The waitress and the manager had bad attitude. The food was poor. The pasta with truffle was over cooked. The octopus was too salty.

This is a favorite. They always ask if you need to make a show, so they can plan their service accordingly. We told them we were there for the night, not to rush us. It was a great evening with friends, a nice leisurely evening with good friends and good service and food.

Grilled octopus was fabulous. Special pasta of the day with black truffle was not hot and not a lot of flavor. Two of my guests also found their apps to be a pretty flavorless - can't remember what they were though off the top of my head. Guest liked the braised pork cheek.

Elegant, but low-key, comfortable atmosphere. Unbelievable walnut-encrusted steak! Loved that no butter or cream is used so natural flavors come through and you can eat a full meal without feeling overly stuffed. Waiter recommended the perfect red wine for our meal. Excellent service. They even recommended a fun place to hear live jazz as we were leaving.
They didn't hear our 2nd appetizer order so we were disappointed we didn't get to try the wood-grilled ocotpus. The salad was nice, using winter greens and pistachio dressing.
We were so satisfied after the meal we did not order dessert. We did miss cream on the dessert, as herbed sorbet did not appeal to us. We would definitely return to and recommend this restaurant.

We first ate at Erbaluce in 2013 while attending a convention in Boston. We ate here again in November of 2017 for the same reason.

This is a genuinely good restaurant. Ingredients taste fresh and high quality, preparation is simple and clear. You can get really nice glasses of wine for $10 apiece.

We like northern Italian food that steers clear of butter, cream, melted cheese, and tomato sauce. This is just such a place. It's not cheap by any standard, but the price seems fair for the quality.

We LOVED erbaluce. Truly some of the most wonderful combinations and dishes we have had on our travels yet. Their food isn’t covered and smothered in cream, sauces, or cheese...It’s flavorful and perfectly proportioned—well done!

Lived in Boston until 2015 and dined at Erbaluche every 2-3 months. It was always a great experience. So on a recent visit, my wife and I decided to return there. We were not disappointed. Even a simple dish like bluefish was done very well and delicious.

Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Erbaluce. We arrived right at opening because of a later commitment at 7 pm. We were seated promptly and our server inquired early on if we had a show or other event we needed to make. My fellow diner and I split a salad and an appetizer, the each had our own entrees. The app was a half order of a pasta entree and was large enough to enjoy the dish without having to eat (and pay for!) a regular portion. My pappardelle with wild boar ragu was flavorful, but could have taken more meat and sauce. The portion was plenty. My partner's special pasta was also very good. Our server was informed, attentive and available. My only suggestion would be that the wait staff not gather by the entry to the kitchen and conduct personal conversations within earshot of the diners. This was likely due to the fact that the dining room was relatively empty because of our early reservation. Ironically, my usual complaint is that servers can't be found in an empty dining room because they are congregating in the kitchen. I am happy to have the staff in the dining room, but try to mange the conversation. In sum, Erbaluce was an excellent dining experience, and we would go there again.

The problem here is the menu and the cooking is not based on taste or authenticity. The menu is created by a non experienced, certainly not Italian cook, not chef. Way too many ingredients, which do not necessarily marry together but look good on paper. It is sad, in a town that excels in seafood and Italian fare. The website and the menu on line donot reflect the actual food that is served. Example the pork, was fall of the bone, came with a very savoury gravy and covered with candied Christmas cake like fruit and dowsed with honey. Should have stopped at the gravy... The greens were over cooked and could not tell you if it was kale, spinach or weeds from the front lawn. It would not have mattered because it was so over cooked and tasteless. The black bass smelled bad, and I could smell it from the kitchen. The skin had scales and the fish was ridiculously Bonny. The rest of our table had at least one disappointing dish out of their choices. The waiter was really good and funny but sorry his brother in law, the cook, blew it that night.

My favorite Italian restaurant in Boston. When friends from Italy come to Boston this is always a place they appreciate and applaud. Not ‘Americanized’ but the real thing. And some of the best, fairly priced wines in town. Not to mention the desserts. A plus!

The just so so food doesn't agree with the beautiful ambiance. The octopus appetizer was rubbery, and the rack of boar very bland. My wife's razor clams were full of sand. Service was passable but not great. Just not a great experience. Maybe it was an off night ; the place is so charming that it may be worth exploring again.

