! Our waiter gave us the history of the restaurant and showed us how are steaks were cooked in the kitchen. We went back two by two and it was simply a great experience. The meat was absolutely the best I have had in Chicago. If you get a chance I would make time to try the Erie Cafe!
Very old school. Service was friendly, but rushed. Food is just OK. The feel is fun, as it has a old school rustic steakhouse look.
the reality is there are way too many 4- 5 star steak houses in Chicago to pay top dollar for a place like this.
Excellent quality steaks
Kind attentive staff
Delicious food. Excellent service. We’re there as often as possible.
old fashioned Chicago steak house with lots of alternatives for non-steak eaters. excellent Italian food and seafood. Top notch service
There are many good steakhouses in the city, and I have been to a fair number of them. But the Erie is my favorite and the only steakhouse my wife will go to. There were six old college friends for dinner last Saturday. Everyone had a great piece of meat ranging from filets to strips to bone in rib eye. All perfectly done. Decent reasonably priced wine list. Use some self control when ordering side because each steak comes with their house fries, kind of like chips but better. Just for fun we asked if they made brandy Alexander’s and we had one for desert. Again, a great restaurant without pretense of being anything other than a great restaurant.
This was not my first time at Erie Cafe. I decided to take a large group of friends for a get together and birthday. I made the reservations well in advance. When we arrived it told them two people were not coming, when we were seated, there wasn't enough room at the table so they had to set up another table to accommodate. We had one server that seemed annoyed and very overwhelmed that we were "so many people and hes only one person". There was another drink server that only wanted to answer "drink related questions"--keep in mind, we do not drink alcohol! So basically it was one server for our table and all the neighboring tables also. No attention to service at all. Our reservations were made for two birthdays...I asked the server and he said no one informed him. When i needed his attention, he told me to wait because he was busy....never coming back. I'm embarrassed that I took over 14 people to this place.
This place is an old school, classic gem! The service is prompt, professional, and friendly. Carlos and his sidekicks seem like they have been there forever and mastered their craft a long time ago. The food is always great and there is plenty of it. While things can get a bit pricey, one could easily argue that quality comes at a cost....and at The Erie Cafe this is money well spent. Whether inside, outside, or in one of the private dining rooms, I have always had a pleasant experience and a great meal.
Over priced and average food. Service was very good
Service was a joke. Incredibly rude waiter who seemed disinterested about being there. Asked for pork chop to cooked medium well, and it came back raw. Sent back but no one apologized. Was happy when the waiter advised we only get one salad and split, but he ended up charging for two anyways. Inexpensive for the quantity of food, which helped because the food quality was near the bottom of any dining experience I’ve had in 10 years in Chicago. A strong pass on this spot.
We could eat there every night. The food is delicious and the service great!
Loved it! Will for sure go back!
Friendly, attentive staff without being obtrusive. Warm, cozy atmosphere but disappointing meal. My bone-in strip loin steak was ordered “medium”, arrived “medium rare” and was tough, chewy and flavorless from start to finish. The cream spinach and home fried potatoes were bland and served at room temperature.
I continue to return to Erie because it’s just so good! Everything works here! Classic Chicago spot with fantastic food and equally good service.
OK but nothing special. Warm atmosphere but the steaks were not the best in the city. Caesar salad was terrible! Anchovies cost additional $4, which was really weird. Good drinks. But overall, not competitive in the very expensive Chicago steaks sweepstakes.
We were seated at a table (versus a booth). Instead of going around to the outer aisles, the servers continually walked between our table and the one next to us-- jostling into my seat at regular intervals. Either move the tables farther apart or instruct the staff to stick to the outer aisles. This was extremely distracting and annoying.
Food was fine-- not great and particularly at this price point-- not worth it. The Chicken Cacciatore was the highlight-- not the steaks. Really felt way too expensive.
Seemed odd not to have someone helping with coats-- sort of a free for all.
Had a fantastic lunch there today. Best Cobb Salad in City! Great service while being really busy. Great place for a business lunch. Look forward to trying for dinner!
My Favorite Chicago Steakhouse. I have been going here for 25 years and have never been disappointed. Food is remarkable and the service outstanding.
Great place!
I have never had a bad experience here. The food and service are very good!
Erie Cafe is a classic. You feel at home there even on one visit. the food, whether classic Italian or steak or chicken, is very good, with generous portions. What Erie is not is pretentious. It has a chicago version of the mad men vibe, which makes it a midwestern charm.
As far as I am concerned, the best steak in town. I almost always have the bone in rib eye, a huge portion perfectly prepared. I have been to other steakhouses, but this is the best value around without compromising quality.
Great place to sit and talk. They take care of you without bothering you and you are never rushed. The food is very good and the atmosphere is comfortable
Outstanding! Had a great meal cannot wait to go back and try something different. Boz the manager is incredibly accommodating.
Absolutely by far the best steak I have ever had. All steaks come with a salad and cottage fries. Had the grilled calamari first which was amazing. Also had a side of creamed spinach. Our waiter Carlos was excellent. Very expensive but if you want an amazing steak this is the place to go!!
Been dining at Erie Cafe for years and always a great meal. Chicago has many steakhouses and Erie Cafe holds their own against all of them.
Steaks are amazing and service was great. Would definitely recommend.
Everything was great.
So granted I went to Erie for the first time on New Years Eve, so I understand that it is not a fair assessment of a restaurant, but here are my thoughts. The waiter was nice and took our drink orders right away and then came back to take our dinner orders-he wasn't pushy either trying to add on a bunch of things. I ordered a petite filet, which was cooked medium rare as I requested but had not much flavor. I feel like they did put any salt or pepper or anything on it. My fiance ordered his steak medium rare as well and his came out medium-barely any pink. He did not send it back or make a comment and rather just ate it. We ordered asparagus as a side and it was tasty. My fiance then ordered a second glass of wine and I ordered a coffee-my coffee never came. Then our waiter disappeared. When he finally returned he came back with a piece of their key lime pie, set it on our table without saying a word and walked away. We had no idea if we put this on the wrong table or anything-we did not order it. We ate it and it was delicious, but it would have been nice to know why we received it. He finally came back and gave us our check. Overall, it wasn't a horrible experience but I am not in a hurry to go back.
