As we are local and have eaten at the Inn on multiple occasions over multiple years. it was surprising how bland/bad the food was. It stated with the bread basket, Olive Bread? A Caesar Salad that was bland, zero flavor. We have in the past ordered dessert but based on the meal, why take the chance. I have used Open Table for 3 years and this is the first time I have written a response.
Mushroom Melt Toast - yum! ............
They did not have enough help. After sitting down and then ordering our food, we waited for more than an hour before we decided to leave. We left cash for 1 soup and 1 beer plus a few extra dollars. There were many unhappy patrons. Wrong cocktail being made wrong two times, no bread brought to many, the bill trying to be paid, but no one picking it up! Sad, but also annoying when you pan a special night out! If there is not enough help, do not accept so many reservations! You can’t have it both ways, truly disappointing!
Valentine’s Day dinner. The fixed menu had some items that were not good and served cold. Over priced charged for what was served
Our food was undercooked and we got serval wrong orders. The valentine's menu was absolutely horrible. Even having made a reservation the host didn't have our names on the list.
It was a very special Valentines Day dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. The evening couldn’t have been any better. As always the food and the entire staff were wonderful. We have never had a bad experience at Epoch. Thank you all for making our evening very special.
Service was very poor
Can tell that staff was not trained properly
When you pay premium for Valentines Day dinner one expects something extra in return
Will not come back again
We have been here several times for brunch and loved it. I have to say, Valentine’s Day dinner was terrible. The food was cold and not that palatable. Portions were also very small. Very long wait time between courses. At least my company was amazing so it just became a joke. We paid almost $250 and left hungry. Disappointing. We will stick to brunch in the future.
As usual, Epoch Restaurant at the Exeter Inn (In Exeter, NH) has a non-typical menu. The chefs preparation is usually very good and atmosphere upscale.
We enjoy the ambience with great service and food.
The overall experience was good. the salad was over dressed. The drinks were generous. We were sitting at our table for almost an hour before any food was brought to us. We had to ask for bread after the salad was brought. The appetizer arrived with the salad. The dinners were good but not generous. Overall if the attention to detail was better, the experience would have been better.
The only negative comment I can say is the lunch menu is very limited. The beef short rib stew was amazingly flavorable. Every item ordered was tasty.
I really wanted to like this place, however, it wasn't meant to be. From a flavorless, watery, Caesar salad to a flavorless tempura (they called it a fritto misto) it was just a downslide of mediocre to bad food. The entrees were no better. Service was okay and attentive for the most part, however, I find it unacceptable to be given to go boxes to pack up myself at the table. This is supposed to be a better restaurant, take it to the back or the server station and pack it up, please. All in all, just save yourself the disappointment and avoid the place. High ceilings with no sound dampening mechanisms added to the din.
This was the first time we've had dinner here since they got a new chef. We were very pleased. I loved the grilled salmon, and my husband really enjoyed the monkfish.
Had a wonderful meal. Waitress was very attentive, leaving us with a well cared for feeling. Would highly recommend for any special occasion.
My companion and I had a very leisurely lunch. The restaurant was quiet, which we appreciated since it is hard for older people to hear in crowded, noisy restaurants. The food was excellent and service was prompt and attentive.
Met our “earliest-open, nearest” requirements. Nothing to write home about.
Epoch has a great menu and a very enjoyable Sunday brunch. Bar area is on the small size but very intimate Adult beverages are a healthy portion and they also serve several local craft beers on tap. Nice place for a dinner or family function. I highly recommend The Epoch Restaurant. Always a good time, good food, and pleasant atmosphere.
We came for what we'd heard was the best burger in Exeter and we did not leave disappoionted.
We found the menu interesting, although it is not up to date online. With distant overhead lighting in the dining room, we found the ambiance lacked intimacy; Being in the spotlight is great on stage, less so at dinner. Still, we had an excellent meal and will happily return at some point. The burgers in particular are excellent. The beef is clearly fresh and high quality, and the toppings are not skimped on and if I recall correctly, locally sourced. Worth the trip, without a doubt.
