Very memorable and special.
From start to finish this dining experience was one of the most disastrous outings we've ever had.I can't even go into the whole thing but the service was awful; we were told the garden room was closed but it was packed with people and we were the only ones in the room next to it. It was cold; they seated us by the fire place, which didn't work, wait staff was busy running in and out of the garden room they totally forgot about us - food was OK, but for the price, should have been better. Dirty dishes on the window ledge and to top it off, the bellhop is walking through the restaurant with racks of luggage. I guess they assumed no one was eating in that room. We had gotten a call the week before our reservation that the garden room was under construction and would we mind sitting in a different room, which we didn't, except we were the only people placed in that room and the garden room was NOT under construction. They were clearly short staffed and totally forgot about us since everyone else was in the garden room. We spoke with the on staff manager of the restaurant who was very hard working and trying to keep it together, but I had to voice my dissatisfaction. I did, and they rightly compensated us for our meal, which was very nice, but I will NEVER go back to that place nor recommend it to anyone.
Wonderful meal with a scenic view for weekend.
From the moment we arrived it was an impeccable experience. The food and the wine were wonderful. The service was professional and unobtrusive. We were the last ones there and no one was ‘rushing’ us out. Heck even the nice man who got my car volunteered to take pictures and knew exactly where we should stand and made it like a photo shoot. A wonderful experience.
I hate when places ride on reputation or location. This place is in an incredible spot, w/ pretty scenery and potential. Booked a Sunday brunch on the fly, awesome property, foliage popping and what's not to like about a castle on a hill, overlooking the hudson on a clear day? How about zero service! I mean zero. Seated ourselves (no host or hostess) at a table in the dining room, which was a beautiful atrium, add-on to the main original building. Maybe there were 5 tables, total of 10 people trying to enjoy (get) breakfast and there were two servers, who seemingly had never set foot into a restaurant in their lives. Could not get coffee, so I got my own. Table next to me could not get a fork, so I gave them one of mine. Could not get milk, so I got my own. Another table next to me could not get anything including their bill, so they just walked out. There was half a buffet set up, half because the other half was gone and not replenished during the 45 excruciating minutes we sat there, anything off the a-la-carte menu was a black hole of an adventure and game of sands in the hourglass. Dead quiet ambiance, the only thing you heard were not so subtle complaints from the other tables and a tense, constant stream of the words "coming right up" followed by a constant stream of apologies for things that did not "come right up" like everything that was requested multiple times. I think I saw someone leave $2.00 on what was probably a $70.00 check. It was a needless trainwreck.....go hire some people, or get a manager or put some food out and call it a legit brunch. You get an A for scenery and an F for everything else. Absolutely s*cked and this is the worst review I have ever written in my life, sorry.
We had an incident where the fire alarm went off & the hotel had to be cleared for a few minutes. Despite this, we had a terrific time. Food & service was excellent. The management handled the situation in a very professional manner & adjusted our bill accordingly. We will definitely go back.
Equus is fantastic! I have dined there for brunch and dinner several times now, and I never cease to be amazed by the excellent food, service and atmosphere. Thank you for a great meal!
We ordered dinner at approximately 7 pm. Entrees weren’t served until 8:30 pm. The restaurant did send over a cheese platter, a glass of champagne for each of us and gave us complementary dessert
First time there—will be back. Excellent food, great service. Nice and quiet so you can hear conversation. A+ enjoyable experience.
We were staying at the hotel, so went to the restaurant after check-in. We were the only diners in the restaurant for the entirety of our meal, which was a little awkward for us and the servers, though also nice for my husband and me. The restaurant is quite large, so we wondered about that—they said it was because it was a Sunday night after checkout. The food was good, but not great. They were lovely about the fact that we were celebrating a special occasion and presented a complimentary dessert.
Very pretty dining room , the food is good and the service is nice but it could be improved, but overall it is a nice experience overlooking the Hudson.
This place is in a beautiful building and the service was very goodand a great view. However, it was way overpriced with small portions and although the food was good it wasn't great. It's a good place for people who don't know what else to do with their money and want to feel like the elite.
A bit disappointing. It had been a few years since we were last there, and the food has deteriorated. It used to be an excellent restaurant. Everything my wife and I had this time - mains and appetizers were bland and uninteresting. This is unacceptable for such a high priced establishment. There was nothing wrong with the ingredients, just that there was no special preparation and no interesting or tasty seasoning. Just mostly bland.
Outstanding service, and delightful food
The place is very beautiful and elegant. Food was excellent, really flavorful and refined, though the bread selection was very limited. Service was very poor, the waiters were not interested in attending us, perhaps they had not been trained. Restaurants of lower level offer much better service.
