Equus and Jack's Lounge
The host gave us a "special" table for our anniversary; the waiter was exceptional, very entertaining and interactive; the food was very good, not great. Great ambiance
Dined with a couple to celebrate a birthday. We enjoyed great salmon-crab entrée, burgers and good bottle of red wine. Service was excellent from Kristie. Great bar crowd.
Always our go to for meals out with friends! Great ambiance!
So the meal starts off with rolls. Basically the Hawaiian rolls you buy at the grocery store. The "tater tots" are balls of mashed potatoes fried - ball of fried goo. I think maybe that's just a renaming thing. The vegan steak alfredo was mediocre. I heard good things about this place, so maybe I just had a bad experience. The entire dining room was reserved for a private party so we sat outside and battled flies the whole time. The service was in fact great.. so that was the only highlight.
Food is average. Menu could be improved for the price;
Menu choices are boring and bland.
I am a regular and the service was terrible for this evening. Server was no where to be found when needed. Had to ask other servers for assistance.
wounderful date night. the waitress and staff were very attentive. loved the round table in the back - perfect for conversation. this is one of our favorite places especially because of the half off wine prices on monday night.
Service was excellent. Atmosphere was great. Felt quite welcomed. But the food was not what I thought it should be. In the past it was wonderful.
We have been wanting to try Equus. It was not very busy. Our server was good, had a good personality. It took a while to get our food, he forgot to order our drinks and never came back for us to pay our bill. We had to go looking for him and someone else finally came to take our payment. The food was great.
We love the bar at Equus, Jack's, it is a great bourbon bar. The food is always good. We try to branch out but mostly come back to our favorites, the fried chicken and kale, or the pot roast. We are never disappointed and would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes to be able to actually talk with your dinner guest while you eat.
Everything on the menu is great.
We had not been to Equus for a while and were so happy with our choice. The food was delicious, the ambiance perfect and we could hear our conversation with out strain. The waiter was experienced, efficient and friendly. For those rare scotch drinkers, the list of single malts is well rounded and extensive. Unfortunately, the bar was out of my fav but there were many other choices. Thoroughly enjoyable evening and I can't wait to go back.
For a simple and very good dinner for all four of us, we were pleased. This is our third trip to Jack's this year, and it never disappoints. The entrees go from a simple hamburger to a first class and expensive entree - so all tastes and pocketbooks are accomedated. Beautiful service!
My husband and I made A birthday reservation for my mom’s 87th birthday. I requested seating in the restaurant on open table, but when we got there we were seated in the lounge. We did have very good service, but the food was deplorable starting with the appetizer and ending w the dessert. The calamari and crab cake appetizers were both fried in the exact same batter. There was no spice or flavor to either appetizer, just fried in a thick batter. The Cesar salad tasted so far from what a Cesar salad tastes. The dressing tasted like a basaltic, not a Cesar, and had no Parmesan, and the croutons were soggy, grease filled squares. Also, the bread served at the table was just like they got it from Kroger n the bread isle and looked and tasted just like King Hawaiian rolls. The bread was truly sad for a fine dining experience. My husband and I both ordered the Parmesan encrusted sea bass, and it, too, tasted identical to the calamari and the crab cake appetizers. There was nothing delicate or flavorful about this sea bass. I’m not even sure it was sea bass. It came out in this thick layer of fried batter accompanied on top of a scant order of mashed potatoes. There was very little attention to detail in preparation of our dinner. Mom had the pasta with chicken and the chicken in her dish even seamed like processed chicken cut up in perfect, small squares. There was nothing special about her dish either. For dessert my husband ordered lemon cheese cake and my mom got a birthday dessert on the house called chess pie/cake that was pretty good. My husband’s lemon cheese cake, on the other hand, was so stale and old that it should have been thrown out a week ago. It was a joyous experience to celebrate my mother’s 87th birthday, but very disappointed that we weren’t sitting around the table raving about the food. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It’s time they stepped up their game and rethought their menu. I can’t believe people return for a second dining
Pork dish was good however dry needed more sauce but potatoes overdone. Salmon very good but potatoes overcooked. Used extra sauce form pork dish and that made salmon much better
Loved butter dish but bread was very disappointing
Service was spotty. We ordered an appetizer, salad and main course The appetizer and salad were served at the same time and then a long wait for the main course. Also very long wait to have our bottle of wine served.
Always great food and service. I had the lobster risotto, and it was fantastic. Torri always remembers what I like, and brings me my drink when I come in. That is special. Great to see Gary back . Always a treat to see him!
Upon arrival we were shown to our table. It was in the back of the restaurant and near the doorway for staff. It was the least desirable table in the room. We requested another table and were accommodated without hesitation.
The spinach salads with grapes, walnuts and blue cheese crumbles were excellent. My husband loved his NY strip steak - cooked perfectly. I enjoyed my chicken fettuccine Alfredo with broccolini and tomatoes. It was a nice evening and we will be back!
Derby weekend. The Derby menu seemed decent for the price but the place seemed to have kids working. The food came way to fast that we had to say slow down. The steak turned out to be a slice of a roast. We ordered a special coffee which came cold with no whip cream which for us is the only way it should be prepared. The girl took it back and warmed it up but no whip cream. The salad was obvious it had been sitting in a fridge because it was very cold which means it was pre made and just pulled from the fridge. Does Derby weekend mean taking advantage of tourists? $250.00 for 2. My God.
