Epic Restaurant is a modern eatery with an unforgettable atmosphere. With a 23-foot-high ceiling, exposed brick walls and Edison-style lighting, it's a place where you can come with friends and stay awhile. Really impressed. Second visit to Epic. Wait staff was very attentive without being annoying. Ordered appetizers and entrees and they were brought to the table perfectly timed when one course was finish, the second was soon behind it. Will definitely be back again soon!
Visited Epic with some friends on Nov 14, 2015. I've been a there a number of times in the past (but its been over a year) and it was always vibrant and busy. I was shocked to see no one in the downstairs bar while we were waiting for the others to arrive. The upstairs dining was busier, but far from crowded. Staff was great and the service was attentive. When asked for a wine to pair with my dish, the server nailed it. Hope that they can survive the winter as Epic has one of the nicer rooftop patios.
My boyfriend and I chose to try Epic for our anniversary, and it ended up being a perfect spot. The food was really great and the drinks were on point (they have some really fresh cocktails to choose from). We received special anniversary menus signed by the chef, and complimentary champagne, as well. This helped start our night off in a romantic and special way. Thanks to the staff who paid attention to detail in both their presentation and our special day. Loved it!
We secured a reservation on fairly short notice at Epic. We ordered the duo of tartare, which was excellent, as an appetizer. I ordered scallops, which were cooked very well, and my wife ordered a piece of very "meaty" fish that she enjoyed a lot. My drink, an Old Fashioned, was a bit stiff, but who is complaining. Service was a bit slow, but our waitress was very nice. All in all, we had a very good experience at Epic.
Wow another mind-blowing meal with exceptional service! Epic will never let you down when it comes to creating an experience for all the senses the food was amazing I will definitely be back. They went above and beyond to make my brother's birthday memorable, a big Thank You to the whole Epic team.
The risotto had just the right creaminess and the goat cheese cubes added at the end made the taste not disappear into the dish. I had the diver scallops and my husband the wild boar papparadelle. Both are outstanding. The wild boar dish required a robust red to stand up to the dish.
We had a delicious and lovely Friday night dinner here in mid-October. We started with cocktails--they have some delicious offerings on their menu. Standard manhattan and a specialty drink with whiskey and ginger were both delicious. Nice selection of appetizers and a good variety of entrees to chose from. What I really appreciated was that we were in no hurry, and they didn't rush us through dinner. We had ample time to enjoy our appetizer and drinks before our meal.
The wall of windows and high ceilings give the room a dramatic feel, but it's still eminently comfy and cozy for a romantic dinner.
An excellent variety on the menu. The steak and the raviolis were incredible. The sea bass and duck were also very good. The only down side was the service. Our waiter seemed like he didn't like his job. When asked about a few dishes his basic answer was "I don't eat that but customers seem to like it.".
We arrived and requested to eat at the bar. The bartender was horrible. We had to wait 10 minutes to be acknowledged. He was clearly not the "regular" bartender and appeared to be overwhelmed with a poor attitude as well. The place was not busy, however, what we assume to be one of the managing staff, had to assist to get the drinks out. In all fairness to the restaurant, we did not eat so we cannot comment on the food I had (I had to select something on food to submit my review.) The bar service was so poor we decided not to take a chance on dinner and left after one drink.
I chose to write this review after a month to test my memory. I remember being so unimpressed with this place, and yet, they did absolutely nothing wrong. I can't remember what I had, what my wife had, the ambiance, nothing. The owners should change the name from Epic to Restaurant. A real snoozer, you have been warned.
We started with a crab cake. I assumed that they would execute seafood well because their menu is loaded with items such as fresh oysters and seafood entrees. It was a $16 appetizer so I had high expectations. Well, there was VERY LITTLE crab and mostly fillers. Additionally, it was served cold in the middle. I have had a better crab cake out of a grocery freezer.
For my entree, I had roasted trout. It came on a bed of sauteed green beans. The green beans were cooked with chunks of tough ham or some type of pork. Not a good combination with the fish. The green beans were large, overgrown, tough and waxy.
The location and atmosphere is all that is going for this place. If I were to return, I would go for drinks and a shared plate in the bar. On our way out, there were at least 4-5 bouncers at the door. This place likely turns into more of a club scene as it gets late. One of the guys was speaking to another with a lot of obscenities...For a place that will set you back $60-75 bucks per person, it was a "Epic" let down.
Restaurant contacted me twice to confirm reservation only to arrive to an empty dining area. Literally, on a Friday evening, there were only 3 other parties! When we shared with the server that one of our guests was celebrating her birthday, he simply ignored our comment and never wished our friend happy birthday! Lastly, as I frequented this spot ~3 years ago, I asked if they still served the sea bass entree. Instead of simply saying "no", he stated all we have is printed on the menu. The only good thing about the evening is that the birthday girl LOVED her scallops!
The blond hostess dressed in black at the door was rude. I'm not sure if she was extremely soft spoken or was barely saying anything. However, in a noisy place i was impossible to hear her. With that being said, the hostess should have spoken up and properly greeted us, but instead she stared and did no such thing. I suppose she feels as though she is standing there to model, not to professionally engage with the customers smh. The other staff members including the waiter were not very friendly, rarely ever smiled, and seemed a bit pretentious. The food was mediocre at best. I will not be returning. Wish I could've experienced what all the hype was about, perhaps if I would've gone on the rooftop it would have been a bit more enjoyable.
