Epulo Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Always a pleasure to revisit epulo! Ever since this cozy bistro opened, we've come here about twice a year for a parental meal out. Sharing plates here is a fun way to sample delicious, creative food. Wood fired items a special signature here. The gnocchi with arrabiato sauce was wonderful on a chilly winter evening, the gnocchi were light, delightfully seared on one side, went beautifully with the spicy arrabiato with studs of kalamata olives. Roasted cauliflower this outing was a tad underdone to me, would prefer the grana padano grated to better coat the florets. Toasted bread with burrata was lovely stuff, could have used some more fennel, a little balsamic would have made it even better.
The problem that we encountered was that our table was situated next to the kitchen. There was noise aplenty as used dishes and silverware were brought directly next to our table -- often dropped on the floor or thrown into the bin for the dishwasher. This all happened behind me so that it always came as a surprise. After a half hour, I just wanted to get out of the restaurant. Too bad.
This dinner was done on Valentine's Day, so I expected it to be busy and crowded. That isn't the issue. We did the special occasion chef's dinner. The food was ok, nothing special and a couple of the dishes were just not well planned or executed. The timing of the courses was terrible. We waiting and then got 1 course and then the second a couple of minutes later. Then that happened again. The server was very polite and was very helpful, even offered some free soup.
The holiday might have been the cause for the delays, but the food was not special occasion food for the HIGH price.
It was Valentines 2018 and crazy busy. They were doing there best to take care of everyone with great attitudes. The atmosphere was perfect, service great no excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. As always, they did not disappoint on theis special night with my Beautiful lady. Thank you Epulo Bistro staff!!
Although we were very unhappy about being seated in the bar the night was a success. On Vday the place is very busy & the bar couldn't be avoided because we were a party of 5. They made it right with a nice bottle of wine for free & a heart felt we're sorry.
The food is always great as their special menu's are always a treat. Service is always above the norm. One of our guest even stated "this is the best dinner I've ever had" & that says a lot!
Clams were very tasty but the deep fried calamari and rock shrimp had too much breading which fell off the fish. Wine was good, service was great! We tried 2 different desserts, pumpkin cake and the chocolate decadence type cake with the oreo crust. We thought both were delicious and not overly sweet...
There are many excellent restaurants in Edmonds and Epulo is at the top of our list.
We can always rely on an interesting menu, helpful service, and tasty preparation. Saturday was our 30th wedding anniversary and we wanted a special restaurant for the occasion. Epulo did not disappoint. Our waiter was Dustin who made several helpful menu suggestions. Our thanks to him and to everyone who helped make a special evening for a special occasion.
We were SO disappointed after reading all the reviews we looked forward to dining here while on a short visit to Edmonds.
Our waitperson was okay, we ordered and the meal did not arrive for AN HOUR! We never saw her come by at all in that time. When the food came out I was extremely disappointed in my pasta entree and she DID offer to get me something else - but I wasn't going to wait another hour! The pasta was smothered in a very strong and tart tomato red sauce which overshadowed the Guanciale. My husband had the duck entree with potatoes and he said it was good, nothing extraordinary - and the portion was on the small side.
We stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for dining options in Edmonds. We reserved a table for 2 an hour ahead on OpenTable and moved to the front of the line. LOVED the grapefruit martini made with Elderflower Liqueur. We each had a salad and shared a Puttanesca pizza and enjoyed both very much. I want to go back and try some other dishes.
Epolu has a limited but creative menu of shared dishes. The Penn Cove mussels were quite good (hot and with plentiful broth). We actually returned the next night and order the mussels again. This time there were barely warm with much less broth. Not sure what the standard is.
The shared veggie plates were also quite good.
The staff at Epulo always takes great care of us. Their service and attention to detail is outstanding. Their food is always delicious and we got a little lesson on where their salami recipes originated from the guy who makes all the house made meats. Delicious!!
We will be back again soon.
When we arrived at the restaurant, the music was much too loud. This was eventually corrected. Our service was great. The food was bland. We were surprised because we have had great meals in the past. We will probably try again, but it was an off night for sure.
As usual, this restaurant is a winner. I have visited here with friends and family at least a dozen times and have never been disappointed. Sure they get the odd thing wrong here and there but not enough to stop me going. If ever there is a mistake they are quick to fix it. Food is always over hi-standard (even when the place is busy) and the list of daily specials is always appealing. I do like the small plate options that way you can have a taste of many things rather than just one main course. Service is always excellent. If you are looking for a friendly Night Out in Edmonds you'd have to go a long way to beat this place