We had the Derby prix fixe menu and it was outstanding! Scallops and risotto followed by KY farm salad, sea bass and excellently prepared filet were all delicious. Service was excellent and wine list good.
Very nice cozy interior, especially for a "strip mall" area. Reminds you of a nice, dark homey library. Service was awesome. Tori, our server was an absolute blast and knows how to take care of people. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and would definitely come back again.
WE had 3 couples in town for Derby and went to Jack's bar for bourbon cocktails and then dinner at Equus. Everyone loved the atmosphere and our food was all delicious. This is a great neighborhood bar and restaurant, with very good service. They leave you alone to visit and talk, and are quick to refill drinks and check to see when you would like to be seated. Several guests had the fried chicken and kale and loved it. All our dinners were great and not a bite was left. Diffinently a place we will frequent and a really lovely place to take guests.
Very nice evening even as it was Derby week. We sat outside, the new beverage and food manager was extremely helpful with our meal selections as well as our wine selection.
First time to Equus and Jack’s. I’m always looking for new restaurants to explore. It was very nice, cozy, wonderful ambiance. Saw an old friend, which added to the experience. Went on a date night with my wife. Our appetizer was the cheese tray which was super. I had the New York strip, which came with a sauce which was unusual, but very tasty. My wife ate the salmon and said it was delicious. We shared a bottle of wine, 19 Crimes, which had a wonderful bouquet, soft and smooth. Dessert was the creme brûlée’s, my favorite. Overall we enjoyed our experience and look forward to returning.
Always dependable for good food and service. Was VERY crowded when we went, so noise level was a bit loud, but as some left, it was so much better. Pouring rain outside kept some inside longer than usual!
First time eating at Equus and was not very impressed. We will not be coming back. We were celebrating 2 birthdays. Table was pretty much in the middle of the aisle used to come into the room...my husband had to completely get up out of his chair to let a man in a motorized scooter pass through. Food was not great...I had the fried chicken which I had read was really good. It had a lot of crunchy skin that would flake off and mediocre tasting chicken. Broccoli was overcooked. Prices were fine, service was fine. We were a table of 4, all in our late 30s and we were by far the youngest people there, not a big deal, but just something else to mention.
They were so accommodating to seat 8 of us in their lounge, and we loved our server, Ryan!
The only problem was the steak on the steak salad was tough. Liked the drink list and the appetizers especially.
We enjoyed our dinner very much. My husband asked for substitutions for potatoes with our pot roast and the server was very accommodating. Prices were very reasonable for our food and drinks. We will go back.
The crab cakes were cold in the center, the wings were undercooked and bloody. We didn’t say anything. We had out of town guests and I did not want to complain.
The service was the best part of the evening. Ryan was our server. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. He did a fantastic job.
Jack’s is always a great meal, but this was just not in par. I hope it was just a one off experience because we really enjoy the atmosphere here.
Table 46 ended up being great. Table 25 was too close to another party of 4 and table 26 was too bright. But the fried chicken was amazing.
Excellent dinner and service. Very enjoyable. Will return.
the waiter was handsome and funny - a nice combination. all staff members were very attentive. we had a wonderful time.
Lovely restaurant great bar. Food was delicious and very nice professional service. We will be back for more! The fried chicken was the best I have eaten in a restaurant. The pork tenderloin is very tender and great flavors.
We’ve always loved this restaurant But the last two visits proved that we will probably never go back. Ambience , decor very nice. But food is more important. Shrimp special was $28 and was baby shrimp, stir fried? And with what appeared as sweet and sour sauce. No flavor but the grease it was fried in. Served on mashed potatoes??
Worse yet, food was cold. No excuse. Even st 7:00 the restaurant was not busy. Crab cakes appetizer also cold.
No flavor st all. Brown and serve rolls for bread. And we had to ask for it. Was not worth the wait .
Suggestions... go back to your old menu. With a few tweaks for updating with new items plus the old but outstanding service.
Please know I do not usually complain about restaurants like yours. We eat out a lot. It’s our entertainment .
It was our 2nd Anniversary celebration, this place is where we spent our wedding dinner and again they didn’t miss a beat. Our guests loved this place as it was the first time to this restaurant. Our steaks were done to perfection and our guest meals they could stop talking about the quality coming out of the kitchen. Thanks for making our evening wonderful!!
Great experience !! only thing missing .....a laid back easy jazz guitar...
Service was impeccable. Dirty dishes were quickly removed, glasses were refilled immediately and staff was constantly attentive to our meal status. Unfortunately our foursome were not totally satisfied with their meals. While my particular choice was quite good, my wife ordered a medium rare filet which she found was over cooked. She chose to eat it rather than complain and did acknowledge that it was well flavored. Another of our party ordered chicken sausage pasta, which was certainly abundant, but he said it found it oddly bland.
We just discovered this place and we will be regulars now. The service is amazing. Food is delicious. The atmosphere is great. It's a great date night restaurant. It's quiet and intimate. I highly recommend.
The food was good but was Luke warm. The service was good
