My wife and I have eaten here several times and have always enjoyed our meals. There have always been interesting specials with exotic flavors. I am not an expert in Turkish cuisine but what we have eaten has been wonderful. Highly recommended.
Our meal was excellent.
I had never met a cup of Turkish coffee I didn't like, but Troy Mezze Lounge rectified that for me. Not only was it singularly the worst Turkish coffee I had ever tasted in my entire life (once they actually got around to bringing it out, which took 30 minutes after I ordered it despite there being only one other occupied table in the place while I was there), Troy Mezze also holds the unique distinction of being the first time I have ever been served lamb and didn't enjoy it. Ever. The "lamb clay pot" was minuscule in portion, the lamb was overcooked to the point of being unrecognizable as lamb (the six tiny bits provided), and the "vegetables and spices" were overcooked zucchini, onion, and canned tomato sauce. I have had better, and frankly more authentic, Turkish food in airports than I had at this place. If you find yourself in downtown Raleigh hankering for Turkish food, take the extra time to drive to Bosphorus over in Cary and spare yourself the agony of Troy Mezze.
Friday night, two big reservations and they only had one server working!! She did the best that she could to keep up with everything and everybody. Need to hire more help! The food was good, but we had to wait a long time for food and drinks since the waitress was taking care of all the customers in the restaurant.
This is one of our favorites in downtown. Right in the middle of the market area, great food, friendly service. I'm amazed its not busier given how good it is!
Did not enjoy this at all.
Because it was Mother's Day, the dinner menu was used, as opposed to lunch. P...l and I ordered the same thing, a salad with chicken. It was tiny, And it had iceberg lettuce rather than the advertised Romaine. The cost was $12. Powell questioned the size, as well as the price, and everyone, Including the server, agreed. The children complained about their chicken, because it was frozen. There was found me one person serving the entire restaurant; consequently, the service was lousy, but it was not the fault of the of the server. The beverages did not come for 15 minutes after they were ordered. W... and P...l were really quite disappointed, since they wanted a Mother's Day lunch to be special.., I would give that restaurant an F minus.
This was a perfect location after going to see a movie at the downtown IMAX theater. I was surprised it wasn't crowded in a Saturday night. The food was great and the service very good. We got there before our reservation, but they were already ready for us. The menus is great with just enough unusual items to peak everyone's interest.
The food here is just average. There is nothing special about this restaurant.
A bit unusual in taste compared to other Turkish resturants I've been to.
This is a great little restaurant in the City Market area of Raleigh. The food is excellent, and the portions are huge. Best of all, the ambiance is quiet and laid back. The night we visited, though, our wait person was obviously a trainee and tended to hover. There was also some problem with the liquor license that prevented us from purchasing wine at the restaurant or drinking the bottle we brought with us. I trust these issues will be addressed in the near future, and I look forward to many more visits to Troy Mezze.
Nice find in market area of Raleigh. Great food, nice wine list, friendly service from people that makes you feel like they're the owners.
Poor service due to lack of staff. Why one waitress & a trainee and no bartender/hostess on a Friday night during restaurant week? The food was mediocre at best. The "hand made" ice cream was scooped from a carton, clearly purchased. The shrimp hot pot was lacking flavor. The ambiance was sad. Just Not impressed.
We found this restaurant on open table and were very pleased with the area the restaurant the food and the service!
I'm not sure why I haven't ventured into City Market in forever but this trip changed that. Troy Mezze was delicious. I have already recommended to all my friends. I had the clay pot chicken which has wonderful crunchy veggies that are all organic. We had the pan seared shrimp with apricot sauce as an appetizer and that was amazing. The chocolate mousse dessert was addicting. I will definitely return here many times. It is reasonably priced and the portions are good. They have a lot of choices and even pizza and cheeses sticks if you don't want to experiment with Turkish cuisine although I recommend trying at least one thing. Enjoy!
Quiet romantic table for 2. Three piece band started. Before that standards like Sinatra were playing. Sampler platter is awesome. Chicken kabobs really good too! Great service, outdoor dining available.
Food & beer very good. Inside a little dark & gloomy. Limited seating outside .
Great food that is fresh and authentic mediterranean.
We had a brand new waitress who was clueless. It was the Satuday of St Patricks celebrations and the restaurant was very nosy. Lichen was slow. Food can out in bits and pieces. Food was average. The pizzas not exciting at all, dry, plain.
nice to find a great restaurant open on sunday. best babaganoush ever.