It was our one year wedding anniversary and we waited 20 minutes after being seated to even have someone come over. I had to tell the hostess nobody came over. It was embarrassing to try and have a nice dinner with my wife to celebrate and have subpar service.
We had reservations for New Year's Eve (2019) which offered a pre-fixe menu. The food was very good, however, the entrees were the size of appetizers. My husband ordered the tenderloin. The portion was approximately 3 oz., and the potatoes were the size of a butter pat which was under the tenderloin. There were 2 asparagus on the side. We have been to Epoch before for New Year's Eve when they offered their full menu which was excellent. The inn is lovely, but we felt like we had a selection of appetizers for dinner rather than a regular size entrée. I ordered the scallops, which were delicious, however, there were only 4 very small pieces.
Great food, just wish helpings we a bit larger.
Food was very very good
Great new years dinner with great service. Flexible menu for vegetarians.
Dinner was delectable and the cookie skillet simply worth every calorie.
I would make the extra trip here just for the food. We dined here during our stay at The Exter Inn and will be returning for sure! The menu was a bit small, however, had a variety of food to choose from. The service was a little weird, we had multiple waitresses during dinner. Other than that, everything was perfect.
I made a reservation for lunch....when we got there, there was no one in the dining room to welcome us....nor seat us....I had to walk around to find someone who would tell us what to do for seating....the person behind the bat said...."Just go find a place you want to sit...." It was like, "ok you are here, just find some place and sit....." I was not impressed at all....and disappointed in the service at that point.....
The food was quite good though.....
It was not the quality that I expected from The Inn.....
Food was fabulous and the service was great!
I would absolutely recommend this restaurant.
My egg scramble was dry and overdone, and the only gluten-free bread available was toasted hamburger bun. The ambiance was lovely and the wait staff attentive. It took a very long time to get our breakfast, especially since there was only one other party there.
We had a very nice time at the Inn. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We have always been satisfied with our time at the Epoch restaurant.
Every entree, appetizer, and dessert was delicious. Chef Dez is on point! Thank you to the whole staff. Looking forward to a repeat visit.
Amazing!!! What a great find! Service and food outstanding
My husband's fish dish was excellent. My stew was very fatty. My salad was heavily drenched in dressing.
So it was a 50/50 evening.
In the past both the dinner & service were very good. However this time nothing on the menu stood out, no specials and people next to us didn't seem overly happy with thier meals. Her salmon looked over done & his steak bathed in gravy not sure why. My double cut pork chop, was ok, but I'm not sure what double cut was about, no inner loin there. The Braised Lamb shank was good, but seemed to be missing something. There is a nice atmosphere and comfortable vibe, though the tables were to close for easy dining & several plates broken due to tightness of seating. We will stop back and try it again, before we recommend Epoch to friends, maybe just an off night for everyone.
Epoch Restaurant is always good and the menu changes seasonally. The 3-6 Happy Hour is also excellent!
Took my son out for a birthday lunch. The service and food was excellent. Pricey but worth it for special occasionbs?
We had the most unpleasant dinner. It wasn't the venue or the staff, those were just fine. The food was just terrible. We actually had to go get dinner somewhere else afterward. That could have been because we ordered from the Restaurant Week menu, which my husband pointed out that no one else in the restaurant was doing. The other tables were all ordering from the regular menu. Unfortunately, we will not be back to see if that was the problem.
The service was much better than other times, but the restaurant changed the menu and our food was disappointing. The steak was fatty and over cooked, and the pasta dish lacked flavor and was also over cooked. Not a good idea to put fresh onions on cooked pasta with roasted vegetables!
We really enjoyed our 3 nights there. All the personnel were genuinely friendly and interested in us. Loved the rooms. Great location for professional seminars.
