So disappointed on so many levels. Where do I start???
First off, we had a reservation which the hotel and restaurant knew about, confirmed both on the phone and via email. Yet, we arrived, on time, there were only 2 other couples seated, but no host. We had to walk around looking for him...We found a waiter and he finally seated us, although the place was so empty...but, I was not able to make the reservation for 7:30 pm, as I entered on OpenTable- it showed very few time slots available.
We were pleased with the appetizer, which was the Castle chopped salad. The overpriced Malbec wine, not so much…very bland and way too pricey for a $14/glass. I'm a Malbec lover, and until now I had never had a bad Malbec… The service was soooo slow and amateurish- the 2 waiters seemed spaced out, walking aimlessly, seemed awkward, and mostly were nowhere to be seen even though they had 3 tables with 2 people each…The entrees were so bad!!! The duck was way undercooked, we had to send it back twice!!! And the waiter kept saying that it was our fault for ordering it medium rare- you could not even cut it with a knife! My lobster gnocchi was pretty bad, a very tiny portion and had a weird flavor. Because it was my mom's birthday, they did give her a tiny dessert on the house. I will not comment on its quality, as we did not pay for it. Not even an attempt to sing happy birthday!
We overheard the neighboring table (which said they'd been there 20-25 times before) when they send back the crab salad, and the waiter justified that they have a new chef. Well, if the owner is listening, make sure you hire and train your staff better. It is not acceptable to have such bland food and bad service for your caliber of a restaurant- this is also seen in the mostly empty tables.
Get with the program or you'll soon be out of business.
Couples out to dinner. Staff was top of the line. Food was outstanding. Price was what is expected for a beautiful place
Very pleasant surprise. Brought my girlfriend for post Valentine’s Day dinner. The food was excellent. Service was excellent, but slowed down somewhat when more diners showed up. They just needed more staff. I had venison chop. Very good. Cooked perfectly. Had mussels and chipotle coconut glazed shrimp. None of the flavors were overpowering, which was right. It snowed during our meal and the valets cleaned our car off. The only complaint was that the menu we had that night was not the one on the website. The crispy pork belly wasn’t available. They gave us a tuna tar-tar bite compliments of the chef but didn’t explain why. I also wish the menu had more variety. Too many seafood dishes and the dessert menu is limited. I want to go back during the day and better weather to enjoy it all.
I ordered a lunch crispy duck leg of $19, it turned out to be duck drum, like KFC size drum, not a leg.
Excellent appetizers - the Lumb Crab with the avocado creamy dressing was fabulous and the grilled Octopus delicious! The Venison chop entree also very tender and flavorful.
We've been wanted to try Equis but due to the high dinner prices we figured we'd try a regular Sunday breakfast. It didn't disappoint. The view in the sunroom is lovely and very special feeling. Cloth tablecloths and beautifully polished silver and special glasses and coffee from silver coffee pots made things extra special for this birthday breakfast for two. They have some wonderful options (and they did mention they were out of salmon as we sat down which I definitely appreciate in a restaurant before I see the menu and get my heart set on something they are out of!). The eggs benedict I had was just lovely and cooked to perfection. The hollandaise was just right too and you could taste the freshness of the ingredients. They were out of grapefruit juice but the orange juice almost tasted fresh squeezed although that wasn't mentioned in the menu so it may not have been. The pancakes with the blueberry compote and the vanilla cream with granola was heavenly too. Pricey, over $50 for two of us but a nice special treat.
Sadly, the poor service detracted from our evening to the point of ruin. The wait staff is simply not trained to work the front of the house. I actually feel sorry for them. Water glasses were refilled with tap while we were drinking bottled sparkling, questions about how a dish was prepared was met with a chuckle and had no idea how to answer it or how to get the answer. My hot soup was stone cold. It must have been forgotten about when it was up. A diner in our party requested a substitution which they then further substituted with no communication until it was served. I ordered tea but it was forgotten. Time between courses was dreadfully long. When I inquired as to what was the sauce accompanying my fish, the server had no idea and had to ask 2 other people before he could get the answer.
Poor service. Bland food and boring uncreative menu.

Atmosphere was stuffy. Fireplace a nice touch but was not tended to.
Service was just OK although our waiter was nice and tried hard.

Our family of four went to celebrate our twenty fifth wedding anniversary. It was mid week and we were seated in the charming room with a fireplace. The staff was attentive, professional yet not overbearing. The pace at which the meal was served was perfect! The food was good and one of us who is a vegetarian found reasonable options. We had a good time.
Service was so bad, food was average and did not make up for the poor service.
Had brunch on new year’s day. Sat in bright sunlight section with beautiful views of the Hudson. I recommend dining in this room during the day. The other dining area was darker with a fireplace. I’m sure it could make for a cozy dinner spot. First I had the yogurt parfait. Who knew yogurt could be so tasty? Then I had the blueberry and coconut pancakes. They were light and fluffy and delicious. No need for syrup. By the time I got to dessert I was stuffed. I ordered the pot d’ creme. It was served with a maple bourbon gelato. It too was delicious. The service was professional, but a little slow.
Very disappointing, heard so many good things was really looking forward to a nice evening. We were seated promptly upon arrival, but it appeared the table was added in a Walk way so it was a very odd feeling to be in everyone’s way. Tons of waitstaff running around but service was the worst I have had, the water was placed on the table and not poured (more than odd for this caliber of restaurant), my wife’s cocktail was served 25 minutes after it was ordered and we were through with the appetizer and only after I flagged someone down for the 2nd time to inquire where it was...my beef was ordered medium was served very rare but no one ever came back to the table to ask how everything was. I was also hoping to get another glass of wine and another bottle of sparkling but couldn’t get anyone’s attention. So the plates sat for awhile then it then suddenly picked up and dessert was put in front of us. Ice cream was already melted. Then again we sat for awhile (really wanted coffee but no one around again). The original waiter (we saw once and never brought the cocktail we ordered) suddenly came over and said “you need anything” so I gave up, asked for the check and laughed out loud when I saw he added a $44 gratuity as I then understood what the service was so poor.
