We visited this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. We got there slightly late (at 7:08 for a 7:00 PM reservation) and we weren't seated for another ten minutes. Service was slow, food was spotty, two party members had sirloin and were thrilled...two of us had pasta and it was "meh"...carbonara undercooked...pasta with mushrooms definitely something I could make for myself at home.
We had originally made reservations for another restaurant in the North End...and we wanted to branch out...it wasn't worth the effort. We were here for an overnight in Boston for my friend's birthday...nice stay at the Langham. This was a low point for the weekend.

Great service, delicious food and nice atmosphere. The wait staff was very professional and conscientious to our needs even though they had gotten slammed with a huge theater crowd before we came in. Both our waiter and the hostess made great recommendations off of the menu for food and wine. Would definitely like to dine here again!
My husband ordered a lamb dish. After uncovering a large layer of skin and fat he found a pile of bones and gristle. We agreed that it was the worst entree we had experienced anywhere. For $30, there was literally nothing to eat. I never send food back or complain about unsatisfactory meals. . .but this was crazy. When the waiter asked about our meal, I told him the truth. The restaurant was nice enough to take the entree off of our bill. The other parts of the meal were good to satisfactory. The decor was sad. The staff seemed unhappy. I will never go back even though the location is perfect for pre-theater dining. Too bad!
Greeting great. Service a tiny bit slow but overall very good. Reading the menu is a little difficult with the script font they use and the dishes names were above my vocabulary so we just picked a few random things and the food was outstanding! All of it. Wine was a great value too. Would definitely recommend for a nice dinner or date.
I have been to Erbaluce several times over the past few years and find the food and service to be consistently excellent. On my most recent visit we received an excellent wine recommendation and all of the food from the cauliflower appetizer and escarole salad to the guinea hen special and the steak entrees were all delicious. Everything is always incredibly fresh and since they make everything without creams or butter it is light and you can try several courses without feeling too full. The service is always very friendly and knowledgeable and they are very good about timing meals if you have to catch a show after dinner. I look forward to my next meal at Erbaluce!
The service was impeccable. The food is very good and very interesting. Our waiter helped us choose a wine, as almost all the wines listed were unknown to me. The choice was great. Something like a Pinot Noir. He also helped us plan our entire meal. We both got started, shared a pasta special, and had different entrees. Shared a dessert with cappuccinos. The price was a little high, but such great service and attention made you feel it was a special night out.
Erbaluce is in my view the best Italian Restaurant in Boston, including the North End restaurants. I would and have recommended it to many others. The food is made with the freshest of ingredients and exceedingly well prepared. The wine list is excellent, and the service is superb.
Found this gem totally by accident while researching someplace for dinner before the theater. What a find! Our reservation was for 5:30. We were greeted enthusiastically and seated immediately. The ambiance was warm as was our delightful server. The pace was wonderful and everything was creative and delicious. We will definitely return! Thanks for a wonderful dinner, Erbaluce!
Erbaluce was awesome! All the food was tastefully prepared and service was so attentive. We had razor clams that were tender and scallops that had just the right amount of spice. Trout had such an excellent crispy skin. We were in a rush to get to the theater and all the stuff catered to our needs and served us an excellent meal! This was a wonderful experience and I would recommend this restaurant to all of my friends and family.
Went here for a birthday. While the main course was very good, the other parts of the meal were average at best. The "sour dough" bread was terrible- strange taste and nothing like any sour dough we've ever had. The bean dip was inedible.
Service was pushy and uncaring when issues were raised.
The dessert was supposed to be panna cotta with fresh raspberries. When it came, it was covered with an orange substance ("citrus compote") with golden raisins. While apologies were given, it should have been simpler for the server to inform us of the change- and we wouldn't have ordered it.
Too bad because the sardine app and pork cheek entree were great.
Service is definitely rough around the edges. Music was loud and raucous. They may consider putting a door between the fluourescent lit, pot banging, chef yelling kitchen, and the cozy and inviting dining room I would presume that they would want to maintain. But still, the music. Food was lukewarm, uninspired. Had a similar experience a few years ago but thought I'd give it another shot. I'm done now.