This was one of the worst restaurants we’ve ever went to the food was terrible.
While the grounds are beautiful the food was a complete disappointment.
This was our 1st time at Equus, and I chose it for my birthday since I heard there was a new, CIA-trained chef. The menu, on paper, looked amazing! The setting could not be more beautiful, and we were greeted warmly, although there was some misunderstanding about my request (through Open Table) to sit outside. When we asked, however, the staff graciously seated us outside for cocktails, even though there was an outdoor wedding reception happening. Our cocktails and the smoked corn bisque were fantastic; the quail appetizer was not seasoned and therefore less successful. My salmon was perfection; my husband's venison was overcooked and unappetizing in appearance and flavor. The spicy pumpkin dessert was inventive and delicious. So, while the food was uneven, we would return for the warm service and the beautiful setting.
Fantastic food, even better service. This restaurant is amazing. I had the lobster salad and truffle risotto. They were both absolutely delicious. Thank you!
Stunning incompetence, horrible food. We waited for our main course for an hour, not once did anyone come up to us to explain what was happening or to refill our wine and water glasses. When the food did arrive it was cold. Really cold. So we asked it to be reheated. Another 15 -20 minutes went by so we complained. The food came and it was inedible. The venison looked like mush and tasted as if it spent too much time in the microwave. We left without finishing the meal, evening ruined.
Service was not great
After a wonderful night at the Castle we enjoyed a lovely, quiet breakfast.
Whether the buffet or ordering off the menu ( which is what we did) you
could not go wrong.
Totally enjoyed it!
Great food and picturesque location.
Beautiful historic venue. Service was impeccable without feelIng overly stuffy. Great for a special occasion.
A special place for special occasions. The menu is eclectic and modern. The service is wonderful and thoughtful.
Beautiful and creative cuisine. We were so delighted to have a great time. We are from Japan, and searched on the Internet. We had been looking forward to the dinner, and deserved it! Thank you!
Went to the spa, that was a wonderful experience in every way.
Went to dinner at Equus, the chairs were all dirty. Daughter found the sticker on her tomato. The duck was plated upside down. Tuna was stringy.
Just all around poor experience.
A few tweaks needed. The food was absoluteldelicious! All courses, terrific! Staff not so great. It seemed there was only one person for the room and he was overwhelmed. We ordered Aperol spritzs for our cocktail and he asked us how to make them. Actually, the recipe is on the bottle. When they came, worse one I ever had. I don’t understand how a restaurant of this caliber didn’t know how to make them. Getting the check was a big confusion as well. Too bad as food was delightful. This was
Gourmet menu. Friendly staff, but everything takes a long time. While we were not in any hurry, it seemed like an eternity. Surprisingly, for a long, slow gourmet meal, the price was relatively reasonable. The setting is beautiful.
This was a disappointing experience. This restaurant is located in a beautiful setting and I had made a reservation to sit at the terrace. When we arrived although it was a beautiful day we were told we could not have dinner at the terrace. No reason other than they were short on staff was given. This is odd since the terrace not far from the kitchen (it is adjacent to the room).
The service was slow and not very attentive. The food was disappointing as well.
It is too bad as this was one of the rare restaurant to offer outside seating in a beautiful spot! We have been several times over the years and in the last two years or so, the food has not been great.
Excellent farm fresh food. The preparation of the chicken and duck was phenomenal! The staff was extremely accomodating. Overall 5 stars!
I loved my August 23rd lunch which surpassed my high expectations. I can't wait to go back to this magical and indescribable place that seems to be too good to be real. You will have to see for yourself.
My (now fiance) and I have been visiting this AWESOME castle for the past 3 years on the same day for her birthday, and this time we got ENGAGED!!! This phenomenon venue is exquisite and lives up to the expectation of an unforgettable dinning experience. From the minute we pull up to the castle and are greeted by professional valet to the grand finale if a farewell experience on behalf of the venue overseer, our experience is always a beautiful memory.
The good: Dramatic stone castle venue. Not so good: The chef, servers and other staff go through the motions. But all is just mediocre except the venue.
Beautiful view of the Hudson. Small portions of food but food was superb. Jazz group was excellent,
We were in town for the weekend and decided to have a romantic dinner at the Castle. We were not disappointed with the food, wine and service. Lovely view of the Hudson River, and the Castle grounds.
Very expensive for the quality of the food
Outstanding in every way. The superb food and ambiance was further enhanced by the service ; each member of the staff, from the valet parking attendant to the hostess to the waiter, to the maitre d' , made us feel as if we were the most important people in the room. A most memorable dining experience.
Wonderful meal with a scenic view for a special day.