Took the missus here for an weekend dinner during the Chicago Air Show and we were not disappointed. We started off with the shellfish tower (half) it included clams, oysters, lobster, crab and shrimp on a bed of ice. A good start, nice portion and all very fresh. For dinner my wife had the sole and I had the scallops. Both dishes were excellent. Service was also top notch. We were there early in the evening and there was a wedding reception going on so noise we experienced was likely atypical (not too loud though). The waiter indicated the party was going on ahead of time. Overall a nice time was had and one I would recommend
I took a first time client to Epic for an early dinner. We had great service and nice ambiance. She had the pork chop and stated it was the best she had EVER had. I love to try beet salads and Epics was spot on with flavor, color and presentation. I would go back in a second.
Chef Marquis's creativity and culinary skills could be tasted in every bite! Although difficult to choose, the crab cakes were my personal favorite. The avocado and mango provide a nice summer touch to the dish. Order the tartar and octopus, it was amazing and prepared perfectly.
I went here with a friend. We were promptly seated. Our server was very informative and friendly. The menu was great. We had the "Half" Raw Bar Tower. Everything was fresh. We ordered Scallops and Salmon as our entrees. We also ordered a side of the truffle Mac-n-Cheese. Everything was delicious. I ordered the "stray cat" cocktail and it was very refreshing for a hot summer night.
This River North hot spot has been on the bar scene for a while. I had never considered going until just before a line started forming. The service was amazing, the restaurant vibe is both hip and romantic, and the food was OUTSTANDING. As a place I would usually frequent for happy hour or a late night drink, I am thrilled that it turned out to be such a chic and fun dining experience.
Our large party of 10 had a great meal at Epic. Food was terrific, ambiance conversation friendly, a harried if patient waiter served us reasonably well. Until the bill--they refused to divide the bill by 5 and it took some doing to get the bill fairly paid by all. If Epic is going to market itself as group friendly, is dividing by 5 all that much more difficult than dividing by 4? Really?
I did some research online prior to making a reservation at Epic. Was looking for a restaurant that was gluten friendly with outdoor seating for a client lunch. Multiple hits online said Epic could be gluten friendly. The wait person didn't seem to quite understand that we wanted him to tell us the gluten friendly options, but he went to ask for help. He came back with one option- the Chicken Caesar WRAP. I said, are you sure the "wrap" is gluten free, he said yes. Then I asked if he was sure there is only ONE option? He said yes. The "chicken caesar wrap" came out as a salad (no wrap). It happened to be a BEAUTIFUL day- the roof top was a fantastic spot to have lunch, but I'm very disappointed that we were told only ONE gluten free menu option and that the waitperson didn't clarify it would come out as a salad, not a wrap. Also, another customer at the lunch ordered the tacos- the waiter said it came with fries when we placed our order, but then it didn't come with fries when we received our food. I'm guessing our waiter might have been new.... service was polite, friendly, prompt.... but a few big glitches. I would recommend Epic for the great outdoor rooftop, but am not thrilled about my overall experience.
Sent my wife and her Besties for her 40th Birthday. Service was fantastic as was every dish. The chef sent a personalized menu with a birthday wish. I prepaid the bill and that worked flawlessly. The experience couldn't have been better. Great food, service, and personal attention.
By scheduling our dinner, and notifying them we were celebrating my wife's birthday, the staff was very gracious. Presenting her with a personalized, signed menu and sparklers at dessert were nice. But our waitress was not typical of a $$$ experience. Forgetting one of our side dishes as well as forcing it on us when we declined it as it came out after our entree was eaten. Also, the personalized menu was in a leather holder, and chasing us down as we left the restaurant with it was embarrassing. No one offered to wrap it up before. Not the experience we hoped for.
I will never return and advise that you avoid this "epic"acally bad spot at all costs.
Took a group of 10 there for dinner. Despite the fact that the restaurant literally had no other table, and there were at least 22 workers miling about, dinner took 3.5 hours.
The $36 new York steak was so mealy and overcooked it was inedible. The " cheese plate " literally looked like someone just opened some packets of pre-sliced processes cheese and threw them on a plate. Salads? Forgotten.
The server appeared to have been trained at MacDonald's (I am being generous) and the entire staff looked dazed and confused.
A $1000 meal that someone should have compensated us for the torture of this shabby place.
Horrible, slow service. Inedible "food". Zero atmosphere. Seriously, don't go to this epic flop - you have been warned.
So, we got sited at 8.45 pm and by 9.30 pm we still did not get our food. Couple who came after us, got their food earlier and strangely enough same dish we actually ordered, obviously they had a different waitress.
On top of everything the manager gave us attitude and said drinks on her, really ok..btw had to wait for those two drinks too, like 20 minutes. It is not about the money, thanks.. But maybe just be a little bit more pleasant when you as a manager have one waiters that is obviously overwhelmed with all her tables, no need to show your arrogance. Very very unpleasant experience.
Next place we went to cafe de architect at the Sofitel hotel. The service was perfection and the food was delicious.
