   Terrible experience.. a very long wait, extremely expensive brunch. They forgot the eggs on our eggs Benedict, other parts CB of orders also missing. Home fries just deep fried cubes no seasoning. Crab cakes were terrible… Will never go back.. expected more from the classic hotel

   food was just okay, nothing special, and no one ever came back to refill the waters or ask us how our breakfast was.

   I went to dinner with 2 friends and we all ordered cocktails, the cauliflower appetizer and fish and chips. The bar service was extremely slow. We had to ask where our drinks were after 15-20 minutes, The cauliflower appetizer was delicious. We ordered the fish and chips previously and it was delicious. But this time, 2 orders of the fish and chips were undercooked. We were able to eat around the undercooked part. The waitress said she was sorry but we still were charged for our meals. The Exeter Inn is a great spot but it is hit or miss with service and food quality.

   It was a quiet Tuesday night. The food was good but not over the top memorable. Service was a bit slow given that there were few diners. The server was personable, though.

   Limited but imaginative menu calculated to appeal to the clientele of the Exeter Inn, many of whom are parents or grandparents of students at Phillips Exeter Academy But the restaurant also caters to Exeter at large. On a Wednesday night, with few customers, our reception and the bar and food service were flawless. Of the four dishes the two of us ordered, all but one -- a steak -- was perfectly prepared and presented. The steak was overdone. When the waiter asked and was told this, he reported it to the kitchen and the maître d'. The latter came over to apologize and offered to replace the overdone steak with a medium-rare one When we declined this, he offered us complementary desserts. We were happy to accept them. We will be back, confident that the restaurant is trying hard to do its best, to give the chef another chance, and to see whether the wait staff can perform as well on a busier night.

   Entire experience was horrible. Place was understaffed, was out of the first three things we ordered and an after an hour we got our food and it was wrong and cold. Our waitress was lovely and everything else was beyond poor.

    I had been to this restaurant many times in the past, but it's been a few years since I last went. It is not as good as I remember it. The menu is limited, and the portions were small for the price. There were not many people there, so I guess I am not the only one who feels this way.
