Chelsea's Iconic Empire Diner was built in 1946. With the reopening of this historical landmark, guests can enjoy signature Diner dishes and all-day menu items along with classics inspired by popular American dishes from around the country. Designed by Groundswell Design Group with a modern yet cozy space, keeping the diner's rich history in mind. Diner-style booths were installed in the classic "dining car" building and chrome details from the original diner were preserved throughout. Currently open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.

Upon arrival we were informed that they would be opening late because it was their last day and they had to go food shopping! We chose not to wait and went elsewhere. We later learned that the reason for closing was that they were $119,000 behind in rent. Later in the day we noticed that Open Table was still accepting reservations for this restaurant. Oops! Do I still get my points? My ratings are meaningless as I never set foot in te place.

Went for lunch. Food was mediocre diner quality. Patty melt was very greasy and a tiny patty for $15. Tacos were better but unexceptional. Service was friendly but slow.

I hadn't been to the Empire Diner in Chelsea in over 30 years, and it's just as great as I remember it when I was living in Manhattan and went there often. Their food isn't "diner" food, and their service isn't "diner" service. Don't hesitate - go!

We were staying in NYC for Thankgiving and needed a place to have our turkey dinner. Most places that took reservations had expensive (eg. $89pp) fixed menus that my kids frowned at. They don't want truffle stuffing, for example. These places are probably great for adults but would have been a huge waste of money for us. On the other hand, some diners we looked into weren't taking reservations. We found the Empire Diner in Chelsea which served (in addition to their full menu) a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for around $30. They have a fun, diner setting and we were able to explore the local "Highline" park while in the neighborhood. Everything was delicious and exactly as the kids expected.

It looks like a diner, but the food is so much above the standard diner fare. This is sophisticated cuisine in a friendly diner atmosphere.

My wife's omelette took 40 minutes to make it to the table, and my waffles were a bit undercooked. Given the advance hype, the food and service should have been better.
