Enterprise Fish Co. - Santa Barbara
Built in 1917, the historic building now home to our Santa Monica restaurant was once a transfer station for the narrow-gauge Red Car line, Los Angeles' first mass transit system. It was later the repair house for the world-famous Pacific Ocean Park, home to the oldest wooden roller coaster west of the Mississippi. These days, we're still a stone's throw from Venice Beach, heart of where L.A. goes to play -- and eat.
Friday - Saturday 11:30am-11pm
Very good meal
They didn’t pickup it was an Anniversary
Very disappointed! Food was cold except for the salmon. We had to ask for bread. We had eaten here a couple of years ago and the food was good. We detect a deterioration in the quality of the food for sure!!
Had 815 pm reservation for 8, arrived at 730 and seated right way!
Birthday and Graduation
We were tourists to Santa Barbara and celebrating an anniversary. My brother-in-law, a commercial fisherman, said that the fish menu offerings were extensive and excellent. He also said the price was moderate. He was right! I had the swordfish which was excellent. My husband had the Ahi--cooked to perfection (almost red in the middle--so not overdone!). We'll make the restaurant a family stop on our next trip to Santa Barbara.
I made reservations several days prior. It was this past Sunday evening and the restaurant was not exceptionally busy. The host proceeded to try to set us at the end of s one table in the main traffic area in a very tightly seated area backed up on both sids by other customers. I pointed out an area in the front that had several open tables for couples and asked if we could sit there. The host asked a manager about. He returned and said we had to sit in this area. I wanted to leave my wife wanted the lobster. We settled for seats on the opposite end and out of the traffic lane. While eating the host proceeded to seat two couples at the tables I requested. Not sure why the manager was so uncaring and unconcerned about customer satisfaction that he would do such a thing. Following dinner, which is always good there, the host apologized on our way out but was unable to provide an explanation as to why we were discriminated against.
I’ve been eating at the Enterprise on special occasions for nearly 20 years. This will be my last visit. Unbelievable!
Excellent seafood. The lobster bisque is everything the reviews have said and then some. Don’t miss it! I had the cup without the puffed pastry and it was more than ample. The jambalaya is excellent. Perfectly spiced. Grilled swordfish was excellent. We went for a late lunch (about 3:00) and the place was close to empty so it was quiet. Service was very good.
I asked for shellfish and it was brought over cooked and therefore you had to keep chewing it too long. I frankly would not recommend it
We vacation in Santa Barbara at least twice a year -- and we make a point of always visiting Enterprise -- fresh fish, fast service, efficient staff. It is exactly what you would expect. . .a fish restaurant close to the ocean -- Busy, but worth a half hour wait. (Of course, we don't have to wait because we're smart enough to make reservations!), but a lot of tourists wait just at the front door. Chowder is especially good, as are the salads (really good!). I had the kale, pomegranate, grilled chicken salad and it was FANTASTIC! Hubby had the Cioppino and he said it was DELICIOUS (hot, tomato-y, lots of seafood). We'll be back.
Was able to get a reservation last minute on a Saturday night of a holiday weekend. Food was outstanding. Wine list is impressive. Despite how crowded it was, the service was great and we felt taken care of. Definitely try the Hawaiian Poke with the Chef's personal twist to it!
Great place in a nice town
Good place, decor is a bit industrial, but the food is good and service well staffed
My Prosciutto & Scallops we’re phenomenal tasting, creamy, hot and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, my wife’s BC Salmon was over-cooked, Cola sauce was bland and even the potato was partially under-cooked. Rather disappointed in the range from the kitchen, we usually thoroughly enjoy the restaurant.
We go for the Salmon. Best fresh Salmon in town.
Just wish that we could use our vouchers at Enterprise Fish!
Also not happy with OpenTable because we don't always get prompt acknowledgement that we earned our credits for having a meal that was reserved online through OpenTable.
Our usual good experience at the Enterprise did not occur this time. Although we made reservations, we had to wait when we arrived although the restaurant was fairly empty, and then were placed at a table in the far corner of the bar. Service was spotty - she disappeared a lot of the time, possibly because she was also handling tables in the dining room. Being in the corner, we waited many times for her to reappear to tell her something was wrong with our order or that something was needed. This happened multiple times. The bread basket & butter did not contain enough for our party of 5 -- she promised to bring another one when the bread come out of the oven, but that never happened. No refills were ever offered or provided. Overall, it was not what we expected from past experiences, including our visit the week before to the sister restaurant in Santa Monica.