We randomly saw this restaurant when looking up places code to the Park Plaza and it looked intimate and cozy and the menu seemed interesting. Everything we ate was delicious and the service excellent. There was another party of 42 guests in the restaurant and kindly warned us about it ahead of time, and were still attentive throughout. We didn’t feel like our food was overly delayed and were given time to eat each course at our leisure. A wonderful place to go out for a date
The host was amazing and graceful. Checked on tables often and was very accommodating and professional throughout. Unfortunately the high bar he set did not last.
We began with a few glasses of wine at the bar as our table was prepared. The wine list consisted of all Italian wines that had great range and covered the full spectrum. Also the homemade bread sticks/snaps were splendid. The bartender was courteous and friendly, but overstepped a boundary at the end—it was a lack of professionalism and judgement.
Food was okay but very overpriced. Servers were nice but inexperienced, describing ingredients/preparation of specials with general statements like “..and other stuff like that” despite reading off of a list.
The arugula salad was slopped together and the dressing did a poor job of taming the pepperiness of the arugula. The cacio pepe, while tasty, certainly did not warrant the $40 price tag, black truffles or not. Lastly, despite good preparation, our lamb entree was a fatty cut of meat that did not impress or live up to the $36 price tag.
It was new years eve and some kinks can be expected, but our experience overall was underwhelming. We won’t blame the restaurant for the fire alarm blaring mid-service, but this place wants to wear big boy pants and simply does not live up to the standard. Perhaps if the food was priced more fairly our critique would be less harsh. Would recommend Erbaluce to anyone looking for evening drinks and an Italian wine list, but would not suggest staying for a full meal.
We went for New Year's Eve (which is also spouse's birthday), and had a lovely dinner. Food was great (Spicy Saffron Tomato Cavatappi, Porcini Tagliatelle), apps were also tasty. Server had said apps were sized for sharing, and they really were not, so we were glad that we couldn't decide between cauliflower and brussels sprouts - we just got both. Wine selection was also good. Dessert was amazing, and the complimentary little bites at the end were a nice touch. Tables were a little too close for private conversations or seamless service. Prices were not too high for the quality of the food. I'd return (and probably will, when it's a little warmer out!)
Had never known of this little gem! Very close to the Park Plaza, much better ambiance than many restaurants in the same area. Creative cuisine, excellent wine list, quiet enough to enjoy dinner conversation, and great service. Authentic. Only place I could get reservations on New Year's Eve--what a find! We'll be back.
What a wonderful little spot that I've been meaning to try for ages now. A rather long, lengthy description of the specials for the day seemed a little much, but our server was absolutely lovely. Had a 1/2 portion of the mushroom tagliatelle -- delicious. My dining partner ordered the lobster special which was "interesting" -- I'm not sure I would have included the largish beans, and the pieces of radicchio were very large, but certainly decorative. I had the black bass which also had the beans, but I thought more appropriately. Fish was a little overdone to my taste, but loved the crispy skin left on. The Erbaluce tiramisu is excellent! And the little sides of tidbits was a nice touch. I'll definitely come back to this very romantic eatery. Thank you.
Dinner wasn't so great. Pasta dish was undercooked. Al Dente is ok but this was well below that. Lamb dish was very fatty. The lamb itself was tremendous, delicious, but there was a lot of fattiness to the cut. The restaurant is very dark making my lamb dinner and accoutrements almost impossible to see. The staff is fantastic. We had a wonderful waiter but he seemed to lose some attentiveness steam as the restaurant filled up. Finally the value just wasn't there. Very expensive for the quality of all dinners.
First off our server was fantastic. Super attentive and helpful. Our starters (razor clams and octopus special) were alright not as flavorful as I would have liked. I got the truffle pasta special for my entree and it was delicious. The dessert was the best part we got the tiramisu and Panna cotta. We would return especially because it is in the best little area.
We went after a Ballet with 2 adults/3 children 7-13. The kids are adventurous eaters and loved the food! I had an amazing carbonara and gelato. The breads were fresh and yummy, the deserts were amazing. The service was fantastic our waitress noted the girls special dresses and really made them feel welcomed.
Very nice spot! The waiter was very attentive to the fact that we had theatre tickets and took good care to ensure we finished on time (even after we arrived late due to inclement weather)! Food was really good (not quite mind-blowing, but definitely high quality).
Also, it was pretty crowded for a snowy evening, so they must be doing something right!
