Emmer & Rye
Emmer & Rye is a restaurant designed around the farmer’s haul, featuring a menu that changes daily with a focus on seasonal and local cuisine. Heirloom grains are milled fresh for house made pastas, breads, and desserts, whole animal butchery is done on site, and an extensive in house fermentation program captures flavors at their peak and preserves them for the off season.

This was the perfect restaurant for our anniversary date. From the service, to the food, and the overall experience! It was absolutely amazing, to try foods that I’ve never tried before and actually loved the taste!
The experience was fantastic, and the food & drink pairings were even better. Several dishes that our waiter recommended were ones we normally would not order, but after trying them, we will order them all again.
Every menu is perfectly crafted for the season.
I had an amazing time everything was perfect, from the drinks to the desserts!!
Had high expectations for the food. We did the tasting and felt like from dish to dish it felt inconsistent - we collectively agreed on most dishes (3 of us) and most we weren't wowed and mainly just like it was good but not amazing. The desserts were the most disappointing of the foods. We felt like overall Emmer & Rye tried too hard to be so different and unique it missed the mark for us. The wine pairing was a let down as well. It was too out there for the wine choices and was hoping for more symbiotic pairings with the food. My husband only received one red through the whole meal. The service started off great and then half way through the meal we didn't see much of our server. Also, had to wait on wine for our tasting. Based on our experience at another restaurant with a tasting menu/wine pairing, the service and wine was prompt. Had high expectations because this place is listed in multiple lists of best places to eat.
Overall pretty good but not quite up to expectations. The food was hit / miss on the tasting menu and the price didn’t match the experience. We paid $300 for 2 w tip.
Food is incredible, everything tasty, well presented and satisfying. The wine menu is excellent. The restaurant is very nice. Best experience in Austin ♥️
We sat at the bar and had a wonderful time. The bar staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and the cocktails.
This is hands down the best restaurant in Austin. Well done on every level.
The menu is always so thoughtful and the food delicious. Service was also wonderful. The staff here never disappoint!
No joke this was one of the most memorable dining experiences I have ever had. Highly recommend and go with the tasting w/ wine pairing
This our first time visiting Emmer & Rye and wow it did not disappoint. Their commitment to zero kitchen waste and innovative methods were inspiring. They are also seemingly dedicated to the health and safety of their workers and patrons- very important right now. The meal was amazing with each and every dish being better than the last though a shout out to the guanciale and this deconstructed flan/miso/chocolate dessert that blew my mind. Honestly though, the service was some of the best we've experienced. Alex, our server was genuinely excited to work there and was passionate about what the kitchen put out. His excitement and service made the dinner even more enjoyable. The tasting menu is priced so reasonably and you definitely come away pleased.
Had a memorable birthday celebration for my son with the chef’s tasting menu. It was delicious and with 2 teenage boys at the table they paced the meal perfectly (fast) and fed them both into submission. The courses ranged from very light and interesting to rich and deeply satisfying. We will be back!
Still one of the best restaurants in austin... complex flavors, abundance of unique veggies and a delightful informed staff. My go to for special occasions or to impress :)
We did the Chef's tasting. While the food was okay, the value for money wasn't there at all. We had a better meal the next morning for less than the tip of our meal Friday night.
Emmer and Rye tries real hard...at a lot of things but lacks focus. Focus in the main component of each course and flavor profiles.
We asked the server what type of cuisine were they going for because it seemed like each course was a tour of the world.
Too many flavors, too much sauce, not enough sauce, too much salt, and then one course was just down right terrible. The Thai meatballs which was one of the courses of our $300 meal tasted like straight up frozen meatballs slathered in shopping mall thai sauce. That bad.
The best course was dessert and it was excellent. The bread which they offered us for free after the initial $300 was terrible was really good as well.
Emmer and Rye needs to read the book "The One Thing" and then decide what their One thing is rather than trying to do 100 things and being less than mediocre at all of them (except for bread and dessert).
I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
It was a cold night, but the heaters helped. Service was great. Food such a treat. Love this place.
It was fantastic, the food is both creative and delicious!
My dining and party and ordered about 10 dishes to share. Every dish was thoughtfully curated to create the most wonderful tastes. The quality and creativity of the food was superb. The bill was definitely on the pricier side but it was entirely worth it. I will be dining here again.
Fantastic experience. The food was phenomenal, the menu was creative, the presentation was exceptional. Would come here again in a heartbeat.
This is the best restaurant we’ve been to in Austin! We were in shock the entire meal...everything was exceptional. A big bonus for us was that everything is farm to table and from Texas! And the fermented stuff...oh my! So yummy we made another reservation in the middle of dinner :)
Such an interesting experience. We left hungry and not sure what in the world just happened for the past two hours.
Thankful the Cocktails are strong, it was needed to Help pay that tab at the end.

Very innovative food, well prepared and delicious. Prices are high.
Absolutely fantastic meal all around. Great service and the food was off the charts great. Definitely recommend the snack bites. Entirely enjoyed the little surprises that graced us from the kitchen.
Also, smoking music selection.
Will be back!
Everything was perfect! We could not have asked for a better anniversary dinner.
Great food wine excellent service
The prefixe meal was amazing! Kinda pricey but tons of food and amazing wine pairings. Service was perfect and the staff was personable!
Amazing tasting menu- we loved it! So glad that our server suggested an orange wine to pair with it. Delicious!
Great service. The food is fantastic. Steak tartar was out of this world - wish I could eat it every day.
We were in Austin for a few days. This was our first time to Emmer and Rye. We were blown away with the whole experience It is now our number one favorite meal we have had.
Wonderful experience. They are culinary artists.. bringing the best creations out in mundane food. Even drinks are super, Loved it !
Every time , I visit Austin, I make sure I go to emer and rye. FOOD is so good here that you don’t want to miss it. Their menu keeps changing every season so you are always in for a surprise. They have good vegetarian options as well so fear not if you are looking for vegetarian friendly restaurant. Their plates were so beautiful and their service is fantastic. They constantly come by your table to check if everything is good with your food. If you don’t like something, they even give you another plate to substitute and don’t charge you for the food.
This place is hands down one of the best restaurants in Austin. Don’t miss out on the good food here.
Great suggestions by our server! 😋
Every dish on the tasting menu was amazing. Can't wait to go back!
Good food served with a unique style from folks that care about service. We enjoy coming.
We had the chefs tasting menu which I highly recommend! Delicious, fresh and so creative. A wonderful experience.
The service is always extraordinary. The menu is well thought out and executed with perfection. The Peche Mel on draft is heavenly.
The food and service were amazing!
Exceptional meal. Extremely creative and well executed. Best meal I have had in Austin.
Our server Alex was amazing! We decided to try the Chef’s tasting menu and it was excellent.
My friend has a few allergies including gluten, so we hesitated to go somewhere named for two types of wheat. We needn’t have worried. The hospitality surpassed my expectations by a mile. Every bite and sip was exceptional.
We sat at the bar, where Logan guided our selections throughout the evening. From marking up a menu to navigate my friend’s restrictions, to smart cocktail pairings for each course, to indulging my nerdy questions with enthusiasm, his service was focused and welcoming.
Standouts: wagyu tartare, broccoli, blue crab (small plates), black pearl mushrooms (main), “snacks”, all cocktails, bread amino dessert (I got two of these... I could’ve had ten). Truly a memorable meal. We reordered plates after one bite several times.
If you haven’t been to Emmer and Rye, drop what you’re doing and go. Tonight. Maybe tomorrow too.