Erbaluce is always amazing, but this was one of our best experiences. Particularly notable were the boar pasta, the raviolini , the mackeral and the baby octopus special.

Interesting, slightly different flavors and creative dishes. They don't mention anything about gluten-free, but when my brother said he didn't eat gluten, they brought him a special bread with no great fuss. Nice touch. Boar was great.

I have had two great meals here.
One in which a little girl overheard I was having a birthday, drew a pic. And presented to me. The other was with three dear old friends.

Nice, cozy ambiance. Wonderful homemade pasta and breads. We come often and although we do, I’d say that there is a little something almost always lacking—for instance, the sauces need a little more something. The Cacio Pepe needed both more pepper and cheese to be memorable. I asked for more pepper and added it myself. The ragu needed something—salt? Not sure. These are the things that keep it from being a great restaurant instead of just a good one. But the ambiance and service (relaxing and unrushed) are lovely and for those aspects keep us returning.

Always excellent. We love this restaurant. Excellent food fixed as Italians would—no butter and no cream, but full of flavor. Also an excellent wine list.

We had a party of 8 arriving late from traffic and in a rush before a show. The staff handled our situation perfectly and we were out of there quickly. The food was delicious too! I'd definitely go back before a show at the Wilbur.

The food is always amazing, but the service was not comparable to what it was years ago... The waiter was just not very nice and gave little insight about the food. That's a pity: he failed to make our experience a memorable one. It was just very good

We weren't from Boston and were looking for a place to go to dinner. After reading about Erbaluce online, we decided to try it out. We had a tomato salad to share, pasta (the carbonara and the special of the night - bucatini cacio e pepe), and the lemon panna cotta. Everything was delicious and the portions were good. Although the menu changes regularly, the carbonara apparently is a staple. Instead of a chicken egg, they use a duck egg and it made all the difference. The heaviness and creaminess of the duck egg along with thicker bucatini pasta made the dish.

The initial impression was that the restaurant was cozy and charming. The low light ambiance and the table settings were nice. The server was helpful. However the food was a bit disappointing. The papardelle was reasonably cooked though the pasta could have been more al dente...a standard effort but nothing beyond the ordinary. The octopus starter was overly sweet. The disappointment was with the razor clam special: it looked very pretty with a large thin slice of crisped bread and fennel herb salad. However, the clams themselves were sandy and every chew was gritty.

Very good diversity of entrees and appetizers that vary daily. Thankfully they had their wonderful signature razor clams and rack of boar as specials. Our overall impression was diminished however by service that was rushed and perfunctory, even though there was an empty table next to us. Several times the waiter or busperson tried to take our plates away before we we’re finished. When I did complete my dinner, he scooped the plates up and cleared the table while I was literally still chewing the last bite. I also appreciate the wait staff telling you how much the off-the-menu items are, which our waiter didn’t. Although our dinner was delicious, I wouldn’t call erbaluce a destination restaurant nor would I rush back. I guess they’re trying to rush us left a disappointing experience.

Chosen on the back of Open Table reviews and the closeness to the theatre district where we were staying. We split a plate of sardines to start with and they were beautiful. My wife then had the pigs cheeks which she tells me were wonderful and I had the Bucatini with locally cured pork which was also wonderful. Good wine list from which we chose a bottle of Piemonte, Pinot Noir, which was good but not brilliant. Overall very happy

It's great to see a place that's know as a pillar in the Boston restaurant scene still striving for quiet excellence. The food is creative and made with such thoughtfulness and quality ingredients. The service is just perfect: Unobtrusive, well timed, unpretentious but unfalteringly attentive. Every part of this restaurant points to a team of people that care greatly for the establishment and take pride in what they do. Among this ever-changing, envelop-pushing, concept reimagining that's happening all of the city, it is so refreshing to dine at a place that doesn't need to tell you how many plates of food to order or how to eat a particular dish or try to wow you with the most pan-global flavors you've ever had. Thank you, Erbaluce, for just a wonderful and memorable meal.

Tall, bald waiter was not attentive. Walked by multiple times with dirty dishes on the table and was rather short in regards to questions. I asked about what I was being served and he curtly replied "greens & potatoes". Nothing else. This was a $48.00 entree, at that price point I expect some better service. It seems like this place used to be good but they are trying to save money/cut corners. Should have known something was amiss when i was able to get a last second reservation at 7:00pm without hassle. Wont be back. Go to Coppa.
