About Emilio's Tapas - Sol Y Nieve

You'll be tempted by the tapas at this Streeterville eatery, from the team behind Emilio's Tapas (other location is in Hillside). Our name means sun and snow, and we serve a wide range of hot and cold Spanish choices, including grilled shrimp with garlic lemon butter sauce, baked goat cheese in tomato sauce, paella, among other fabulous tapas. The wine list features more than 60 choices, many available by the glass. The restaurant features colorful murals, tile mosaics and iron light fixtures. During summer, the patio is the perfect place to relax and enjoy great tapas and sangria.

Generally good experience, but they need to let food rest before serving it. A couple dishes were WAY too hot. Bacon wrapped dates burned my date's mouth. Also got the order wrong, which is a bit frustrating. But it was resolved quickly. Food tastes great, though.

Very authentic Spanish food, delicious, fresh, beautifully prepared and presented. The calamari and shrimp were cooked just right and seasoned lightly, just to enhance their natural flavours. The potatoes dish, the chick pea dish (a delicious version of houmous) and the cured meat and cheese platter were all fabulous, but the baked goat cheese was the star. Would definitely recommend this place.

We went to Emilio's for our New Year Eve's dinner with friends and family. Our table was ready, service was outstanding (thanks!!), the food was really good and the waiter even helped us get some "custom" drinks made. We had a great time and for sure will go back there when visiting Chicago.

We always enjoy our visits to either the two restaurants, Hillside or Chicago. This time was Sol y Nieve in Chicago. The food is excellent, service and the ambiance are great. The only drawback are the prices, but its about the same everywhere else you go.
Excellent restaurant!

Food was fantastic. Service was horrible. Waiter never asked if we wanted more to drink. We asked for water 4 times, finally after the fifth time he came with a pitcher. We were done eating and every glass had been empty for 45 minutes.

Great food and wine, great service, what else to ask for for a restaurant. A little pricey but worth it. The place is next to parking area, if your driving to downtown Chicago.

We just happened upon this restaurant--very empty during a Saturday lunch. But the food was excellent, the sangria good, and the service fine. I will definitely go back.

The paella we ordered was really salty. We spoke with the manager, she had the chef try it and they said the measurements were standard....but sometimes this is just common sense. The skirt steak was very good and they did give us free desert. The service is just “ok.”

I wasn't very hungry, so tapas sounded really good. The main menu has bottle of wine on one side, and a wide variety of tapas on the other side. There was also a specials menu that they brought out that had glasses of wine and cocktails, plus a few cold and hot tapas, plus some main courses. I had a glass of wine with 2 tapas. The first was a cold tapa (Tabla de la Casa) with dried sausage, manchego cheese, serrano ham and olives. It was supposed to have dried pork tenderloin, but I don't recall that being on the tray. It was served with just a few pieces of toast points, but there was bread that was brought out before the tapas that I used when I ran out of toast. Everything was fresh and top quality. The other dish was a hot tapa (Alcachofas a la Nostaza), grilled artichoke hearts with sautéed spinach and honey mustard sauce. The presentation was really nice, as you might expect, and the taste was really good. You could taste the spinach and artichoke and the mustard sauce (everything was in balance). I was very tempted to order dessert, but didn't have room. Because I was dining alone and the restaurant wasn't busy, I had dinner and was out of there within 45 minutes. If you want a more relaxed pace, I would suggest ordering one dish at a time.

As usual, the food leaves little to be desired. Limited vegetarian options, however, provide area for improvement.

Very slow service!!!! The excuse was that they don’t like to “put too many plates on the table”! Give me a break! Told 2 waitresses that we were going to the theater and don’t have a lot of time. WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN! We will not be back! How about posting this one to pass the message along to other people? Come on...be honest with your reviews

Have been going to Emilio's for years. Service was horrible this last time. Waitress Maria completely dropped the ball. My wait was completely unacceptable before someone came to my table and took my order. I was made to feel like a real outcast.

The wait staff is so polite it makes you want to cry because it's so like Mexico, where people are treated with respect.

The food was excellent, and I enjoyed myself immensely. I came to Chicago for a pleasure trip and chose Emilio's because that is my grandson's name. Good choice!