We have been to Troy Mezze twice. It is a small and very friendly restaurant with marvelous food. Our Turkish friends have reassured us of its authenticity. The apricot/walut shrimp appetizer is spectacular. The sigara appetizer is yummy. I had salmon baked with a pomegranate sauce that was as unusual as it was delicious. My wife had the lamb kabobs which she thoroughly enjoyed. Do not miss the baklava. There is nothing fancy or pretentious about this restaurant. Just excellent food well prepared in a friendly and homey atmosphere.
Found this place from a living social deal. It's on the small side, which makes it more quaint and intimate than other similar restaurants in the area. I especially liked siting in the window and people watching on city market. Service was excellent, food was very good - I'd recommend the mezzes over the pizzas. The sampler was a good way to try a little of everything. Lots of veg options. Enjoyed it, will be back!
We had a great dinner here on a Saturday night. The service was impeccable! After dinner we strolled around the corner to a piano bar. Great food, great location and great staff!!! We will definitely return!
Nice local restaurant in one of downtown Raleigh's prettiest neighborhoods. Good food, though this was my first experience with Turkish fare, but much like other Middle Eastern cuisine with slight variation. I typically won't eat hummus, but theirs was really good. Excellent service and very nice atmosphere. Could go either way.... kid friendly or romantic, really nice. Definitely will recommend to friends.
Stumbled on this restaurant when we discovered our reservation at another local restaurant was for the wrong day. It was a lucky mistake. Everyone in our party cleaned their plates. From the cold appetizer plate to the clay pots, lamb chops or eggplant everything was excellent. Dessert was not to be missed- Troy Chocolate Krem. Be sure you share it - it's sinfully rich. I will definitely be back
We had a fabulous brunch/lunch on 4/21/13. The food, service and ambiance were outstanding! We are definitely returning very soon!
We enjoyed the food very much...
We've been to Troy Mezze many times and have had consistently enjoyable experiences. The food is reasonably priced and every dish we've ordered has been excellent. Very casual, relaxed, and laid back. Great atmosphere for private, intimate conversation. Staff warm and accommodating.
While the service was excellent (there was only one other table occupied, and when we were almost through a lone man came in to sit at the bar), the food was disappointing. I'm comparing it to a true local gem, Neomonde, and food we've eaten in the Middle East. The dolmathes were excellent, but the tabouli and hummus were not even close to that standard. I am not happy to give this new restaurant just a "fair" rating because they're trying so hard, but I must be honest about our experience.
The food at Troy Mezza is always better than expected. Although not food I would eat every day, it is unique and a great break from the "standard fare". The wine list is good and has a great mix of affordable wines. The friends we dined with had never been to Mezza before and were a bit apprehensive at first but both really enjoyed both the food and the ambiance.
Troy is a pleasant place for a quiet meal and its food offerings are pleasant; in a town with fewer strong ethnic offerings, it might be a real attraction. However, the flavoring of the dishes was mild, likely adjusted for southern American tastes but not pronounced enough for me. The prices are a little high for what one gets. For this style of eastern Mediterranean food, Tallulah's in Chapel Hill is a better choice, and the Lebanese fare of Sitti in downtown Raleigh is far superior for the pricing. The mezzes (small plates) were well designed in concept, and a couple of good sampling platters are on the menu for folks to try out. Service was very attentive - but I virtually had the restaurant to myself, so it's hard to judge.
Awesome food and awesome service. If you like Mediterranean food, you have to try this place
This was our first visit, but it won't be our last. The waiter was very helpful and the food was really good.
Our server Keith was excellent. The appetizer was huge, delicious, and filling. We will go back.
We had been wanting to try it since we heard about it and it was great. Service was very good and food was great. We'll go back.
Delicious Turkish food at reasonable prices. Located in a nice market square.
We celebrated my mom's birthday dinner with exceptional service, great food and wonderful atmosphere. Definitely recommend this place and we'll be coming back for more.
Overall, very good. The appetizer sampler was really good and a nice introduction to some of the special tastes of Turkish food. The two of us who ordered the clay pots, however, were a little disappointed -- they were good, one lamb and the other chicken, but just not as bountiful or flavorful as we hoped. Other dishes ordered, however, were better -- such as the sliced beef entree. The baklava dessert was very tasty. Waitress provided excellent service and made suggestions on menu items. We would go back.
Troy Mezze was a great find. Small and quiet(at least early on a Friday night), a neighborhoood feel in the heart of downtown. Service was personal, welcoming and attentive. A plentiful and varied menu of Turkish/Mediterranean. The mixed grill was excellent and the Baklava Gelato was to die for. Now on our list of local favorites.
Our 2nd visit to Troy Mezze. Warm, casual, friendly atmosphere and accommodating staff. Reasonably priced and varied menu w something for everyone's tastes. Food is excellent and nicely prepared.
