Epic Restaurant - Fairmont Royal York Ratings and Reviews
Expensive for mediocre food and ambience. Went to Epic with a group of friends on a Thursday night. Food was decent but not outstanding. One of our group was vegan, and the chef created a customised risotto which was a little bland but otherwise ok. The restaurant was only half-full while we were there but the service was surprisingly inconsistent - our waiter was helpful when we had access to him but we did have to actively flag him down a couple of times. Overall, an ok but not inspiring evening was capped off with a bill that would not have been out of place at a Michelin restaurant. I'm willing to pay for great service and food, and was anticipating a steeper bill than usual because it caters mainly to hotel clientele, but $70+ for a bland green risotto and a single drink seemed a little excessive, given how many better places are all around. Won't be back again.
We had a brunch with 6 people to celebrate our daughter's university graduation. Admittedly, it is a lot harder to show off a restaurant's cuisine at a brunch. Our food was good (my husband and I had the steak), but it was not overly creative or dazzling. It also took 50 minutes from being seated to being served, which we thought was a tad long. The location in the historical Fairmont Royal York Hotel is nice for photo taking, but the actual restaurant is decorated in a transitional style.
I had lunch with my friend from Japan.
I enjoyed "Quick Fire Grilled Tuna & Atlantic Salmon".
This dish was incredible!!
This was like Japanese "Tataki", but original taste.
Soy sauce dressing and crispy garlic!
It was sooooo delicious!
As a Japanese, I can say this is one of a kind that many Japanese love.
THE WORST THANKSGIVING EXPERIENCE EVER‼‼
Me and my bestie had thanksgiving dinner @ epic restaurant. We were so excited about this place coz it's inside the 5 star Royal York Hotel. For a set dinner priced at $89 - more expensive than any other Thanksgiving set dinner offered in most restaurants in toronto - you would no doubt expect to receive a dining experience more superior than at any other places. However I can bluntly tell you the experience we had tonight was way worse than even eating at a fast food restaurant
After we get seated and provided water, I told the waiter we are ready to order and all of us are starving. he has disappeared for more than 20 mins, during the time we tried to wave to him. But got totally ignored.
One of my friends ordered a glass of rose wine, she asked twice and finally got it when we having the main course. When the waiter was taking away the dessert plate and cleaning the table, I asked him to bring the bill, by that time we were the only table in our area, 15 mins past, no one brings any bill, so we have to wave to him again and got ignored again. Another 10 mins past, my friend shout to the waiter "excuse me, bill please".
And we finally got our bill.
The food was ok.
The service is really horrible, the Worst on the planet !
Will Never Ever go back again and surely will NOT recommend it to any of my friend.
We thoroughly enjoyed our special meal at Epic. We were welcomed graciously and attended to by our wait staff.
The food was exquisite and we really enjoued the local offerings.
We requested a special table through our Open Table reservation and were very delighted with what we were offered.
An absolutely perfect meal for our special celebration! Thank you!!!!
The food and service and ambiance were all fantastic, but something puzzled me. It's a situation I have never experienced in a restaurant before; the hostess seemed very reluctant to get the check to our table when we were finished! No waiter was coming anywhere near us, and even after I went to the desk to ask for the check we waited and waited and waited. In the end I had to go to the desk again and paid the bill there. If guests are required to pay at the reception desk, perhaps we should be told in advance. Other than this, all the staff were very kind and accommodating. Thanks.
We were served by George who delivered amazing service I don't think I've ever had such excellent service before. He was engaging and thoughtful always made sure we had everything we needed. He provided a bit of wisdom as well which was welcomed. I will only sit in George's section the next time I visit Epic.
Another excellent dinner. Mains were cod and the second was scallops with pork belly. All the seafood was perfectly cooked and very moist. They consistently cook seafood perfectly. The cod came in a light onion broth plus fiddle heads. Beautiful flavour. The other dish is a combo you that would not normally jump to mind. However the combo was awesome. Both are rich with deep flavours. The sommelier made a great wine recommendation. Service was excellent throughout. A delightful meal.
Overall, the experience was 10/10. Intuitive service, great ambience, handcrafted cocktails, extensive wine list, and delicious food. You are taken care of from the moment you walk in the door. This restaurant is definitely underrated, as it can compete with the top restaurants in the city with its local, upscale menu and top-level service.
As a family, we often have meals at the Epic and love it. We are always treated with care and respect and our son who has a disability is always accommodated. Joseph is amazing and the servers who attend to us pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable. Food requirements are always accommodated and we leave feeling well fed and having loved the experience. We will be back to celebrate in the near future.
My experience at Epic was just that, epic! I decided to treat myself and it was delightful. Upon arrival the service was excellent. I really enjoyed the sample for cleansing the palette. I ordered the offered meal. I had the dandelion and pea salad. Yummy. I had the cod which was delightful. I absolutely loved the Sorbet dessert. I did find it a bit costly, but the dinner and ambiance was worth it. I will definitely come back for a repeat experience.
I ordered an egg over easy. It came cooked right through. The toast was not what I ordered and was stone cold. The server should have seen that I didn't have the toast and that the butter was not melted but didn't say a word. I had a guest - I didn't say a thing either.
