Eggplant Caponata & Crispy Kale Salad best appetizers. All the pastas are excellent.
The menu was imaginative and you could tell there was great thought and research put into it to bring Sicilian cuisine, which is very under-represented in this city, to the public. But the execution was not the best. The beat appetizer was rather bland and the beets were very cold, obviously having just come from the refrigerator, but the homemade ricotta was excellent. I went there specifically to try "pasta alle sarde" and although the flavor was good, the bucatini were seriously overcooked. Being an Italian, this is a sin I cannot forgive - and being an Italian restaurant this is a weakness that should not be tolerated. However, the atmosphere and service were very pleasant.
Chris, the maitre d' was very attentive, helped us pick a great bottle of wine...the pastas were excellent, appetizers great...steak was perfectly cooked which is many times not the case
Viva Sicilian The Pasta was sublime What a treat Eolo go back again and again
The food was great, but the restaurant was noisy making it difficult to have a conversation.
The service was poor.
Not really authentic sicilian food. Too sofistcated. Overpriced.
My mother is Sicilian and she's been dying to come here. Finally brought her once she came into the city, along with my father and uncle. They all loved it, our waiter was great and knowledgeable, and the food & wine were exactly what we wanted.
We all had Croque Monsieurs, the best I have ever had served with excellent FFs & green salad & accompanied by Bloody Marys. Three brunch drinks were offered at 1/2 price for the 2nd drink- a good value. Bloody Marys were $5.00 for the first and $2.50 for each additional one. Good coffee, too.
Previous dinners were enjoyable; this was my first lunch there: tasty menu; attentive service; extensive bar options.
Every time we have dined Bar Eolo we have been impressed with the ever changing specials, the textures the bold flavors and the relaxing atmosphere, even during restaurant week. So glad we live so close.
We started with 4 tapas-all very good. Then shared Fried Kale salad. Entrée Pastas of Black Tagliatelle with shrimp, a special and Lemon Tagliatelle with lobster were surprisingly flavorful.
We loved our dinner as well as the unusual Sicilian-focused wine list. Service was very friendly, but a little off their game: we got the wrong appetizers...then the right appetizers...then had a lengthy wait for our entrees (which was ok, since we had to digest two rounds of appetizers!). Overall, food and friendliness won us over: we would ABSOLUTELY return.
This is a laidback spot in Chelsea with solid Italian fare and good service. It has a very nice feel and ambience. The prosciutto panini and meatballs were especially good.
Creative incredible Italian food at a reasonable price. What a find!
We always look forward to the newest specials form Bar Eolo. Aside from choosing regular menu items that are always outstanding, we enjoy to sampling the next latest specials menu and savoring every bite.
No matter how many times I have gone here each one surpasses the others. The flavors are extraordinary, the presentations are terrific and the faithfulness to the Sicilian heritage is incredible. I love it here and recommend it highly.
We have been dining at Bar Eolo for some time now and we have never had anything but good experiences. Wednesday night's dinner was amazing. Chef Melissa & Chef Mario created and presented the most beautiful, delicious dishes I can remember eating. Services, surroundings and atmosphere make us feel welcome and we thoroughly enjoy every time we eat there.
My boyfriend and I were excited to get lunch here for restaurant week. After arriving, we were slightly hesitant to go in when we saw the B rating in the window and noticed only one group of people sitting inside (there were people sitting outside). We decided to take a chance since the menu caught our eye. I most likely would not return to this restaurant for a few reasons: 1- the service was slow. I don't fully understand the wait time given that there were 2 staff and about 6 tables of people. 2- the food was bland. I was surprised by the lack of flavor given the kind of cuisine. 3- I'm not entirely sure about the cleanliness of the restaurant. Bread crumbs were on the plate where we were seated.
Went for Restaurant Week. Food was excellent and wait staff extremely helpful. Will definitely return.
Dined here with a friend for Restaurant Week. Ate outdoors on a lovely summer night. Food was delicious and a lot to choose from, but portions a little small -- maybe due to Rest Wk specials? Wines pretty expensive. Am planning to try for lunch before weather gets too cold for outdoor table.
Service was excellent - attentive without being obtrusive, and the waiter appeared to actually be Sicilian, so very knowledgeable about the dishes.
