This restaurant is permanently closed. After much thought and consideration, and with deep sadness, the Castel Hotel & Spa (the “Castle”) has decided to cancel all events and reservations scheduled for the remainder of 2020 and for events booked in 2021. In light of the current unavoidable realities caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic, and the uncertainties it has caused to the hotel and travel industry, the Castle recognizes there are far too many health concerns with continuing operations at this time. The Castle’s primary focus continues to be the safety and wellbeing of its guests and staff. The Castle and its ownership have undertaken a thorough review of its operations and the luxury hotel industry as a whole and have decided to close the hotel and spa.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. Everything was amazing! From the food to the ambiance to the service. My only minor complaint is, that I wish we were seated not too close to the other couples. It was a very quiet Thurs evening and there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant. We were all seated close to one another.

This is one of my favorite spots in Westchester. Service is outstanding and food is incredible. Every time we eat here there is something new on the menu - my mojitos was amazing, as was the expression martini! Will be back soon!

We had an amazing dining experience. The room is beautiful - small enough to not be able to get loud, but the tables are spaced far apart enough to have an intimate experience.

We waited 40 minutes to be seated for a 7pm reservation; unacceptable. The hostess didn’t tell us there was a bar, we had to ask and sat ourselves there to wait. There were 2 different menus, one for the bar and one for the dining room. The prices for the same wine were more expensive for the dining room (eg. $20/ glass at the bar for a glass of red and $23/glass in the dining room). When we asked the bartender why the prices were different he admitted they charge more for wine in the dining room and that it was “shady”. We were finally seated in a room with just 10 tables, and unfortunately were limited to a prefixed menu. We disclosed a few food allergies and asked about the ingredients of a few dishes, our waiter seemed confused and said he didn’t know what was in the dishes and that he would get our waiter to help (wasn’t he our waiter?). Another man came and listed the ingredients. We ordered a bottle of wine and while waiting for it the busser came by and asked us if we wanted some wine and seemed confused when we told him we had already ordered wine. When we received the bill my husband frowned noticing an error. When he questioned the waiter about it the waiter barely glanced at the receipt and insisted it was correct several times. My husband pushed back again, he was trying to tell the waiter the bill was only $43 and should have been closer to $450. We were trying to pay MORE than the bill reflected! The waiter silently took the check and silently dropped the correct one back at the table. No “thank you” or apologies for the confusion...

It felt like this was opening night at some random restaurant. The staff seemed amateur, no one was communicating with each other or knew the ingredients of an 8 item menu, and we waited far too long considering we had a reservation. That said the steak was exceptional and sea bass cooked perfectly. We won’t be back.

Everything was amazing! The staff made our Valentines weekend a memory we will never forget. Thank you for the warm hospitality and great service. We will definitely be back.

Took wife for Valentines. Made reservation weeks in advance. Was called by a woman who said I had to pay weeks in advance. $169 pp No mention of what it covered . Was told prix fix 4 course meal. She did not know the menu. Lovely building . Excellent food. Waiter with poor command of English . After finishing, got up to leave. Was tracked down in hall by another waiter saying the one glass of wine my wife ordered was extra. He said tip was included but not the alcohol. That glass of wine cost over $29.00. Whole episode reminded me of humans being shuttled in by robotic staff like we were cattle. I have eaten in fine dining establishments with advance payments but alcohol was always included. In fact, many times the dinners were to pair courses with certain wines. Will likely not return to the Tarrytown Castle.

Our family of four went to Equus for my husband's birthday. The food was excellent & the atmosphere was very relaxing. We really enjoyed the experience. This was our first time dining there but we will definitely go back.

Bread was meager slices of rye. Salad portions were much to small for the price and when asked to be shared were brought to the table for us to split ourselves, same with dessert. Main courses were not memorable

I should have read the reviews before booking. Now I see I'm not alone in having a disappointing recent experience. Poor service seems to be a theme among reviewers. We booked for lunch. The place was almost empty. No one was there to greet us, the service was awful, the prices were high and the salad/appetizer portions were appallingly skimpy give the prices. Duck confit was an interesting main dish and nice portion. Same with the burger. I agree with the reviewers who said the Michelin star should come down. Even if it wasn't rated I'd have been just as disappointed in the overall experience. We had to hunt for the closets to fetch our own coats! The valet was friendly and helpful. There's no reason to return.

The food is simply divine. The waiters and host were super kind and friendly. They answered any questions we had. This was the fist time I brought my husband to the Equus. We had been raving about this place for a few years and for him the food was beyond his expectations. The Equus is the epitome of fine dining.

My friend Rosa and I enjoyed a cup of tea, scrambled eggs with roasted potatoes and sausage. The ambiance was lovely. It was quiet in the room although they placed in the side room and not the main room where I have had breakfast/lunch before. Our server forgot to give us milk for our tea and butter for our muffins...but we asked him for it and he did get the milk and butter for us. Besides that everything was fabulous.

