Food was good but not outstanding. The waitstaff stop by the table and ask how everything is, but don't seem terribly concerned with the answer or interested in making things better. I'm a little mystified by the hype that follows this restaurant.
There was nothing that we ate that I would return to this restaurant to try again.
We love Erbaluce ; a favorite of ours. Chuck is one of the most innovative chefs ever- we had his stuffed sunflower appetizers. One of my favorite season dishes.
Joan is a gracious host- her front of the house presence is very welcoming.
Its is just a special place for us.
Food was very good--onion soup and sea bass were excellent. Raviolini with mushroom broth was flavorful but an awesome light summer dish. Service was outstanding and made our experience; excellent wine recommendation. We were pre-theatre and both the server and maitre'd kept the dinner moving to make sure we made our show on time. Would absolutely recommend this spot!
Thanks for another fantastic meal at this great neighborhood location which is easy to miss or overlook. This continues to be my favorite restaurant in Boston. The Italian flavors and style are not to be missed by those who truly appreciate authenticity in this most unlikely of spots at the edge of this tiny Boston neighborhood.
My husband and I dined at Erbaluce to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary, before heading to the theater. The service was impeccable, the food was delicious, and the wine list was something special. Overall, the experience reminded us of our visit to Italy several years ago. Thank you for making our special night perfect!
Food was fine, nothing special. Service was bleak. The main server knew little about the wine list and steered us in the wrong direction without a bit of hubris. Two servers had strong, competing perfumes, which distracted nastily from the experience. The manager loomed overall with a grim, lonely face that was a little scary to look at.
The freshest ingredients "modern " Italian. The Chefs specialty is to prepare dishes without butter, cream etc. but to infuse the essence of veggies and broths to make rich flavor. Home made pastas white summer truffle ala peppe and bucatini carbonara made with egg yolk you stir at table for creamy deliciousness with restaurant cured guanciale a light taste of heaven. Top it off with a bottle of Finano a perfect accompaniment
I can't believe more people do not know about this best kept secret. The food was excellent and staff very professional and friendly. We had the specials and everything was extremely fresh and prepared with great care.
Beer part was gelato: made in house and better than you find in Italia. Bringing my hubby back!
We had a very enjoyable meal. The wild boar and the pork chops were perfectly prepared and delicious. The service was friendly and helpful when we were ordering. A small detail I noticed was that the glassware was quite thick - both for the champagne flutes and stemware. You might expect a bit finer tableware from this category of restaurant.
Italian through and through. I visited and went here on business. Good Italian wine list but no other regions represented - waiter recommended a good bottle. Food had very interesting range of items - all sounding attractive. Would like to do it again to experience more
Erbaluce is a lovely little Italian / seasonal restaurant tucked into the Bay Village area of Boston. A great get away from the theatrics of similar caliber Boston restaurants. The staff are very attentive and know the menu and wine selections very well. I like going there for their carbonara which is always served al dente and with egg on top. The main courses rotate nicely with the seasons and any of these choices are excellent.
The food was unusual and delicious. The service was particularly outstanding, given that I'd had a bad interaction with a cab driver trying to find the restaurant and actually hit my head and cut my hand when he slammed on the brakes. Greg, the host, gave us directions all along the way, and when we pulled up near the restaurant he came out and retrieved me. He was patient and concerned, and moved me and my friend to a bigger table and brought us prosecco. He saved the day for us, and the lovely dinner was the frosting on the cake (so to speak). We enjoyed the evening despite the tumultuous start to it.
Outstanding! We were greeted by a wonderful hostess and immediately directed to our table. The dining area was energetic but not too loud to enjoy our conversation. Our server was gracious and informative. He assisted with a sparkling wine selection which was spot on. His description of the specials made us want to try everything. We were on a mission to find the best Carbonara and we were not disappointed. Our server made sure we knew that chef built his sauces on natural ingredients and did not use butters or creams as a base. I do love my butter and freely admit that I was a little apprehensive but the dish was outstanding. We also selected the Cacio e Pepe with Truffles. After a recent trip to Italy we were hoping that this dish would match up and after one bite we thought that Chef might want to head over to Italy and teach them this recipe! It was delicious. If you are looking for wonderful dining experience, you have to visit erbaluce!
erbaluce is an amazing restaurant!!! Chuck and Joan have created such a comfortable space for dining on the most well-rounded and crafted dishes you can find in Boston.
The pasta is the freshest, most perfectly cooked pasta you will ever eat.
The meat is always cooked to perfection. The plating is beautiful. Ever dish is full of flavor and delicious.
I recommend the caccio pepe, bucatini and pork cheek. Or anything on the menu. I've also heard the bar menu is great!
We had a great night! My wife has a gluten allergy, so she was thrilled when the chef brought out his own gluten free bread, fresh from the oven. Pretty much everything but the pasta is gluten free and they usually have a gluten free pasta to replace it. The menu changes daily, but the steak and bass we had were both phenomenal. We can't wait for our next visit!
We found Erbaluce on Boston Magazine's list of top 50 restaurants for 2017 and were not disappointed. The space is beautiful and perfect for a romantic date night. The article raved about the Carbonara and I was happy to take the recommendation - it is as excellent as advertised. My husband had the rack of boar which was perfectly cooked and presented a wonderful combination of flavors. Our dinner at Erbaluce was a highlight of our weekend getaway to Boston and would suggest it to anyone.
This is not your typical Italian restaurant. The first thing the server will tell you is that the chef does not use any butter or cream in his cooking and that almost everything they use comes from a local farmers market. I found the dishes to be unique and interesting. I had grilled octopus app and tautag entree - both cooked well and described appropriately. It's worth a try if you're looking for something out of the box.
