My sisters, my mom and I all went to Epoch to take advantage of the Portsmouth Restaurant Week special menu. The options were varied and the food was fantastic. We enjoyed a Sauvignon Blanc and a Malbec off of the wine list...both were wonderful. The Restaurant Week menu was a great value and we enjoyed ourselves very much. Would definitely recommend Epoch to anyone looking to dine in a really interesting historical building with a nice atmosphere and delicious food!
Good food in a great ambience
We always enjoy dinner at the Exeter inn . The food is excellent and the people are very welcoming and friendly. Nice table setting and the wine is reasonably priced.
The food was wonderful-we waited for a while before being greeted and having our drink orders taken but after that the service was good
The food was great and the presentation was creative . We were a group of four friends, some with hearing difficulties and the dining room was quiet enough so that all could enjoy the conversation . Not always the case in most restaurants lately . We will definitely be back .
In my online reservation I noted that this was for a birthday. Evidently staff didn't get the message
It was a great meal. My husband had the scallops and I had the veal. My veal dish could have used more veal but it was very tasty. The salad and appetizer were very good too. Everything overall was good. It was a nice evening.
Food was excellent, but dining room is cramped.
Food was awesome, staff very attentive and accommodating.
We eat here every couple months. One meal was sent back twice to get the steak "Well Done". It came off the bill and didn't ruin the night. Staff and manager were very accommodating. For the other three meals they were outstanding and they sent beignets for dessert. It was a great evening.
The food was outstanding, as was the service. The room has high ceilings and nothing to absorb the noise. When it's crowded it is very noisy and hard to carry on a conversation.
Special occasion dinner.
Table was long and narrow. Felt like we were dining with the table next to us. Nearly impossible to have a private conversation.
Waitress was unpersonable and unattentive. No bread or extra water.
Salmon entree was very good but small and pricey. Steak was good and cooked to order.
The food was very good and came out hot and in a timely fashion despite being Valentine's Day and extremely crowded. We arrived 45 minutes early expecting to wait at the bar for a glass of wine. The maître de was able to fit us in immediately without having to wait at all. Limited menu and fixed price for the evening but the entree choices were diverse as were the other two courses.
Chose Epoch for a special Valentines Day dinner. The meal options were preset but the choices were all interesting. We both enjoyed what we ordered; the lamb was the best I have ever had. Management was around regularly to see that all was well. Pricey but worth it.
The food was good. Did not blow me away.
Our waitress was very good but the food runner was subpar. Brought our entree and did not clear our bread or appetizer plates. We had no room in the table and my entree plate was half in my lap. As soon as our waitress saw this it was rectified.
The cocktails were ok. The bigger issue was for $13 I would expect A FULL DRINK. both my husband and had half glass cocktails over ice. Not worth $13.
Ambiance was very nice. And even on a busy Friday it felt cozy and relaxed.
Great meal. We’ve been quite a few times and have never been disappointed in the food. Compliments to the chef!
Our food was amazing, however our bartender was terrible. Bad attitude. Bad service, overheard her gossiping about us to a coworker. Will not return as long as she's there...I think her name was Stacey. Thin, older, brown hair.
We arrived for our reservation and NO ONE was in the restaurant or the bar area. No bartender, host/hostess or waitstaff. No customers- obviously they were not open.
Checked with the front desk of the Exeter Inn and the receptionist “didn’t know”. Found another great restaurant for lunch in Exeter
We had our first kid-free New Year's Eve in years and we wanted a romantic, quiet dinner. Too bad there was a wedding happening in the next room and it was VERY loud. I'm all for a fun wedding, but maybe get better sound-proofing or warn dinner guests that there is an event happening when the reservations are made? If we didn't have to deal with the thumping sound like we were at a rave, it would have been a very romantic dinner. If we had known there was a wedding happening, we would have eaten somewhere else that night. Also, my husband ordered the crab cake appetizer for $8 and it was one tiny crab cake barely bigger than a silver dollar - not worth it. On a good note, I had the sweet potato bisque which was delicious and we enjoyed our entrees (salmon and flank steak).
Poor experience, would not do it again. Bad service , leaking ceiling.
We had a wonderful time at the Exeter in the service and the food was outstanding
Lunch was delightful, as always. You can not beat their tasty cup of soup and half a sandwich or a salad . Always a wonderful lunch time treat!
Excellent brunch, the crispy home fries, $5 Mimosas a plus. We’ll be back!
Busy when we arrived but despite the crowd, the service was attentive. Delicious food, too. Love the seared tuna.
Epoch Restaurant is consistently reliable, always good food and a very good waitstaff. Management checks in once during a meal, which is appreciated. Always a good "special" on the menu. This is our go-to restaurant!
We had a great time at Sunday Brunch with 3 children and 3 adults. The service was great and the food was very good. Lovely restaurant in Exeter.
Great meal, as usual!
Went for restaurant week. Food was outstanding. Ordered restaurant weeks menu plus a few apps and all were fantastic. Can’t wait to go back
My husband and I are local to Exeter, but we had never been until recently. It has the perfect balance of elegance without pretension, and the food, most importantly, is excellent.
The food and service was great! We have been there several times and then and are very impressed!
Very good food - attention to detail - service is excellent. Special place.
We had an awful experience. The manager took the food off the bill. The food was terrible. Under cooked scallops swimming in polenta soup. Awful! Over seasoned to the point it was inedible. Our waitress was rude and inattentive. I just would not recommend this restaurant. To many of the reviews even say the food is to salty.
One of the worst dining experiences ever. Over an hour from order to appetizer coming out.
This place never disappoints us! We always have delicious food and cocktails! Their burger is TO DIE FOR and they had Poutine as an appetizer which was delicious! We love french fries! Definitely recommend this spot!
Background noise from a DJ disrupted conversation at our table
Consistently delicious food, fantastic service, and warm atmosphere - always a wonderful dining experience.
We have stayed at Exeter Inn twice but never thought to eat at Epoch. We were turned off by the very out of date decor. Figured the food would match the ambiance. We were very pleasantly surprised! The food was very tasty and beautifully presented. The service was good and the maitre 'd was very personable and attentive. It was a very busy weekend for the Inn (Exeter Academy parents weekend) but the entire experience was very good!
I dine here frequently and I am never disappointed. The atmosphere is perfect. The staff is attentive and friendly. The food is fresh and beautifully prepared. The menu is interesting and creative. I often have trouble with my choices. Today I chose the New England BLT with lobster salad. It was all perfect. The home made bread perfectly toasted. The Applewood Bacon thickly cut and perfectly crisp. Fresh garden tomatoes. The lobster salad had huge pieces of lobster meat with a light dressing. It came with a side of home made hand cut potato chips. I also had a side of beet salad with goat cheese. Again, a perfect and fresh selection. I will be back.
We never are disappointed with the food or ambience here! The new menu items are delicious, like the mushroom ravioli, and the old menu items continue to be consistent, such as the fish and chips or the various salads. It's always delicious!
Epoch offered a complete dining experience to my family. I highly recommend this establishment!