We were here for NYE dinner. Let me say that this has been the worst experience I have had in a restaurant of this caliber and price point. Service was non existent where the table was never assigned a server; although someone eventually took our order. Plates would come out without silverware for all of the 4 courses. Empty glasses remained on the table, we were never offered any drinks or refills of water. A table next to us had to get cutlery from the table near by. Ample amount of associates and not a single adequate moment of service! Couple that with a very loud chef who kept screaming profanities to the point where I had to speak to the manager made this a deplorable experience. Never again will I step foot into this establishment and you should bother either. I picked this restaurant for NYE over Inn at Pound Ridge and L’escale and lesson learned - should have went to them instead.

Equus tried valiantly to put on a first class 5 course extravaganza with wine selections paired with each course. While the New Year’s Eve menu was impressive in print and the food choices and quality were excellent, the “wheels came off the event” because their dinning room wait staff did not have a clue what wine went with what course... red wine came with my wife’s sea bass and a white with my beef. Frankly, a $590+ meal, with tax and tip, was quite disappointing... oh, tip was not optional which I find a little “tacky” to say the least.

The service was impeccable. The food creative and delicious. I was so impressed the chef came up and spoke to me about my food allergies, assuring me I did not need to worry. We did not feel at all rushed, just a lovely, leisurely dinner. The winter decorations added to the ambience. A wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary.

Lovely Christmas setting. Views at sunset were breathtaking. Food was excellent but meal was buffet which took away from dinner-ambience. Staff was very attentive but not intrusive. Food was down a short but twisted hallway in a room probably not meant for food service. No list of foods at table, so somewhat difficult to know all choices (eggs and waffles made fresh if ordered with waiter) and drinks were extra. Overall a lovely experience but VERY pricey!

The service was incredibly poor. People not knowing what they’re doing, zero sense of manners or elegance. It felt like a tourist trap. The food was supposed to be good, it was a very average buffet including a dry sorry interpretation of a Coq au Vin. I don’t mind paying any price for a nice elegant meal but $300 for 2 people for this was an absolute joke. It was a Christmas Day lunch and I thought they would make it very special. Terrible.

Was there for Christmas Eve Dinner, a $125/plate 4 course dinner. I chose the consume for my first course. The broth was barely warm, which totally ruined the dish. I told several people, including the chef who came to the table at the end of the meal. None seemed particularly bothered by my complaint.

For the second course I chose the quail, which was inadequately seasoned and slightly undercooked, which made the meat rubbery.

The entree was lamb, which was a very nice dish, I can’t remember the dessert, but it was nice as I recall.

Overall very disappointing. They seemed ver l’aisay fairs about the entire experience, including the 30 minutes it took to get a pre meal cocktail

We have been to Equus several times so I booked a family brunch without hesitation. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. I reached out to Equus before posting this review. However, they have not contacted me to discuss.

Although there were very few diners in the dining rooms on the day of our reservation, we had issues with service. Once everyone in our party of ten arrived the waiter asked if anyone would like champagne or wine. We wondered if that was the only choice so asked if we could get beer or cocktails. We were told yes. We ordered. We waited. We waited some more. After 30 minutes 3 - 4 of the drinks arrived. More waiting. We asked about the rest of the drinks and were told they’re coming. More waiting, 4 more drinks arrived. More asking, more waiting the last drink arrived. Finally we could toast to the holiday season and new year!

Although the food was good, the overall experience was not what we expected from Equus.

Amazing food and service for a special occasion. We went there for my 30th birthday. The service was incredible, they knew my wine order and kept my glass full (as I wanted). The food was exceptional. Cooked perfect and good sized portions. Worth the money for sure. I had the short rib gnocchi and my husband had the duck. We ordered the mushrooms on the side. Everything was excellent.

We were there for our wedding anniversary, the staff couldn’t have been more pleasant, informative and helpful without being intrusive. The food was so delicious- local and fresh as well. Superb. The castle itself is absolutely breathtaking. Everyone was very nice. We arrived early to have a drink in the hotel and unwind. It was so silent. No one offered to take our coats. We had to ask. We went into the bar area, and were the only ones in there. We had to ask where a bartender was as no one was present. There was really no ambiance which was disappointing. The Christmas decorations were lovely to look at, but it was just so quiet. I felt that our waitstaff was attentive and sweet, but not looking for conversation. It felt like a strange experience. Dinner was delicious. I wish the experience had been better all around.

We attended the Thanksgiving dinner at Equus. The menu was excellent. The food was hi quality, really well prepared, flavorful and tasty. The service was superb. The space is elegant and comfortable. Definitely recommend it!!
