I ordered the rigatoni and it wasn't good. My husband had the zuchinni and brie soup and shrimp and grits and they were very good. Our server was polite but needed a little more training. Dean Corbett was out in the dining area on three different occasions, but only conversed with ones he knew. It would have been nice if he had acknowledged others in the dining area.
Perfect for dinner out and a special occasion. The service was friendly and the company of the other diners was comfortable. The food was excellent. The menus, while eclectic, was limited. The only real complaint was our seating. We were two women dining between shopping and theater and not regulars. We were seated near wait station and the restroom. There was other available the entire time we were there. We have this experience often. (We chose not to say anything this time, but it is disappointing.)
Took us over an hour to get our food. Server was great, but the amount of time it took to get drinks and food was ridiculous. You’d think this was a new restaurant opening, and not a seasoned restaurantuer running the place.
My steak was tough as nails. I won’t be going back any time soon.
Everything was decent except for the service. We were the first one in the restaurant that evening but were the last ones who were in the restaurant at the time to get served. The explanation given was that our order somehow got shuffled to the end of the line. We had reservations to the theatre. This caused us to quickly try to eat and not really enjoy the food. And we got to the theatre late....:(

Took more than one hour at table before even being given opportunity to order dinner. Then another hour to get food. As an added bonus appetizers were delivered by a gentleman who couldn't have been crankier.
Really disappointing service. Waiter tried and was a good guy but very understaffed.

Overpriced menu--$22 fried chicken
Two star food--mushy, watery shrimp; wedge salads w shriveled bacon, a single cherry tomato and cheap bleu cheese dressing
It should be noted, though, that mushroom fume' continues to the best in N America
Love this restaurant! I had the pork chop which is served on the bone and is a thick chop. It was so moist and flavorful. The brussel sprouts were excellent. I think even if you do not like brussel sprouts , you will like these. They are roasted and nutty in flavor. We had shrimp cocktail for an appetizer. The shrimp were sweet and meaty. My husband had the special which was walleye served over a red pepper coulis . He downed that dish like there is no tomorrow. My husband is usually a slow eater. We also had red sangrias for drinks, which came with lots of beautiful fresh fruit. The service is outstanding! Ryan and Scott who manage the restaurant always stop by our table to say hello. Well done Guys!!!!! Well done!
This was my wife and I' s 2nd time dining here and we are going to visit much more often now. This was a fantastic experience, the dining room is dimly lit with candlelight on the tables, it is upscale and elegant but you will feel right at home with casual dress. The servers and wait staff are very professional and acomidate your every dining need.
On to the dinner, we had 4 courses with perfectly timed arrivals of each one. We started with the Nachos and they are single layered chips just like the first Nachos I had back in the 70s as a child, these were extremely flavorful. Our salads came next and my wedge with artichoke hearts and perfectly ripened grape tomatoes drizzled with the best blue cheese dressing I ever had. My wife had the warm brussel sprout salad and said it was the best salad she has ever eaten. I ordered the 36 hour brisket and it did not disappoint, it came with carolina bbq sauce and German potatoes that both offered a tangy compliment to the beef. Shiitake mushrooms were generously topping the dish and the meat was so tender it literally melted in my mouth, and the portion size was surprisingly large, so much that I didn't know if I could finish it even with my big appetite. My wife decided to get the fish sandwich and fries as recommended by our daughter and it did not disappoint. Finally we finished with the chess cake and a tiramisu cake and they also were delicious.
We feel this is how a special dinner experience should be with pauses in between each course so your food can settle a bit in between and discussion about each others food can be enjoyed. 5 stars all the way.
We must have caught Equus on a bad night . Didn't seem to be busy even thought it was a Saturday night but our entrees were very, very slow coming out from the kitchen. Food was good, not great as it usually is here. We were seated near the bar, so very quick cocktail service. Given the prices and competition in town, Equus needs to be consistent .
I had the brisket which was melt in your mouth good. It was paired with German potatoe salad which the vinegar in the German potatoe really balanced the smokiness of the brisket. Fantastic pairing. My husband had the seafood bouillabaisse which he said was perfect . He said the broth was divine and the clams were perfect. Great service was delivered and we loved it. Jacks Lounge is my favorite go to place.
I love Jack's but am sorry to say that it was a disappointment Monday evening. Service was VERY slow. My Mushroom Fume (that I always love) was only lukewarm. I ordered a salad with chicken, and was told that our dinner was held up because of fixing the chicken but that would be hard to believe....it was dry and tasteless. My hudbsnd's boullabaise was good and our friend's dishes were okay except for the wait, but in all......disappointing and not like the usual!!! I should have sent it back, but certainly didn't want to wait any longer after such a long time anyway!
We have eaten at Jack's before and always had a nice experience. Monday was a disaster. The service was not good. The waitress seemed unable to keep straight what was ordered, when to bring drinks, etc. We waited over 1 1/2 hours to get our food. Our food looked and tasted as if it had been left under a heat lamp for a long, long time. It was a most disappointing evening.
A Louisville icon, this restaurant never seems to lose its touch. I'd like to see the menu offer fish without coating or heavy sauce, but that's a quoible - the duck I ordered was excellent.
We like to visit other restaurants in the Ville, but when you're tired of experiment and noise, you can count on a quality experience from Equus.
