Empire Ratings and Reviews
Empire is more of a scene than a restaurant, intentionally so, probably. It is large but nicely decorated, very dark, with thumping background of pop music and a club vibe. If you are looking for good Asian food, however, this is not the place to come. Dishes were pretty expensive and not very authentic or even well prepared. I would come back to go to the bar, but not for dinner.
We had a great experience. The cocktails were excellent. We even had a scorpion bowl and it was enormous :)
The duck dish and lo mein were excellent. The chicken Bao was outstanding.
Our server did great keeping up with us.
Looking forward to our next visit!
After a friend referred us and reading the menu, we were looking forward to our meal. We ordered the Empire roll - which was amazing- but everything after that was just fair. We ordered two cocktails, two apps and two entrees and the bill with tip was $180. For $180, I'd like to be "wow-ed", and we just weren't. We ordered the steamed short rib buns which we oversauced and meh, the black cod which had more baby bok choy than anyone could reasonably eat, plus a bone in the fish, and the short rib entree which, while flavorful, was just okay. The meat was more like sliced steak than tender short rib. Our server and cocktails were great, and the ambiance was fun and upbeat. The food just didn't knock our socks off for what we spent.
Food was very good. Appetizers were the best and impacted our appreciation for dinner. We should have just had more appetizers. Portions were ample and all the food was tasty. Music was a bit loud, and it was difficult to have a conversation with a group of 6.
I had arranged a surprise birthday dinner for my wife and her friends. It turned out to be more than expected. The drinks, food and music were awesome. The staff was so courteous and attentive ins spite of restaurant being packed. They raved about it for a long time after they were done. I would recommend this as "the place" for a good time.
Food, cocktails and table service were very good for dinner. The ambience is very nice and the space is quite large. However, the manager on the lounge side was unaccommodating. There is $50 per person minimum to sit down in the lounge and despite having just had a $500 dinner for 8 on the other side of the restaurant we were told a new minimum would apply. The tables in the lounge remained unoccupied right up until we left at midnight, so no benefit to either party.
When we arrived I was really concerned about the very loud music and crowd. So it was a great surprise to get to the dining room, which was comfortable and where it was easy to have a conversation. A rare find!
The server was helpful and available without being intrusive.
The food was interesting and excellent, if a bit pricey.
We had a great time there, I will go back.
Just one thing puzzled me: our entrees were served on normal sized plates but there were large serving utensils on the plates. There was no other plate to serve to, just a normal entree with huge serving utensils stuck in it.....
We came early on a Sunday (and one other time as well) as we had tickets for an event at 7. Super fast service and excellent food. The place is enormous but is broken up into various rooms quite nicely to not feel so vast. Great service... AND gluten free menu is top notch.
Never take a large party here!!! I booked a reservation for 14 people for dinner and had people come from out of town for a moving away dinner. We had such a negative experience that we got up and left this restaurant and took our party elsewhere.
We grabbed some drinks at the bar and waited to be seated. Once we were seated the waitress said she needed to check our IDs- so we all gave our IDs. She then said that anyone from out of state needed to provide backup cards with your name on them. As the NYC crew in our group presented their IDs and backup the waitress decided to take their IDs to scan them. Again, no problem. One of our friends from NYC's ID wouldn't scan - a large red X came through which means that the card's scanning chip is broken. The manager came over and rudely and aggressively told him that the cannot serve him due to his ID not scanning. Our friend offered up 6 forms of backup ID with his name, and we even asked if he could run it through the local PD so that he could drink. Not only was the manager not willing to try to solve this problem with us, he also handled it in an extremely rude manner. Our group is all 28-34 years old and very easy going, so after realizing that he wasn't willing to try to find a solution we said okay fine, he wouldn't drink and we would stay enjoy our dinner. Then we ordered two large cocktails for the table, at which point the manager said he wouldn't serve those to our entire party due to the one ID not scanning. Again, the manner in which all of this was communicated by the manager was extremely rude and unapologetic. At this point we decided we wanted to spend our money somewhere where they actually wanted our business and where we weren't being spoken to in a rude and disrespectful manner. We walked down the street and went to a different restaurant and the food was amazing! They also made us several large cocktails and we had zero issues with our IDs scanning and we absolutely had an amazing experience!