This restaurant is special to us as our first night out in Santa Barbara. We return again and again to this charming spot and love the food. We love the clam chowder, lots of clams and just right not to thick or watery. The hot wood fire grill provides entertainment to watch as they prepare our fish and the potatos romano are a must have. Deserts are great same for the drinks. We have been seated in every area from windows, bar and center dining. This was the first time we sat in the back area which is more quiet and easier to talk. All in all a great experience and our favorite in SB. Service has always been excellent which is an accomplishment for the management as they must be on top of the operation to sustain the quality and service we continue to receive.
Service was so bad it was hard to focus on anything else. Food portions were small and expensive. Getting the bill took forever.
Mother’s Day lunch
We went for Mother's Day lunch and we were seated at our reservation time. Moms were given a rose, which was a nice touch. Service was just okay, our server seemed very busy and we had to ask for refills. Our food took awhile but server brought out the appetizers and kids meals quickly. The kids meal is a good deal. I thought the lobster bisque was just so-so. I wasn't that impressed. They add tip for over 6 people. The restaurant is easy to get to if you take the train!
The food is always fantastic..good portions and included sides. The service is usually great, but our server this weekend was extraordinary. This place never disappoints!!
We stopped for dinner before the Brad Paisley concert. The food was exceptional, the service was great and it was just an overall awesome start to our night. Thank you for the happy memories!!!
Good place to have a casual meal on a date or in a group. I like that you have a visual of the cooks cooking the food on the grill. Seems to be well staffed for quick service.
We booked through Open Table and our requested table was ready exactly on time. Our server was excellent and was always available when we needed her. She checked back often to make sure everything was fine. The seafood is always good at the Enterprise. The only negative is that because of the hard surfaces of the floor, ceilings and walls, and because it always seems to be filled to capacity, the sound level can be a bit of a challenge to having a conversation. The ambience is so great though and the Enterprise is truly an iconic restaurant in a historic building in Santa Barbara.
If your looking for fish to eat, this is a Santa Barbara must. We have been coming here for years. I had the fish and chips and a cup of clam chowder. Both were excellent with ample fish for two. If I was hungrier I would have had the lobster. They are currently running a special.
The food was decent - the clam chowder was AMAZING though. This is not a good place to go if you have over 4 people and are splitting checks as they only will allow 4 sep credit cards. They also will not split checks per person so that you all have individual totals. Longest process ever and we had 6 people.
This was our third restaurant during our four day mini vacation for our 30th weeding anniversary. My wife and I liked this one the best for its food and quite dining.
Had a great birthday lunch. Our server, Katy, was outstanding.
Cold food. App arrived after salad. Seemed understaffed. Will try again because have had good time and good food in past. They actually made a cosmopolitan with grenadine because they couldn’t work the cranberry juice lever🤭
This was a last minute booking. We were just in town for 1 night on part of a West coast road trip. I love salmon and dispite eating it on the 3 previous night's I went for it again as it sounded amazing. And amazing doesn't begin to describe it. I loved it! So much so i didn't get salmon the next night as I can't see how this one could be bettered! Great portions. Great value. Place was lively. Will return if in town again.
second visit to this eatery. Excellent all around. Looking forward to stopping in again when passing through or for overnight stay.
Food is great, cool atmosphere and kid friendly.
Good provisions for people on gluten free diets.
Food exceeded our expectations! Ordered the seafood skewers blackened. Amazingly fresh fish, grilled to perfection! Placed on Delicious corn relish! Loved watching the kitchen work their magic! Excellent service!
$1 oyster Wednesday, fabulous cocktails, excellent entrees. Glad I made a Rez with Open Table - no wait and a window table over looking State St. One of our favorite Santa Barbara restaurants. over the last 20 years it has remained a staple for us and never fails to deliver a wonderful dining experience.
Casual nautical restaurant in great location. Salmon was delicious.
